Diablo 2: Resurrected is a remastered version of the quintessential action RPG Diablo II and an expansion of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. It continues the popular fantasy themes of pursuing the mysterious Dark Wanderer and fighting the denizens of hell, also uncovering the fate of Prime Evils Diablo. And, as we all know, it will be released in 2021 by Blizzard Entertainment, building on the success of its predecessor - Diablo II, which is one of the greatest video games ever made. And it supports multiple platforms of Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Nintendo Switch.
Since Blizzard published the news of remastering the game, a heated discussion has been aroused among gamers. When exactly is it going to be released? Whether Diablo II Resurrected can continue the glory of Diablo II? And, how will the dark fantasy and horror themes continue as before? All of these leave a lot of room for expectation. At the same time, it’s also going to be a huge challenge because it will face two different types of players – a diehard fan of Diablo II and a beginner who has never played Diablo II before. Then it means that the game must preserve the nostalgic feel for a diehard fan and have an attraction for a beginner better than other RPG games.
How to Preserve the Nostalgic Feel?
Once we accepted something, our stereotypes would be hard to change. Then, once we like the past Diablo II, how can we change feeling to enjoy the new Diablo II: Resurrected? With the question, if we were the developers, what should we do? Fortunately, we don’t have to think about this dilemma. As far as we know, the game will have a button of the legacy toggle, by which we can enjoy the original Diablo II, old-school-style, whenever.
How to Connect with Its Predecessor?
Diablo II: Resurrected will inherit the predecessor’s seven playable classes of Amazon, Assassin, Necromancer, Barbarian, Paladin, Sorceress, Druid. And it also has access to 30 unique skills. However, in the Technical Alpha – the first multiple tests, only three classes – Amazon, Barbarian, Sorceress can be tested. But in the upcoming testing phase, other classes will be contained. Although there is no mention of Diablo II: Resurrected item, we still should pay attention to it because the diablo 2 item is an important part of Diablo II.
How to Attract New Players?
1. Planned Feature – Cross-Progression
It will support cross-progression among the different platforms.
2. Exhumed Gameplay Features.
(1) Revamped Ladder Seasons.
(2) Redesigned User Interface.
(3) Expanded Stash.
3. Cooperative Gameplay Feature.
Diablo II: Resurrected features cooperative gameplay supporting up to eight players, and each player also has access to one mercenary.
Currently, we only have a rough idea of the game. How is it going to evolve? Stay tuned to MmoGah and let’s find out together.
