By Ansley2023-07-20

Diablo 4, the latest installment in Blizzard’s popular action-RPG franchise, launched its first season on July 20, 2023. Season 1, also known as Season of the Malignant, introduces a new storyline, a new Battle Pass system, and a slew of balance changes and bug fixes. But perhaps the most exciting feature of Season 1 is the addition of six new Unique items and seven new Legendary Aspects that can enhance your character’s build and gameplay.

What are Unique items and Legendary Aspects?

Unique items are powerful weapons and armor with special properties and effects that cannot be found on other items. They are usually very rare and can only be obtained by defeating elite enemies or completing certain challenges. Unique items are marked by a golden name and icon in your inventory.

Legendary Aspects are passive skills that modify your character’s abilities or behavior in some way. They are unlocked by completing certain milestones in the seasonal journey, which is a set of objectives that track your progress throughout the season. Legendary Aspects are marked by a purple name and icon in your skill tree.

What are the new Unique items and Legendary Aspects in Season 1?

Season 1 adds six new Unique items, one for each class and one that can be used by any class. They are:

•  Ahavarion, Spear of Lycander (Uber Unique Staff – Class: Any): Gains a random Shrine effect for 10-20 seconds after defeating an Elite enemy once every 30 seconds. This is an extremely rare drop that can provide you with various buffs depending on the Shrine effect you get.

•  Azurewrath (Unique Sword – Class: Barbarian): Your Core Skills have up to a 20% chance to Freeze enemies for 3 seconds and deal 0.75-1.5 Cold damage to them. This is a great weapon for Barbarians who want to add some crowd control and elemental damage to their attacks.

•  Fleshrender (Unique One-Handed Mace – Class: Druid): Debilitating Roar and Blood Howl deal 0.5-1.0 damage to Nearby Poisoned enemies. This is a useful weapon for Druids who want to increase their damage output against enemies affected by their poison skills.

•  Lidless Wall (Unique Shield – Class: Necromancer): While you have an active Bone Storm, hitting an enemy outside of a Bone Storm has up to a 5-25% chance to spawn an additional Bone Storm at their location. Each of your active Sacrifice bonuses increases the chance by 25% and the total number of additional Bone Storms you can have by +1. This is a powerful shield for Necromancers who want to create more chaos and destruction with their Bone Storm skill.

•  Eaglehorn (Unique Bow – Class: Rogue): Penetrating Shot has a 30-80% chance to fire an arrow that bounces off walls and scenery. Hitting enemies from behind with Penetrating Shot will make them Vulnerable for 3 seconds. This is a fun weapon for Rogues who want to take advantage of the environment and deal more damage to unsuspecting foes.

•  The Oculus (Unique Wand – Class: Sorcerer): Gain the effect of the Teleport Enchantment for free. When you Evade using Teleport Enchantment, you are taken to a random location. This is a risky but rewarding weapon for Sorcerers who want to add some unpredictability and mobility to their gameplay.

Season 1 also adds seven new Legendary Aspects, one for each class and two that can be used by any class. They are:

•  Audacity (Utility Aspect – Class: Any): When there are at least 5 Close enemies, Stun them for 2-4 seconds. This can only occur once every 20 seconds. This is a handy Aspect for any class that wants to have some extra crowd control and survivability in close combat situations.

•  Craven (Mobility Aspect – Class: Any): You gain 20-40% increased Movement Speed when moving away from Slowed or Chilled enemies. This is a useful Aspect for any class who wants to have some extra mobility and escape options when facing enemies who can slow or chill them.

•  Ancestral Charge (Offensive Aspect – Class: Barbarian): Charge calls forth 4 Ancients who also Charge, dealing 50-100% of normal damage. This is an awesome Aspect for Barbarians who want to summon some allies and deal more damage with their Charge skill.

•  Subterranean (Offensive Aspect – Class: Druid): Poison Creeper’s active also casts Landslide in a circle around you. Earth Skills deal 10-20% increased damage to Poisoned enemies. This is an effective Aspect for Druids who want to combine their poison and earth skills and deal more damage to poisoned enemies.

•  Gore Quills (Offensive Aspect – Class: Necromancer): Blood Lance will consume Blood Orbs to also conjure lances from them. Each additional Blood Lance deals 20-50% of normal damage and prioritizes targeting un-lanced enemies. This is a potent Aspect for Necromancers who want to unleash more lances and deal more damage with their Blood Lance skill.

•  Pestilent Points (Offensive Aspect – Class: Rogue): Every third cast of Puncture is Poison Imbued with 100-150% of normal potency. This is a lethal Aspect for Rogues who want to add some poison damage and effects to their Puncture skill.

•  Searing Wards (Offensive Aspect – Class: Sorcerer): After spending 100-200 Mana your next Firewall is free to cast and will destroy incoming Small Missiles. This is a fiery Aspect for Sorcerers who want to cast more Firewalls and protect themselves from enemy projectiles.

How can I get the new Unique items and Legendary Aspects in Season 1?

The new Unique items can only be found in World Tier IV, which is the highest difficulty level in Diablo 4. You need to reach level 70 and complete the main story campaign to unlock World Tier IV. Then, you need to defeat elite enemies or complete certain challenges to get the new Unique items as drops. The drop rate is very low, so you may need to farm a lot of enemies or repeat the challenges multiple times to get the item you want.

The new Legendary Aspects can be obtained from any World Tier in Season 1. You need to complete certain milestones in the seasonal journey, which is a set of objectives that track your progress throughout the season. You can view the seasonal journey by pressing J on your keyboard, opening the menu, and selecting Seasonal Journey. The seasonal journey has four chapters, each with ten objectives. Completing an objective will reward you with experience, Diablo 4 gold, or other items. Completing all ten objectives in a chapter will reward you with a new Legendary Aspect. You can only equip one Legendary Aspect at a time, so you must choose it wisely which suits your build and playstyle best.
