Diablo 4 Season 15 Preparation Guide: 6 Things to Do Before Launch

Diablo 4 Season 15 launches on September 15, 2026, bringing major changes to Mythic upgrades, Soul Splinters, Challenge Dungeons, Rebirth, and endgame progression.

Before the new season begins, the most useful preparation is not simply hoarding materials. It is understanding the new systems, avoiding wasted resources, and deciding how you want to progress once Season 15 starts.

Here are six things worth doing before launch.

1. Save Your Best Unique Items

Season 15 changes the Horadric Cube's Direct Mythic Upgrade system.

Currently, upgrading a Unique to Mythic can replace it with a random Mythic from the same equipment slot. That makes it risky to sacrifice a strong Unique with ideal affixes, Tempering, and Masterworking.

In Season 15, the direct upgrade keeps the original item and converts it into its Mythic version while preserving its existing affixes, Tempering, Masterworking, and other modifications. That makes high-quality Uniques much more valuable.

Before launch, keep Unique items with:

* Strong Greater Affixes

* Ideal build stats

* Good Tempering

* Heavy Masterworking investment

Also avoid making an important Unique Unmodifiable if you may want to upgrade it later.

2. Learn How Soul Splinters Work

Soul Splinters are one of Season 15's major new build systems. They can be socketed into jewelry and provide powerful effects, but many also come with meaningful drawbacks.

For example, one Splinter may increase Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed while increasing Resource Costs. Another may greatly increase damage while removing Critical Strikes entirely. That means the strongest-looking Splinter is not automatically the best one for your build.

Before Season 15 begins, think about what disadvantages your planned build can tolerate.

A resource-heavy build may struggle with increased Resource Costs, while a non-Crit build could benefit much more from a Splinter that removes Critical Strike Chance.

Do not plan around exact PTR numbers yet, because they can still change before launch.

3. Decide Whether to Use Rebirth

Season 15 introduces Rebirth, allowing you to convert an Eternal character into a Seasonal character.

The character returns to Level 1 but keeps its class, name, appearance, Hardcore or Normal status, and cosmetic setup. Your equipment does not transfer with the character. Before using Rebirth, remove anything important from the character's inventory and equipped slots.

If you already have a character whose appearance and identity you want to keep, Rebirth can make starting Season 15 more convenient.

4. Choose Your Starter Build Early

Repeatedly changing builds at the beginning of a season can waste gold, materials, and time.

Before launch, decide on three basic stages:

Leveling Build → Early Endgame Build → Final Mythic Build

You do not need every detail finalized. Simply know which skills you will level with, which early Legendary or Unique items you need, and what endgame build you eventually want to reach. This makes it easier to avoid upgrading gear that will be replaced shortly afterward.

If an important weapon, armor piece, or Unique becomes difficult to obtain after launch, players can also check available Diablo 4 items instead of repeatedly farming the same content.

5. Prepare for Challenge Dungeons

Season 15 adds Challenge Dungeons, where players can fight enemies above their current Torment level for better rewards.

The key is efficiency. Do not automatically choose the highest difficulty available. Instead, test how quickly and consistently your build clears each level.

Pay attention to:

* Boss kill speed

* Death frequency

* Resource sustain

* Survivability

* Reward quality

If a higher difficulty takes several times longer to clear, a slightly easier level may produce better rewards per hour.

Season 15 also introduces dangerous Overland Ambush encounters, so survivability and mobility may matter more than pure damage.

6. Don't Overfarm Season 14 Gold

Gold will remain extremely important in Season 15 because crafting, enchanting, Masterworking, and gear optimization can become expensive. However, farming huge amounts of Season 14 gold does not give a fresh Season 15 Seasonal character an immediate advantage.

A better use of your time is learning which activities generate gold, crafting materials, and useful drops efficiently.

Once Season 15 begins, prioritize farming methods that provide several useful rewards at once rather than focusing only on raw gold.

As upgrade costs increase later in the season, Diablo 4 Gold can also help cover expensive rerolls, Masterworking, and other gear optimization costs.

Quick Season 15 Checklist

Before September 15:

● Keep excellent Unique items.

● Learn the basic Soul Splinter system.

● Decide whether to use Rebirth.

● Choose your starter and endgame build.

● Understand Challenge Dungeon difficulty scaling.

● Avoid wasting gold and materials on unnecessary upgrades.

● Check the final patch notes because PTR details may still change.

Final Thoughts

The best Season 15 preparation is having a clear progression plan. Save valuable Uniques, understand Soul Splinter trade-offs, choose your starter build, and learn how the new endgame systems work before launch.

That way, when Season 15 begins, you can spend less time experimenting blindly and more time leveling, gearing, and progressing toward your endgame build.
