Elden Ring DLC Release Date and Preparation Guide

By Shirley Huang2023-07-04

A leak via Exputer revealed a potential release window of the upcoming Elden Ring DLC. FromSoftware is looking to release Armored Core 6 (maybe release in September or October) before Elden Ring DLC - Shadow of the Erdtree expansion's coming.

According to the report, Kadokawa, which owns FromSoftware, doesn't feature the Elden Ring DLC in its plans for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024. It means that Shadow of the Erdtree will be released in April 2024 or later.

If you want to get ready for Elden Ring DLC, here are some possible tips:

Complete the Main Game

Before delving into DLC content, it's usually recommended to finish the main game first and explore all the regions, dungeons, and secrets of the Lands Between. You might find some clues or hints about the DLC content or lore in the game world. This allows you to fully understand the storyline, characters, and mechanics, which might be relevant in the DLC.

Collect Everything

Doing a bit of Scavenging will consume most of your time preparing because we'll need to collect a ton of items. There are four main things that you should try to get as many of as possible.   Those are Bell Bearings, Talismans, weapons, and armor. It's easy to focus on one specific build and then ignore all the items that don't work with it, but the thing is that DLC is going to introduce so many new items, so many new weapons and pieces of equipment that you're going to try out. If that is the case, then having all of the talismans and armor sets that can maximize that build will save you so much time and hassle. Once you're in the DLC and with the ability to respect being so freely given, this should definitely be something you consider now.

Try Out Different Builds

You can try out different weapons, spells, and skills to experiment with different playstyles and strategies and might discover new ways to tackle the challenges of the game or find new synergies and combos.

Level Up Your Character

If you anticipate that the DLC will offer challenging content, it can be a good idea to ensure your character is adequately prepared. This involves leveling up your character, improving equipment, and acquiring powerful items or abilities. Take the time to explore the game world, complete side quests, and defeat optional bosses to strengthen your character.

Accumulate In-game Currency or Resources

DLC content may introduce new Elden Ring items, weapons, or areas that require in-game currency or resources to access or unlock. Consider saving up any relevant currency (including Elden Ring runes) or gathering resources that might be valuable in the upcoming DLC.

Play on New Game Plus Mode

It is an unlockable feature upon completion of the story, which allows you to begin a new journey while maintaining stats and selecting pieces of equipment. This can increase the difficulty and replay value of the game. You will also be able to access new items, enemies, and events that are exclusive to New Game+.

Engage in Multiplayer or Cooperative Play

Some DLC expansions introduce multiplayer elements or cooperative gameplay. If you enjoy playing with others, consider joining communities and guilds or finding friends to play with when the DLC releases. You can help or hinder other Tarnished in their quests or join the Colosseum Update DLC to battle in various arenas.

Optimize For Competition

Have a solid PvP build, even if you don't regularly play it. I do fully expect the Colosseums to get a bit of an overhaul. Because, in all reality, they were a little bit of a disappointment in the Souls game.

The Colosseums all got new maps with each DLC, and I imagine Elden Ring will follow a similar track because there's been a lot of fan outcry for it, but even Beyond map design from software has made clear that PvP is a big part of their vision, and I could definitely see them, including much more with the Colosseums in the actual DLC release.

Players can get an actual reward structure or leaderboards or even bring covenants back regardless of the Colosseums, though the DLCs and from software games consistently have the best PvP experience even if they don't introduce a dedicated PvP boss as they did in Dark Souls 3.

The level design typically makes for some of the best invasions you can do, so my point here is even if you're not a dedicated PvP player or if you didn't enjoy the PvP of the main game, it'll be worth at least having because there will be PvP updates included the DLC.

Follow the Official Elden Ring and FromSoftware Social Media Websites

You can receive any news or updates on the DLC development or release date and also join some online communities or forums where fans discuss and speculate about the DLC content or features.

Revisit Lore and Story

If the DLC is expected to expand on the game's lore or storyline, it may be helpful to refresh your memory about the existing lore. Consider revisiting key story points and characters or watching lore videos to enhance your understanding and immersion in the DLC.
