Good News-How Can WoW Gold be Used in Overwatch and Hearthstone Games

As of now, it has been declared by Blizzard that players’ stockpiled gold from World of Warcraft to pick up items and characters can be used in other Battle.net games, which include Overwatch, Hearthstone, or Heroes of the Storm. The new system is an expansion of the existing WoW Token, which allows WoW players to use gold to buy tokens to redeem for game time, or buy tokens with real money to convert into in-game gold. This system is similar to Blizzard’s WoW Tokens initiative, which allows players to convert their gold or even unused items into free play time.

Blizzard is expanding that effort by letting players indirectly trade WoW gold for in-game items. On Battle.net the gold that they’ve earned in World of Warcraft can be converted into credit by players. The move allows players to convert their in-game currency into virtual goods for other Blizzard products, like Overwatch and Hearthstone. Thanks to the change in the way Blizzard’s WoW tokens work, players can now farm World of Warcraft gold and apply it towards credit for Overwatch loot boxes, Heroes of the Storm character unlocks and Hearthstone cards.

You'd better prepare to farm a lot of gold, though. The purchase price for a WoW Token at auction house can fluctuate wildly. That gives each in-game gold piece a rough value between 1/100th and 2/100th of a cent, when converted to Blizzard.net balance. Large quantities of min-maxing players manage to net hundreds of thousands of gold in a month are visible, but the gold can just be exchanged to dozens of dollars across the Blizzard ecosystem.

There a list of what you can buy with the Battle.net funds:

Character services like realm and faction transfer.

World of Warcraft mounts, pets, cosmetic helms from the in-game shop.

Hearthstone card packs and adventures.

Heroes of the Storm Heroes, skins, and mounts.

Digital versions of Blizzard games including Digital Deluxe editions - these versions of games have additional goodies like WoW pets.

Through the World of Warcraft auction house players can do so by purchasing these tokens with in-game gold. Then they can exchange the tokens through auction house for credit on their Battle.net Balance, which they can use to spend on other Blizzard Entertainment games. This is perfect for players who used to play World of Warcraft back in the day and still have some gold laying around on their old accounts because they can now trade them in to purchase Lunar Loot Boxes in Overwatch or Mean Streets of Gadgetzan Card Packs in Hearthstone.

That balance can then be spent on packs of Hearthstone cards, Overwatch Loot Boxes, Heroes of the Storm skins, or even downloadable copies of games like StarCraft II and Diablo III. That means that a dedicated WoW player can now find a multigame Blizzard habit simply by earning enough in-game gold.

Depending on your World of Warcraft gold farming acumen, this could be a nice way to turn that lazy grinding time into extra in-game items or even full digital Blizzard games. Now players can convert WoW Tokens into Battle.net Balance. That balance can then be used across Blizzard's entire digital platform. When you redeem a WoW token, you get two options now: either 30 days of game time in WoW or $15 in Battle.net Balance. It’s kind of like that if you’re familiar with EVE’s PLEX system.

Players can buy WoW gold for token, and are then free to trade them in a special marketplace. It’s similar to a system that’s been part of CCP Games’ Eve Online for some time. So, if you’ve got some spare cash or high-level raid gear you’re no longer interested in keeping around, it might be a good time to cash out. The Chinese has brought with it tons of new character skins, sprays and emotes for Overwatch.

Between all of its games, this move allows Blizzard to continue to consolidate the strong shared economy it has. Then take the fruits of your labor over to Overwatch to buy loot boxes or Hearthstone to buy card packs. Either way, Blizzard has your money and there's little way to move it out of the company's ecosystem. "Funds added to Battle.net Balance are not refundable, and cannot be converted into cash. Battle.net Balance can only be used to buy designated Blizzard Entertainment products and services," says Blizzard. "Battle.net Balance is non-transferable. However, the Battle.net Shop allows you to purchase some items as gifts you can share with others."

In other words, by playing WoW into real-world money you can now turn gold you've earned, albeit money can only be used on certain Blizzard products. That said, with this money going into your Battle.net wallet, it's not limited to World of Warcraft purchases, like character transfers or pets. You could potentially even buy an entire game.
