Trace of Echoes is one of the hardest items to obtain in Diablo 4 Season 15. Its extremely low drop rate has made it a frustrating obstacle for players working to complete their Season Journey. Finding one can take considerable time, even after countless Elite Monster kills. The right Diablo 4 items can make repeated farming runs faster and easier, even if they don't improve the drop rate.

This guide covers the item's purpose, where it drops, and practical ways to farm it more efficiently.

Best Places to Farm Trace of Echoes

What Is Trace of Echoes Used For?

Trace of Echoes is a rare item used to unlock Echoing Hatred, an endgame survival challenge in Diablo 4. After obtaining one, players can offer it to the Sightless Eye in Temis to enter an arena filled with increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Surviving longer brings greater rewards.

Echoing Hatred is also tied to Season Journey progression in Season 15, making Trace of Echoes particularly valuable for players aiming to complete their seasonal objectives.

Best Places to Farm Trace of Echoes

The following locations are worth exploring when farming Trace of Echoes, with different options depending on the activity and preferred farming style.

1. Helltides – Best Starting Point

Helltides are the first place worth trying when farming Trace of Echoes. A recorded drop came from a Helltide Harbinger while a Blood Maiden summon was being prepared. The enemy was a large, dinosaur-like Elite resembling Lister the Tormentor.

Helltides have also received plenty of attention in Reddit discussions, with several players reporting Trace of Echoes drops during the event.

The main advantage of farming Helltides is the opportunity to encounter Elite Monsters while participating in other activities. Helltide Harbingers are particularly worth targeting, given the recorded drop.

Recommended Helltides farming method:

● Enter an active Helltides zone and look for Elite Monsters.

● Hunt Helltide Harbingers whenever they appear.

● Join Blood Maiden events and kill nearby Elites.

● Continue searching for Elite encounters rather than focusing on opening Helltide Chests.

2. Escalation Nightmare Dungeons – Farm Elites Along the Route

Escalation Nightmare Dungeons are another location with a recorded Trace of Echoes drop.

The first recorded copy appeared inside Whispering Vault at Paragon 212 on Torment 12. It dropped from a random Elite Monster rather than a dungeon boss. This makes Escalation Nightmare Dungeons a useful alternative, especially when combined with regular dungeon farming

Recommended approach:

● Run Escalation Nightmare Dungeons and clear Elite Monsters encountered along the way.

● Include Whispering Vault when available.

● Avoid rushing past Elite packs simply to finish the dungeon faster.

3. Whimsyshire – Target Yellow Elite Monsters

Whimsyshire is another location where Trace of Echoes has dropped. The recorded drop came from a yellow Elite Monster at Paragon 300 on Torment 12.

Unlike Helltides, where Helltide Harbingers and Blood Maiden encounters provide obvious targets, the approach in Whimsyshire is simply to find and kill yellow Elite Monsters.

Recommended approach:

● Search for yellow Elite Monsters and defeat them.

● Prioritize Elite kills over collecting other rewards.

● Avoid spending extra time searching Clouds when Trace of Echoes is the main target.

4. Kurast Undercity and Infernal Hordes – Additional Options

Kurast Undercity and Infernal Hordes have also been mentioned as possible Trace of Echoes farming locations. Although neither activity appears among the three recorded drops, both may provide additional opportunities while progressing through other content.

● Kurast Undercity: Focus on clearing Elite Monsters encountered during runs. This is a reasonable alternative when farming other rewards alongside Trace of Echoes.

● Infernal Hordes: Continue regular runs and pay attention to Elite Monster drops. Community reports suggest that Trace of Echoes may also be obtainable here.

These two activities are better treated as secondary options until more reliable drop information becomes available.

5. Keys Caches – Another Chance to Obtain Trace of Echoes

Keys Caches from Whispers also have a small chance to contain Trace of Echoes, according to the Season 15 patch notes. Although the chance is low, these caches provide another way to obtain the item without relying entirely on Elite Monster drops.
