FFXIV Live Letter 87 Recap: What Is Coming for Patch 7.3
The latest Letter from the Producer LIVE brought exciting details about Final Fantasy XIV's upcoming Patch 7.3, officially titled "The Promise of Tomorrow." This patch marks the finale of the Dawntrail storyline and sets the stage for a brand-new chapter in the Warrior of Light's journey. Scheduled for early August 2025, Patch 7.3 brings new quests, dungeons, trials, and system updates alongside quality-of-life features players have long been waiting for.
A new allied tribe questline Yok Huy is coming. And as expected, the Hildibrand Adventures continue in the 7.3 series, promising more laughs and chaos. A new dungeon called Meso Terminal will come as a part of the MSQ.
There will also be Echoes of Vana'diel Part 2 - San d'Oria: The Second Walk, continuing the nostalgia-fueled journey through classic Final Fantasy XI zones. Yoshi-P also mentioned an amusing bug in testing where the background music consisted entirely of bagpipes.
The new Unreal Trial will be Wreath of Snakes, rounding out the final Stormblood Unreal content. With this complete, future patches will bring Unreals from different expansions.
A new treasure map dungeon named Vault Oneiron will also be added. Yoshi-P teased unique mini-games in this dungeon, possibly featuring dancing or DJ-style mechanics.
Duty Support System expands to include Cutter's Cry, continuing SE's goal of enabling solo play for older content.
PvP Series 9 will begin with new mounts, glamour rewards, and PvP balance adjustments.
A new Crystalline Conflict map, the Bayside Battleground, will be introduced, along with duo queue for casual play and new Omega and Ultimate ranking tiers.
Patch 7.31 will launch cosmic exploration through the Moongate hub with a new planet called Phaenna. Described as rich in alien flora and caves, it's visually reminiscent of Star Trek and offers a more "alien" feel than the moon. Players will also engage in the next stage of the Relic Tool series, with new rewards and the return of the "spinning wheel" mechanic.
The Stellar Standing and Star Contributor effects return here, too, along with continued content from Occult Crescent and the Phantom Relic weapon series.
A new deep dungeon titled Pilgrim's Traverse is coming. This one features a twist—rather than ascending or descending, you'll slide through areas. The requirements include the completion of the Endwalker MSQ, a level 91+ character, and reaching Floor 50 in Palace of the Dead. A harder version of the Floor 99 boss will be available after the completion of the normal mode, intended for level 100 parties of four. More details will be shared in Live Letter Part 88.
Yoshi-P confirmed that there will not be an Ultimate fight in Patch 7.3. However, one is currently in development and will come in a later patch.
The long-requested chat bubble feature will debut in 7.3.x. Bubbles will be disabled by default but can be toggled on in the settings per chat type (party, say, shout, etc.). Players will be able to:
- Customize font color
- Choose 1–2 line display
- Set truncation limits
- Disable during battle or PvP
- Feedback will shape the future of this feature.
Character Customization Enhancements: Expanded Headgear for Viera & Hrothgar
- More headgear compatibility
- Option to hide Viera's ears for clipping concerns
- Assignable via visor toggle system
- Settings saved to gear sets
Also, bangs will now remain visible while wearing hood-type headgear—a welcome update for fashion-conscious players.
A new whiteboard feature is in development for group strategy planning. This tool aims to streamline raid planning, which is especially useful for week-one progression and party-finder groups. Expected in 7.4 or later, it will include:
- Combat display toggle
- Job highlighting
- Multiple strategy layouts per duty
- Easy sharing with other players
Patch 7.3 is shaping up to be a massive and exciting update for Final Fantasy XIV. While the absence of an Ultimate encounter may disappoint some, the new dungeon, cosmic exploration, PvP updates, and deep dungeon content offer a lot to look forward to. With expanded customization, new systems, and whiteboard features on the horizon, The Promise of Tomorrow is more than just a name—it's the start of a bold new era for the game.
