Release Date and Details

The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Edition release date is scheduled this coming September 9, 2016 which will be available for both PC and consoles. It’s been just over two years since the Elder Scrolls Online launched, and since then there’s been plenty of contents adding, including four major expansions. Picking up the title now and buying all that in-game content could prove a little expensive, but Bethesda has made it all a bit easier by announcing the ESO Gold Edition.

The ESO Gold Edition is basically a repackage of the game. It consists of the base game with the addition of four major DLC packs making it possible for players to have unparalleled ESO gameplay experience.

The bundled DLC expansions are: the Imperial City expansion (which adds new collectibles, a new PVP dungeon and more), Thieves Guild (allowing players to become a member of the pick-pocketing group), Dark Brotherhood (which introduces the group of highly-trained assassins) and Orisinium (an expansion which adds over 20 hours of story content). The ESO Gold Edition will also feature a new mount. The Palomino horse will be available to players, along with new locations, quests and abilities. Players will likewise be given 500 crowns for in-game purchases in the Crown Store.

Pricing of the Package

The Gold Edition package will cost $60 and will be available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. What is currently unclear is whether there will be an easy path to upgrade for existing ESO players who would like to save money on buying expansions of the Gold Edition. It’s also unclear whether or not Bethesda will offer some sort of temporary discount on expansions to offset the pricing and any complaints from existing players that they are being treated unfairly.

During Bethesda's E3 press conference, developer Zenimax announced it would open the game's entire world to all players. The update — called One Tamriel — was designed to remove all content barriers from the game.

The Gold Edition does not appear to include the ESO’s Shadows of the Hist DLC pack, which is the new DLC slated for an August release. Multiple smaller DLC packs will continue to be released. Player housing is expected to be added in the first quarter of next year.

Sustained Improvements of the ESO

Over the past 18 months, Bethesda has made several major changes to the Elder Scrolls Online designed to draw even more players to the fantasy MMO. In January of last year, the game ditched its subscription model (allowing players to pay once to gain access to the title forever) and opting to rely more heavily upon microtransactions for revenue. Just last month, the title’s “One Tamriel” update was also revealed, with the entire game world set to become accessible to every player regardless of their level.

Both moves to improve the Elder Scrolls online gameplay were well-received by gamers. The game now boasts of more than 7 million players, a figure that is expected to further rise with the coming introduction of the ESO Gold Edition.
