PoE 2 Patch 0.5 is almost here, and the hype is absolutely real. As we get ready to dive into a fresh league, I want to share Fubgun’s three extremely powerful meta league starters that I believe will shine right from day one.
And yes—I know many players are curious about the brand‑new Martial Artist class. It looks exciting, but since it’s just been introduced and we still don’t fully understand its true potential, I’m leaving it out of this early list for now.
Personally, my plan is to start with Ice Shot Deadeye, a build that feels smooth, scalable, and incredibly reliable for early progression.
1. Twisters (Deadeye or Spirit Walker)
Pros:
1) This build wasn’t get touched in the patch notes, one of the strongest campaign and early mappers in the game
2) Extremely strong boss damage for low investment.
3) The clear is quite insane at low investment as well, I would say it has the best clear on pure SSF day 1 gear.
4) It scales nicely, like all other attack-based builds
Cons:
1) It can never be a one-button build, as it's a combo build with whirlwind slash + twisters (and generally barrage as well)
2) It doesn't scale off MS and instead scales off of attack speed. If you've played these builds before, you know they can be quite clunky to move with.
3) It can be quite squishy early on, even more squishy than bow builds, because of the combo gameplay (have to pre-prep whirlwind assault before entering packs, and you aren't moving with whirlwind assault yet because you don't have enough attack speed early on).
4) If you play Spirit Walker, that'll add another "button" because you'll have to dodge roll before you combo for max damage, which could be annoying.
2. Ice Shot Deadeye
Pros:
1) This build didn't get nerfed at all for endgame mapping, making it one of the best mappers in the game at all budget levels.
2) Extremely satisfying play style with freeze + herald of ice
3) Because it's a bow build, it scales exceptionally well, reaching 6~ arrows in the endgame, which feels extremely good.
4) Snipe one shots all endgame bosses with some investment, and even on day 1, you'll one-shot all map bosses with SSF gear. (Snipe was buffed in endgame)
5) One button build and two buttons for bossing once you reach a midgame budget. At the very high end, it's a pure one-button build.
Cons:
1) Early campaign nerf, bows have never been the fastest campaign runner, and they did slightly nerf the build in campaign (around 18% less dmg on snipe)
2) It will be squishy early on, like all evasion builds. Eventually solved with gear, ES + evasion is still a solid defense (but you do have freeze)
3. Grenades/Crossbows
(Deadeye or tactician or potentially spirit walker, just depends on what you want to do)
Pros:
1) One of the best, if not the best, campaign times in the game. Just overall strong from Act 1 to maps
2) Getting a new weapon type for grenades, this could only be an upside, as it's just a new weapon type with new mods.
3) Really good SSF and day 1 damage - Last time I played this build, I was able to do Xesh 4 in pure SSF gear in under 18hrs (first time playing the build)
4) Stormblast bolts did not get nerfed, and this skill is completely insane single target (one-shot pinnacles).
5) Galvanic shards are still one of the best clearing skills in the game and remain untouched.
Cons:
1) Arjun's medal did receive a big nerf (from 100% chance to reload all bolts on kill to 25%) - This is very build dependent, if you were a 1-2 bolt build than it's a bigger nerf than build with 4-12 bolts (as you'll have more chances to reset, while with 1 bolt you have to proc it on your first bolt).
2) If playing grenades, it can have mana issues with high +skill levels (although +lvls was nerfed this patch)
3) Unless Witchhunter can be squishy early on.
Conclusion
Here is the ending of these top 3 meta builds for the upcoming PoE 2 Patch 0.5. As the launch approaches, I’ll also be sharing my top 10 league starter builds before the league begins, so stay tuned for more in‑depth recommendations and breakdowns.
