Final Fantasy XIV fans were treated to an exciting wave of news during Live Letter 89, where Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida revealed new details about Patch 7.4, titled “Into the Mist.” This update continues the story of Dawntrail with fresh main scenario quests, challenging battle content, and quality-of-life improvements that will shape the next chapter of the adventure. From new dungeons and raids to lifestyle updates and glamour additions, here’s everything revealed in the Live Letter that you need to know about Patch 7.4.

Patch 7.38 – Coming November 11, 2025

Before diving into 7.4, Yoshi-P and Foxclon announced the minor update Patch 7.38, arriving Tuesday, November 11. This patch will:

Patch 7.4 “Into the Mist” – Launching December 16, 2025

Patch 7.4 releases on December 16, 2025, featuring:

The Savage version releases three weeks later, on January 6, 2026, a deliberate delay to avoid holiday conflicts. Yoshi-P mentioned they wanted to prevent players from having to “sacrifice family time for raiding” during Christmas—a decision warmly received by the community.

Main Scenario Quest (MSQ) – Story Sneak Peek

Several screenshots teased the new story:

1. A floating blimp seen by Y’shtola, G’raha Tia, Thancred, and Krile.

2. Krile appears contemplative in one shot.

3. The third one is about the new dungeon, The Mistwake, in Patch 7.4.

4. Another scene shows a sweating figure holding an unknown item—clearly significant to the 7.4 storyline.

New Dungeon: The Mistwake

The new dungeon appears subterranean, featuring dim lighting, strange reactors or vault-like doors, and possibly an underground dome city. Its atmosphere resembles the Coils of Bahamut or Fallout’s hidden vaults—mysterious and dystopian in tone.

New Trial: Hell on Rails

The new trial, “Hell on Rails,” pits players against what looks like a demonic Doom Train. Available in both Normal and Extreme difficulties, this fight evokes Sigmascape Phantom Train, possibly featuring a “train-on-train” chase. Expect a visually spectacular battle.

Arcadion: Heavyweight Tier

A new gladiatorial arena will host the final Arcadian fights, surrounded by weapons and braziers.

Yoshi-P humorously denied any “floor disappearing” mechanics—so expect something unexpected in Part 2 of the Live Letter.

With Patch 7.4 introducing new dungeons and high-end raid content, gearing up your character will once again be a top priority. From crafting consumables to upgrading gear, every adventurer will need plenty of Gil. If you’re short on time, MmoGah’s FF14 Gil service offers a fast, safe, and reliable way to get the Gil you need for upgrades and preparations before tackling new content.

Unreal Trial – Tsukuyomi’s Pain (Unreal)

The next Unreal encounter revisits Tsukuyomi’s Pain from Stormblood, updated to Level 100 difficulty. Expect new rewards from the Faux Hollows minigame.

Duty Support Expansion

Duty Support is being expanded to include Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale, allowing players to clear them solo with NPC allies. Additionally, a new “Echo-like stack system” will apply: dying grants you stacks that strengthen you on retry until you clear the fight.

PvP Updates

Series 10 begins with Patch 7.4, introducing a new Frontline map featuring dynamic weather effects that affect gameplay and standard new rewards and balance adjustments for Crystalline Conflict and Frontline.

Gold Saucer Updates

A new map is coming to the Air Force One minigame, featuring battles against airships and a Kraken near Hullbreaker Isle. Looks like a fun, fast-paced addition for minigame enthusiasts.

Phantom Weapon and Occult Crescent Updates

The Occult Crescent itself will see major updates in 7.5, including a new island and tower with multiple difficulty tiers.

Cosmic Exploration Updates

A new star, Oizys, joins the exploration lineup. It’s a twin-ring planet with floating rocks and unique flora—evidence of a lost civilization that tampered with gravity. Players can look forward to:

Variant Dungeon: The Merchant’s Tale

The next Variant Dungeon takes players into a living painting—a beautifully stylized world that looks like concept art brought to life. Players will explore with an NPC related to Y’shtola, uncovering multiple story paths and endings.

A major change arrives with Variant Dungeon: Advanced Mode, featuring only the three boss fights from the dungeon. Players can fight them in any order, and each provides personal and bonus rewards. This mode is designed for 2–4 players and offers a more focused challenge.

Criterion Dungeons also receive updates, now featuring streamlined boss sequences with increased difficulty and stricter revival limits.

System Updates and QoL Improvements

New UI Themes: “Clear Green” and “Clear White” interface options.

Strategy Board: A long-awaited tool allowing players to plan and share raid strategies in-game. More details will be shown in the next Live Letter.

Command Panel: A new customizable panel system lets players store emotes, macros, gear sets, and more across four pages (25 slots each), freeing up hotbar space and decluttering the UI.

Glamour System Overhaul: The biggest update of all: unrestricted glamour gear! Players can now glamour any armor on any job, regardless of level or class restrictions. (Weapons must still match weapon types.)

Housing Update Delayed to 7.5

Unfortunately, the long-promised housing system overhaul—including adjustable interior sizes and increased furnishing limits—has been delayed to Patch 7.5 due to technical challenges. The team remains committed to implementing these changes next year.

Final Thoughts

While Patch 7.4 initially seemed modest, the unrestricted glamour system, Variant Dungeon changes, and UI upgrades make it one of the most exciting updates FFXIV has seen in years. With “Into the Mist,” Final Fantasy XIV continues to evolve—balancing fresh gameplay with long-awaited community features.
