WoW TWW Alt Gearing Up Guide – How to Catch Up Before Patch 11.2
With the arrival of TWW Patch 11.1.7—a major catch-up update before the start of Season 3 in 11.2, now is the perfect time for players to gear up and prepare their characters. This patch presents an excellent opportunity to level multiple alts, especially through the Turbulent Timeways event. However, once your characters reach max level, the next big question is: how do you gear them efficiently and quickly? Luckily, Dalaran shared some efficient ways on his YouTube channel to help us gear up alts before Season 3 drops. Let's dive in.
If you want some cheap TWW gold to boost your WoW journey, we can help here. Having been in the market for nearly two decades, we can be your reliable choice.
1. Timewalking Dungeons and Raids: Quick Hero Track Gear
If you've been leveling through Turbulent Timeways, you're already familiar with Timewalking content. Timewalking weeks are rotating events that allow players to revisit dungeons and raids from older expansions at scaled levels.
Key Benefits:
Completing 5 Timewalking Dungeons grants a quest reward that includes Hero Track gear.
During certain weeks, a Timewalking Raid Quest is also available, rewarding an additional piece of Hero Track gear. These raids include:
- Burning Crusade – Black Temple
- Wrath of the Lich King – Ulduar
- Cataclysm – Firelands
Each of these raid quests tasks you with defeating the final boss (e.g., Ragnaros or Yogg-Saron), and rewards powerful gear that remains relevant well into early Season 3.
During the Battle for Azeroth Timewalking week, players can also access content from the Liberation of Undermine raid. This raid contains some of the strongest trinkets, weapons, and bonus-effect items available from older content, many of which remain viable for early Season 3 gameplay.
2. Horrific Visions: Consistent Weekly Hero Track Rewards
Another incredibly rewarding catch-up activity is Horrific Visions. With full Hourglass upgrades and buffs from tributes, this content is currently easier than ever.
Recommended Approach:
Aim for Five-Mask and Four-Mask clears to maximize rewards.
Each completed vision with 4-5 masks grants Hero Track gear.
Use a tanky companion (especially when under-geared) to reduce incoming damage, manage aggro, and help with revives or interrupts.
Focus on clearing all side zones and defeating the final boss for maximum rewards.
Best Mask Combinations:
Burned Bridge
Dark Imagination
Nemesis (great for sanity regeneration)
Daredevil
Vengeance (requires careful pulls but is manageable)
Even if you're undergeared, these masks are relatively beginner-friendly with a cautious approach. Avoid large pulls, take your time, and you'll be successful.
Also, completing a Five-Mask run unlocks access to the Hero Track Weapon Vendor, which offers a variety of weapons for Intellect users, Agility users, etc. This solves a major gearing hurdle, especially for fresh characters who struggle to find high-quality weapons. Add this to your weekly routine, and you'll quickly gear up your alt's weapon slot without RNG.
3. Delve Content: High-Value Weekly Upgrades
Don't overlook Delves—they're one of the most consistent and rewarding ways to earn Hero Track gear and prepare for the upcoming Season 3. At the core of the delve progression is the D.I.S.C. Belt, a customizable item that starts at item level 691 and can be upgraded weekly to 701. This belt can be infused with Titan Discs, offering powerful passive bonuses like damage boosts or secondary stat enhancements.
How to Get Started:
- Participate in low-tier Delves.
- Make sure the Delve is "charged," then complete it by clearing a set number of enemies.
- You'll receive the D.I.S.C. Belt and weekly quest progression toward its upgrade.
In addition, you can obtain guaranteed Hero Track loot by speaking with Sir Finley Mrrgglton. Doing so spawns the current seasonal delve boss—currently The Underpin. Defeating this boss provides another guaranteed Hero Track piece weekly.
Even solo classes with little gear can clear Tier 8 delves with the help of Brann (the NPC companion) in either tank or healer mode. This makes delve content one of the most alt-friendly gearing methods available right now.
4. Cartel Chips & the Gear Vendor
Another powerful catch-up system comes in the form of Cartel Chips, which are used at the Gear Vendor to purchase Hero Track gear (and sometimes even Mythic Track pieces if you've done high-end content). These chips allow for targeted gear selection, filling in gaps your character might still have after doing Delves, Visions, and Timewalking.
How to Earn Cartel Chips:
- Complete Liberation of Undermine raid runs.
- Run any Mythic+ dungeon, regardless of key level.
- Weekly Mythic dungeons or raids grant better chances at collecting chips.
For those spamming Mythic+, farming keys around +6 is ideal to get crests required to upgrade Hero Track gear. Then, transition to +7 keys to farm Gilded Crests for even stronger upgrades. These dungeons are accessible and efficient for gearing purposes, especially if you're juggling multiple alts.
5. Valorstone Vendor: Easy Filler Gear
For the ultimate convenience, check out the Valorstone vendor in the Mythic+ hub. Located near the Timewalking portal room, this vendor offers Undermine Equipment Chests for just 350 Valorstones. These chests contain random Champion Track dungeon gear from the current Season 2 loot pool.
Valorstones are farmable and Warband-transferable. This means you can farm Valor on your main, buy the chests, and mail them to your alts. It's one of the most time-efficient methods to give undergeared characters a solid starting point. While the randomness makes it a bit of a gamble, the low cost and ease of access make this a valuable tool for mass gearing.
Final Words
By cycling through these systems weekly, you can gear multiple characters in parallel without burning out on high-end content. This patch is all about accessibility and prep, and you can walk into Season 3 with full confidence—armed, geared, and ready for whatever's next.
