Leveling crafting jobs in Final Fantasy XIV has never been easier than in the Dawntrail era. With the introduction of new systems and smarter approaches, players can now take a crafter from level 1 to 100 quickly while keeping Gil costs under control. This guide, shared by Jolsn on his YouTube channel, walks through a streamlined method that focuses on efficiency, minimal spending, and unlocking essential systems along the way.

Requirements and Preparation

Before getting started, there are a couple of important requirements.

First, this method assumes that Endwalker has been completed, as it unlocks key features required later in the process. Because of this, free trial players can only follow the guide up to around level 15.

Second, having around 1 million Gil is recommended. While this approach minimizes expenses, some gear upgrades are unavoidable—especially for your first crafting job. If you're short on Gil, using a trusted marketplace like MmoGah to buy FFXIV gil can be a quick way to get started without slowing down your progression.

For your starting class, Culinarian is highly recommended. It provides an easy way to earn Gil at endgame, allowing you to recover your leveling costs quickly. That said, any crafting job can follow this method effectively.

Levels 1–15: Learning the Basics

The early stages are straightforward and serve as an introduction to crafting.

Focus on completing your guild quests and following your Guildmaster’s instructions. These quests provide the experience, gear, and materials needed to progress smoothly. Most required materials can be purchased directly from the guild supplier. If you ever struggle to locate an item, tools like Garland Tools can help identify where to obtain it.

During this phase, experiment freely with crafting. Producing high-quality items grants more experience, so try to increase quality whenever possible. You will also unlock Quick Synthesis, which allows you to mass-produce items quickly—especially useful for leveling additional crafters later.

Reaching level 15 takes very little time, and once there, the real acceleration begins.

Levels 15–53: Cosmic Exploration Power Leveling

At level 15, the most efficient leveling method becomes available: Cosmic Exploration, a Dawntrail feature. After unlocking it in Old Sharlayan, you gain access to instanced crafting missions that provide a massive amount of experience. The key advantage here is that all materials are provided, eliminating the need to spend Gil on crafting resources.

Instead of focusing on high-quality crafts, the optimal strategy is to complete progress-only crafts. Meeting the minimum requirements to finish a craft is enough to earn full experience rewards. This approach has several benefits:

  • Crafting becomes significantly faster
  • Durability is preserved since quality is ignored
  • Lower-level gear remains viable for longer

Gear upgrades during this stage are minimal. Simply purchase basic crafting gear available within Cosmic Exploration and prioritize stats like Craftsmanship, Control, and CP.

Crafting Macros

For efficiency, crafting macros can be used. Tools such as Raphael XIV allow you to input your stats and generate automated crafting rotations. These macros let you craft consistently without manual input, making the process far more relaxed.

To use this site, you begin by inputting your character’s crafting stats: Craftsmanship, Control, CP (Crafting Points) and job level. These values can be found directly on your character screen. It is important to input your base stats without food buffs, as temporary bonuses can distort the solver’s calculations. If desired, food can be selected within the solver itself to simulate buffed conditions more accurately.

Next, you select the recipe you want to craft. Since multiple entries of the same item may appear, you should identify the correct one by matching the progress value shown in-game with the one listed in the solver. This ensures the macro is calculated for the exact recipe difficulty.

Once everything is configured, Raphael XIV generates a macro tailored to your stats and chosen recipe. You can copy this macro and paste it into the in-game macro interface.

Important Note

During the leveling process—particularly between levels 15 and 53—crafting follows a slightly different rhythm compared to endgame optimization.

One important distinction is that crafting items themselves does not grant experience. Instead, experience is awarded when you turn in levequests or missions. This means your goal is simply to produce enough items to meet the turn-in requirements. Because of this, you can craft as many items as needed without worrying about efficiency losses. Moreover, material costs are often negligible or fully covered by the system.

At these levels, crafting is simple enough that macros are not strictly necessary. A basic approach—such as repeatedly using Basic Synthesis—is often sufficient to complete recipes. However, as recipes gradually become more difficult, you may reach a point where manual crafting no longer guarantees success. When that happens, you can return to Raphael XIV to generate a reliable macro for your current stats.

This cycle—crafting items, turning them in for experience, and occasionally updating your macro—is effectively all you need to progress smoothly up to level 53.

Unlocking Core Systems at Level 70

Level 70 is a major milestone where crafting shifts from basic progression into a more structured economy.

Collectables

Collectables are special crafts where quality is replaced by Collectability. Instead of maximizing quality, you only need to reach certain thresholds to receive rewards. Mechanically, they function almost identically to normal crafting and can be handled using the same macro tools (including Raphael).

Custom Deliveries

Custom Deliveries are weekly turn-ins of Collectables to specific NPCs. They:

  • Reset every Tuesday
  • Provide large amounts of Scrips
  • Are one of the best sources of progression resources

You can complete multiple deliveries per NPC each week, making this a consistent and reliable system.

Scrips and Gear Progression

Scrips are a special currency earned primarily through Collectables and Custom Deliveries. They are used to purchase Scrip gear, which becomes your main source of equipment at this stage.

By completing deliveries for NPCs such as Zhloe and M’naago, you can earn enough Scrips to purchase an entire gear set, including tools. This is extremely important because:

  • It avoids spending large amounts of Gil
  • It provides a strong baseline for further progression

One limitation at level 70 is that certain tool slots may not be fully covered by Scrip gear, requiring a small amount of vendor purchases.

Managing Job Quests and Materials

Job quests introduce a different challenge: material complexity. Unlike standard crafting, these quests often require:

  • Multiple intermediate items
  • Diverse material sources
  • Time-consuming gathering

To handle this efficiently, tools like Teamcraft can break down required items into vendor materials, gathered resources and crafted components.

At this stage, you have two choices:

  • Save Gil by gathering materials yourself
  • Spend Gil on the Market Board for convenience

Both approaches are valid. Later systems will allow you to recover Gil quickly, so convenience is often worth the cost.

Leveling Phase (70–100): Macro-Driven Progression

Once you have Scrip gear, Collectables unlocked, and Custom Deliveries active, you can return to your main leveling activity (such as Cosmic Exploration) and progress efficiently to level 100.

Even up to level 99, crafting remains surprisingly manageable. Many recipes can be completed with short macros. In many cases, you will still have excess CP, meaning failure is unlikely.

Handling Difficult Recipes

Occasionally, you will encounter recipes that have no valid macro solution and are too difficult for your current stats. Instead of forcing the craft, the simplest solution is abandon the task and accept a different one. This allows you to maintain efficiency without unnecessary upgrades or frustration. With this approach, you can reach level 100 with minimal Gil investment and without complex manual crafting.

Endgame (Level 100): Optimization and Profit

Reaching level 100 unlocks the full crafting ecosystem.

Gear Progression

You can obtain a level 100 Scrip gear set, which:

  • Functions similarly to earlier Scrip gear
  • Is sufficient for many endgame crafts
  • Prepares you for future expansions

However, for the most difficult recipes, you will eventually need crafted gear.

Making Gil with Levequests

One of the simplest ways to earn Gil at level 100 is through levequest turn-ins. A notable example involves crafting items like Tsai tou Vounou:

  • Turning in high-quality items doubles rewards
  • Each leve can yield around 10,000 Gil
  • With full allowances, this can reach ~1 million Gil

There are two approaches:

  • Gather materials yourself (maximum profit)
  • Buy items from the Market Board (less profit, more convenience)

Even with the second method, you can still generate a steady income while using minimal effort.

Final Thoughts

The crafting journey in Final Fantasy XIV is less about mastering complex mechanics and more about understanding systems and efficiency.

  • Early levels focus on simplicity and repetition
  • Mid-game introduces systems like Collectables and Scrips
  • Late game revolves around macros, gear optimization, and resource flow

By relying on tools like crafting solvers and structuring your progression around key unlocks, you can transform crafting from a tedious grind into a streamlined, almost automated process.
