Chaos Rifts, Infernal Hordes, and How to Drown in Loot
Season 10 of Diablo IV is here, and if you’re not swimming in Uniques, Greater Affix gear, and Obducite, you’re doing it wrong. The loot faucet is wide open — you just need to know where to turn the handle.
This guide lists the best loot sources, how to farm them efficiently, and why Chaos Rifts are your new religion.
Step 1: Craft Nightmare Sigils with Chaos Rifts
Head straight to the Occultist and start crafting Nightmare Sigils. Your goal? Look for sigils that roll with Chaos Rifts — doesn’t matter if they’re from Nahantu or Sanctuary.
Why Chaos Rifts Are Loot Heaven:
- Multiple rifts per dungeon (10–20 in some runs)
- Guaranteed loot drops:
- Uniques
- Greater Affix gear
- Infernal Compasses
- Crafting materials (Forgotten Souls)
- Reputation farming from each rift and boss
- Massive Infernal Warp gains (up to 1,000 per run)
- Mythical Chaos Rifts can drop 6–7 chaotic Uniques in one go
Pro Tip: Chaos Rift bosses and monsters hit hard. Don’t sleepwalk through — dodge the death waves or get deleted.
Step 2: Convert Infernal Warp Into Reputation
Infernal Warp is your currency for buying Warp Scrolls from Shyan. Each scroll grants a fat chunk of faction reputation — way more than you’d expect.
Example:
- Before scroll: 7,895 Viz Jaq’taar rep
- After scroll: 13,000+
That’s how you fast-track the Reputation Board, unlock Resplendent Caches, and get bonus loot multipliers from your factions.
Step 3: Run Infernal Warp Reserves (Bonus Warp & Obducite)
These dungeons are Diablo 4 goldmines for Infernal Warp, but only if you’re paying attention.
- Open Infernal Chests along the way
- Each chest = ~80 Warp
- Easy to miss if you’re tunnel-visioning for Chaos Rifts
Don’t autopilot. Watch for big chests off-path and sweep the zone for hidden Warp.
Step 4: Master Infernal Hordes – Especially 8-Wave Runs
If Chaos Rifts are the king, Infernal Hordes are the crown prince of loot.
- Always run the 8-wave version
- Minimum 666 Aether guaranteed
- Best done in Torment I for early-game loot
- Defeat Bartuc for permanent power upgrades (e.g., Savagery, Chaos Unleashed)
How to Supercharge Your Aether Gains:
- Prioritize Aetheric Masses: These spawn enemies on death, which can escalate into:
- Aether Fiends → Aether Lords → 20+ Aether each
- Teeming Masses + Spawn-on-Death = Broken
- Soulspires: Only worth it if you roll Hungry Spires, which pull enemies in and stack Aether from death explosions
The right modifiers can turn a standard horde run into an Aether bonanza. Example: 753 Aether in one run without even being optimized.
Step 5: Loot Pinata – Boss Drops and Spoils of Greater Equipment
When you kill Bartuc, you’re not just getting Aether — you’re opening the loot floodgates.
- Guaranteed 2+ Greater Affix items in Diablo 4
- Multiple Uniques
- Chance at Chaotic Uniques
- 500 spare Aether? Spend it on Spoils of Greater Equipment — guaranteed top-tier rolls
Bartuc’s loot table is busted in the best way. Kill him fast to avoid mechanics and profit.
Step 6: Don’t Sleep on Helltides & Tree of Whispers
Chaos Rifts in Helltides
- Can roll Mythical Chaos Rifts
- Loot jackpot if you find one
- Watch your mini-map for them
Tree of Whispers
- Still drops Dungeon Keys
- Prioritize:
- Greater Collection of Chaos
- Defensive gear caches (Helms, Chests, Pants, etc.)
- Occasionally, it is worth taking weapon caches if Affixes are guaranteed
Chaotic Uniques can completely flip your build, so chase them wherever possible.
Final Tips for Loot Efficiency
- Speed matters – blast through Diablo 4 Boost dungeons fast, but don’t skip side chests or hidden rifts.
- Chaos Rifts > All – if you see one, run it.
- Track Mythical Chaos Rifts – the drop rate is low, but the rewards are insane.
- Reputation = more loot – dump your Infernal Warp into scrolls and cash out.
