10 Recommended Add-Ons for the Elder Scrolls Online

By Delia Woolf2016-08-30

Add-Ons are awesome. They allow for players, developers and members of the ESO community to make and share useful tools which can enhance your ESO experience, make life a little easier, automate some mundane tasks and display a lot of useful information, stats and resources.

Add-Ons themselves are not made by ZOS, the developers of the Elder Scrolls Online, but are made by other people, most often other players. ZOS allows the use of Add-Ons and supplies the API which developers can use to make Add-Ons. Add-Ons are only available to PC players and at this time no plans are in place to allow Add-Ons on the console version of ESO. The API that ZOS provides is designed to allow the use of convenience and display Add-Ons but not performance enhancing or “cheat” Add-Ons so that players without Add-Ons can still compete.

How to install Elder Scrolls Online add-ons

Start by navigating to My Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live. You'll see an Add-Ons folder—unsurprisingly, you drop add-ons (in their own folders) into the Add-Ons folder. When you run ESO, there's a convenient menu called Add-Ons, and anything you've added to the folder should be enabled automatically. Just keep in mind every variant of the word "add-on" and you're golden.

You can manage all your add-ons and tools from the special Management screen. It’s easy to find it: go to character select screen and find “Add-Ons” button in the upper left side (under “Options” button).

The screen allows users to enable, disable and remove installed tools. There is also a special filter that allows the management of add-ons for all characters or for a specific character. This allows users to create custom tool sets for different classes and play-types. It’s a comfortable solution. For example you can enable Alchemist tool for your Sorcerer only and other characters will not be able to use it.

Useful Add-Ons

There are a lot of Add-Ons available and they can perform a number of different functions. It is important to remember that some Add-Ons can harm your game performance in certain situations. If you are having performance problems you should first try to disable your Add-Ons to check if they are causing the problem. Here are some of the best Add-Ons and their functions.

1.Foundry Tactical Combat

This mod is essential. It adds significantly more combat data, including floating damage text, low health, magicka, and stamina notices, and simpler bars. I can't go back to the vanilla combat interface after using it. I need floating numbers.

You can see attack types, exactly how much damage attacks are doing, and have constant access to XP status and moveable HUD features.

2. Framework

Another essential mod—don't even start playing without Wykkyds Framework. The package adds a ton of UI options and the fantastic Bazgrim's Toolbar, which displays the current time, framerate, location, XP to next level, inventory space, gold, and more. It's all stuff you'd otherwise have to slog over to the menu to see, and that kind of inconvenience leads to starving horses.

3. Full Immersion

This add-on requires Wykkyds Framework, but has the opposite effect. Full Immersion adds options to remove UI elements, including the reticle, with a keystroke. It's great for taking screenshots, or to role-play as a lost amnesiac who has absolutely no information about herself or her environment.

Strangely shoehorned in, but handy, is an emote selector in the chat-box. It's only useful until you've memorized all the emotes, but there are a ton.

4. Advanced Filters

Advanced Filters is one of those must-have inventory management mods. Quite simply, it just adds detailed filters to allow you to sort your items by category – making it incredibly easy to find exactly what you’re looking for in the sea of crap that always manages to fill up an active adventurer’s bags. Why ESO doesn’t support these filters natively is beyond us – but thankfully, Advanced Filters gets the job done so well that I really don’t mind.

5. Dressing-Room

Many would argue that Dressing-Room is perhaps the best gear/skill profile management add-on available, and we tend to agree. Dressing-Room allows you to save eight separate gear and skill profiles and toggle between them instantly with a single click, making it incredibly easy to switch builds on the fly. Whether you want to use it to swap between builds or just to change your appearance for roleplaying scenarios, Dressing-Room is certainly a must-have ESO add-on.

6. ESO Master Recipe List

Every player should make an effort to level their Provisioning profession, if for no other reason than the passives skills are really useful. If you’re someone who plans to actually spend time using your provisioning to make food and drinks, or if you’re just a crazy completionist, you should definitely install ESO Master Recipe List. This add-on does exactly what its name implies, it adds a master list containing every recipe in the game to your UI. It also helps you keep track of every recipe that you’ve learned, and lets you add an indicator on recipes you loot or find in Guild Stores to notify you whether you still need to learn it.

7. Advanced UI

Advanced UI (AUI) does a lot of things – but at the end of the day, it’s just a really solid UI modification add-on. This mod offers a great mini-map, a fantastic action bar tweak that allows you to more easily swap between your quickslots, customizable unit frames, combat statistics, and a fairly solid buff & debuff tracker. Whether you’re looking to use every module or just one, AUI is a great tool for any player, and is certainly worth taking a look at.

8. Disabling the intro videos

I don't have anywhere else to be but hunched over my keyboard mashing Assassin's Blade at dull-faced bandits, but I'll be damned if I have to wait to get there. ESO is pretty swift about dropping players off in Tamriel, but not before a stop at the logo viewing theater.

To skip them, close the game and launcher, navigate to Users\ [username]\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live and open "User Settings.txt" in Notepad. Search for "Skip Pregame Videos." It's set to 0. That's all wrong. Flip it to 1 and save.

9. Crafting Simulator

Part of the fun of crafting is discovering what different ingredients do by trial and error. Another part of the fun is just making the thing you wanted to make. The Crafting Simulator over at ESO Head lets you experiment out of game, as well as discover new and interesting facts about the history of reclining men.

10. Skill Calculator

Assigning skill points is the most harrowing thing you'll do—not just in ESO, but in life. If you'd kept practicing at that acoustic guitar, for instance, you could be that annoying party guest who brings his acoustic guitar by now. What a shame.

Fortunately, ESO is not life, so you can fiddle around with skills to find your optimal self. Another tool from ESO Head, Skill Calculator is an essential time sink for when you aren't sinking your time into the game itself.

For more add-ons and the like, head to ESOUI —if you couldn't tell, it's our current favorite site for ESO downloads. It doesn't require a log in, and doesn't make you play "find the download button that doesn't go to a porn site."

Some Advice

There are different types of add-ons in Elder Scrolls Online. Some don’t give any advantages in the game, such as UI modifications. But others may aid in game, such as map add-ons or quest guides. They don’t influence balance but sometimes help in finishing quests and therein leveling faster. It’s your choice whether to use such tools or not.

Developers have said that one of their goals was to make an expansive world where you could explore different areas finding interesting places and quests. That’s why the mini-map that was in early versions of the game was replaced with a compass. Why they chose to include the compass was due to players paying too much attention to the mini-map and being out of touch with the world around them. Similarly this may happen if you pay too much attention to using your add-ons. Don’t allow them to steal the joy of exploration.

If you don't have enough time to level your character, you can buy ESO Gold (ESO Gold Kaufen) to speed up your level. Just like other MMO’s, ESO Gold can help players to play more smoothly. We can use ESO Gold to purchase not only gear and weapons, but also awesome items in game. Of course, you can buy ESO Gold right here in MmoGah.COM, since it’s a so reliable ESO Gold seller that more and more players chose to buy ESO Gold from. Whenever you need to buy ESO Gold, our Live Chat is 24/7 online.
