A fast Diablo 4 Season 15 start is not just about reaching level 70. You also need enough damage, useful equipment, and a clear next step to avoid slowing down immediately afterward.
This guide follows a Helltide-first route: build your War Plans setup, unlock Writhe and Rot, farm Maggots, and refresh your equipment when necessary. After 70, turn that progress into seasonal powers, key Uniques, and stronger Glyphs.
Guide scope: This route assumes you can skip the campaign and already have access to War Plans and the relevant expansion activities. It is a starting strategy, not a verified live-season speedrun record.
⚙️ 1. Set Up Your Character and War Plans
Choose a Helltide-Focused Plan
Create your Seasonal character, hire your available Mercenaries, and enable your Pet.
This setup is for your first Season 15 character. Alts with matching Seasonal/Eternal, Hardcore, and Solo Self-Found settings share War Plans progress, so they may be able to skip part of the setup. Season 14 progress transfers to Eternal, not new Season 15 characters.
Look for a War Plan containing at least one Helltide activity. Two Helltide entries are preferable for this route. Recreating your character to get a double-Helltide opening is an optional optimization, not something every player needs to do.
For a normal first run, prioritize getting started over repeatedly chasing the perfect opening. The important objective is to begin developing your Helltide setup.
Delay Seasonal Detours, Not Seasonal Progress Forever
The speed-focused route postpones the seasonal questline and Season Journey while establishing the Helltide farming loop. Follow that order when your immediate goal is uninterrupted leveling.
However, claim rewards you already earn, and do not confuse “do this later” with “this does not matter.” Blizzard lists Skill Points and Paragon points among Season Rank rewards.
Our recommendation is to avoid lengthy detours during the initial setup, then return to seasonal progression when your leveling loop is established or you reach 70.
🔥 2. Build Your Helltide Leveling Loop
Reach Helltide War Plans Level 2
Start on Normal and gather Cinders to open Helltide chests. Keep choosing and completing Helltide-focused War Plans until your Helltide War Plans tree reaches level 2, then unlock Writhe and Rot. This is the activity’s upgrade level, not your character’s level.
Optional shortcut — unverified for Season 15: The pre-season strategy farms Cinders on Normal, switches to Penitent to open chests, then returns to Normal for farming. The intended benefit is faster War Plans progress, but the Season 15 reward interaction still needs confirmation.
For now, open chests on your farming difficulty. You do not need to rely on difficulty swapping to follow this route.
Farm Maggots on Normal or Hard
Once Writhe and Rot is active, shift your attention toward Maggot farming. The route uses Normal or Hard at this stage rather than immediately pushing higher difficulties.
In Season 15, Plague Maggot Young created by the Hellmouth Helltide node are less likely to drop Experience Orbs.
Begin on Normal if your character feels fragile. Test Hard once you can kill packs quickly and survive comfortably. Deaths force you to rebuild Helltide threat, so avoid raising the difficulty if it leads to repeated deaths.
Keep moving between productive encounters and avoid spending long stretches searching empty ground. If your current circuit repeatedly produces little experience, change your route rather than persisting with it.
Raise difficulty when your damage supports it—not simply because another difficulty becomes available.
When Should You Try the Undercity?
Consider the Undercity once your character meets its entry requirements and you have unlocked its experience-focused War Plans setup.
Blizzard confirms that Jade Epiphany produces twice as many Experience Orbs. This affects that node, not all experience earned in the Undercity.
If Helltide farming slows down, compare several complete Undercity runs with your Helltide results, including travel, failed runs, and gear-management time. Stay with the activity that gives you more consistent progress.
🛡️ 3. Fix Weak Gear Without Derailing Your Leveling
Make Small, Useful Upgrades
Temper and imprint useful gear, and equip Movement Speed Charms when available.
Use those upgrades to solve an immediate problem. If damage is falling behind, improve the equipment supporting your main attack. If survival is the problem, address that before raising the difficulty again.
Do not turn each gear refresh into a full optimization session. Spend on upgrades that improve your next farming run. Do not chase perfect rolls on temporary gear.
A useful stopping point is simple: your character can handle the next stretch of farming comfortably. Resume leveling once that is true.
Use PvP Chests as an Optional Detour
If your gear falls behind, consider an optional PvP-area chest run. Use Mark for Blood before checking the chests. You can make another pass around level 61 or level 70 if your equipment still needs an upgrade.
Treat this as an optional detour. Skip it when the area is contested or you are uncomfortable with PvP.
Check the actual drops. If they are not meaningful upgrades, return to leveling instead of repeatedly searching for more chests.
🏁 4. What to Do After Level 70
Prepare Your Gear and Unlock Torment
At 70, review your equipment, apply useful Tempers and Aspects, and address obvious weaknesses before pushing difficulty.

Unlock Torment 1 when your character is ready, then return to the seasonal questline. As your gear improves, work toward Torment 5 through Capstone and Pit progression.
Treat Torment 5 as a progression goal, not a difficulty every fresh character should immediately farm. Follow the route’s principle of using the highest tier where you can kill Maggots quickly without dying. Lower it when prolonged fights or deaths interrupt the run.
Choose a Splinter That Supports Your Farming
Blizzard confirms that Diablo’s Splinter modifies Helltide and Infernal Hordes, while Baal’s Splinter modifies the Undercity and Lair Bosses. These activity-focused powers are separate from the socketable Soul Splinters used in jewelry.
For this route, choose Diablo if its unlocked bonuses improve Maggot farming. Consider Baal if its bonuses improve Undercity experience. Those conditions are important: neither choice should be treated as automatically best before checking its actual effects.
Read the available modifiers before deciding. “Diablo affects Helltide” does not automatically mean every Diablo bonus improves Maggot experience.
Farm Paragon and Your Key Uniques
Continue farming experience and collecting Lair Boss keys, then use those keys to target the Uniques your build needs.
Paragon 130 is a flexible early milestone, not a prerequisite for boss farming. If a missing Unique is limiting your build, farm for it rather than waiting to reach that number.
Start Improving Your Glyphs
The next step is to progress the Pit War Plans tree to level 2, unlock Heart of Stone, and run the Pit to raise Glyphs toward level 50. Continue seasonal quests and Season Journey objectives alongside this progression instead of leaving them untouched.
Work on the Glyphs your build actually uses rather than spreading upgrades without a plan. Keep the focus on improvements that help you clear your next farming tier.
✅ Finish With a Character That Can Keep Progressing
Use the route as a sequence of goals, not a stopwatch challenge. Unlock the farming setup first, adjust difficulty according to your damage and survival, and stop for gear when it solves a real problem.
A strong start leaves you ready for the next activity—not simply standing at level 70 with an unfinished build.
