Guide to Races in Guild Wars 2

Many players will select their races and professions to customize their appearance in MMOs. MmoGah has introduced professions in last article How to Choose Professions in Guild Wars 2. Similarly, a character's race is important and it has effect on various features. Therefore, MmoGah as one of the best gw2 items and gw2 gold selling sites will share the guide to races in Guild Wars 2 with players.

The playable races are Tyrian species that players can select from during character creation. There are five playable races in Guild Wars 2: the established Humans, the fervent but advanced Charr, the magical and genius Asura, the naive and curious Sylvari, and the strong, glory-seeking Norn. Players’ races determine their starting locations, personal stories, racial skills, and differences in appearance and lore. However, the races are designed to be balanced, such that no one race possesses an unfair advantage over other races.

Asura

“Asura may be short in stature, but these magical inventors are intellectual giants. In the world of the asura, it's not the strong who survive, but the clever. As incredibly intelligent beings, the asura use their knowledge and skill with magic and crafting to assert their natural dominance. Other races believe they should rule by virtue of their power and strength, but they delude themselves. In due time, all will serve the asura.”

The proud Asura are masters of magical technologies, crafting living golems and creating ways to travel quickly across the world via Asura Gates. They once dwelt underground and only shifted to the surface within the last couple of centuries. They’re short, but make up for their stature with their intelligence and magical prowess. Rata Sum is their capital city.

The Asura are all about gadgets, tinkering, and inventions. If players enjoy things like wearing goggles or reading Sir Isaac Newton’s beloved work, then asura will be suitable for them.

Charr

“The charr race was forged in the merciless crucible of war. It is all they know. War defines them, and their quest for dominion drives them ever onward. The weakling and the fool have no place among the charr. Victory is all that matters, and it must be achieved by any means and at any cost.”

The charr are a race of savage feline creatures that are responsible for the fall of Ascalon. Now the charr are in control of everything east of the Shiverpeaks except the mighty fortress of Ebonhawke and the haunted Ascalon City. The charr have four legions: the Blood Legion, the Iron Legion, the Ash Legion and the Outcast Flame Legion.

The Charr were once at war with the humans, but in the face of new threats, a tenuous alliance had been formed. The Charr may not look very intelligent, but they have the best grasp of traditional technology of all Tyria’s races. Ascalon, a very industrial-looking city, is the capital for the Charr. Charr are a bloodthirsty group of wolf-like humanoids, which makes players feel like badasses when they play charr.

Human

“Humans have lost their homeland, their security, and their former glory. Even their gods have withdrawn. And yet, the human spirit remains unshaken. These brave defenders of Kryta continue to fight with every ounce of their strength.”

The Humans have fought countless wars in their time on Tyria. Humanity is facing internal threats, ranging from bandit raids to trouble stemming from the human nobility. Humans are also very adaptable. They can play any class and excel at them. Humans are not as strong as the norn, but they are quick, and will do well in any class. As a very versatile race, humans have a lot of interesting stories and backgrounds.

Norn

“The race of towering hunters experienced a great defeat when the Ice Dragon drove them from their glacial homeland. Nevertheless, they won’t let one lost battle—no matter how punishing—dampen their enthusiasm for life and the hunt. They know that only the ultimate victor achieves legendary rewards.”

The powerful and large norn treasure strength and are close to nature. Because of their strength and huge body, norn are not the quickest among races but what they lack in speed makes up in power. Norn hail from Tyria’s frozen peaks and are adept hunters. They can also Shapeshift into animalistic forms. In recent years, the norn have built the snowy capital city of Hoelbrak.

Norn are individualistic races. The norn's ultimate goals in life are to have their deeds immortalized and the stories of their accomplishments passed down to future generations. Norn have no concept of leaders or government, though some of them may choose to follow certain heroes who have accomplished legendary deeds.

Sylvari

“Sylvari are not born. They awaken beneath the Pale Tree with knowledge gleaned in their pre-life Dream. These noble beings travel, seeking adventure and pursuing quests. They struggle to balance curiosity with duty, eagerness with chivalry, and warfare with honor. Magic and mystery entwine to shape the future of this race that has so recently appeared.”

The sylvari are humanoids that spawn from a plant known as the Pale Tree. They are plant-like in appearance and are the youngest of all races on Tyria. The sylvari may take a human shape, but a closer look will reveal that their flesh is made of vines and leaves, with foliage and petals in place of hair, and golden sap flowing through their veins.

The Sylvari’s youth directly translates into a curiosity about all things and a desire to learn. The sylvari are spawned fully-formed, and they learn much of what they need to survive through dreams while they grow within the Pale Tree. As the sylvari are closely attuned to nature, they are fervently aware of the threat posed by Zhaitan and his forces.
