Which NPC Guilds to Join in ESO

By Michel Z2023-03-25

NPC Guilds are non-player-run guilds. There are six NPC Guilds in The Elder Scrolls Online: Fighters Guild, Mages Guild, Undaunted Guild, Psijic Order, Dark Brotherhood, and Thieves Guild. Three are available with the base game, and the others require DLCs or Chapters.

Joining different guilds allows players to access different skill lines. Since there are six choices, many players may have no idea about which guild is the best one to join. Which guild is easy to gain XP, and which requires grinding? Which guild helps you most, and which provides the best money maker? You will find the answers in Jakeclips's guide.

Fighters Guild

You can join by walking into the Fighters Guild in any starter zone. This guild grants helpful abilities, and below are some of the best Fighters Guild skills that you would need:

Trap Beast is one of the most useful skills for PvE content.

Slayer pairs well with Dawnbreaker when you play PvP.

Intimidating Presence is useful for people who like doing quests: It allows you to use intimidation options in conversation, reducing the legwork in some quests. It also gives you exclusive rewards for certain quest lines.

Banish the Wicked generates Ultimate when you kill an enemy.

Skilled Trackers works against player Vampires and Werewolves.

Bounty Hunter allows you to accept bounty quests inside of Cyrodiil.

Dawnbreaker, as a hard-hitting Ultimate skill, allows you to deal a huge Physical Damage to enemies and stun them, and it only costs 106 Ultimate.

Leveling Fighters Guild is helpful and pretty easy: You only need to kill undead things passively to gain experience, so it is an excellent NPC Guild for everyone in ESO.

DID YOU KNOW?

MmoGah is one of the best places to buy ESO gold coins. Using code: ESO, you will get 5% off your coin purchase.

Mages Guild

It's easy to join the Mages Guild, and only after you join the guild can you see Lorebooks, which add points to your Mages Guild. People who have good relations with the Mages Guild will get a significant benefit, especially from the skills such as Mage Adept, Everlasting Magic, Magicka Controller, and Might of the Guild.

Entropy works better in PvE content as it binds an enemy with chaotic magic, dealing Magic Damage over 20 seconds.

Persuasive Will allows you to Persuade NPCs in conversation.

Inner Light grants Major Savagery and Prophecy, increasing your Weapon and Spell Critical rating by 2629, and your Max Magicka is increased by 5%.

Mage Adept reduces the Magicka and Health cost of your Mages Guild abilities by 15%.

Everlasting Magic increases the duration of your Mages Guild abilities by 20%.

Magicka Controller increases your Max Magicka and Magicka Recovery by 2% for each Mages Guild ability slotted, meaning it can stack with the Inner Light ability for extra Max Magicka.

Might of the Guild grants you Empower, increasing the damage of your Heavy Attacks against monsters by 80% for 10 seconds.

If you play on PC, it's recommended to use Add-ons when searching for Lorebooks scattered in Tamriel. Besides Lorebooks, Mages Guild daily quests is another good way to level up your Mages Guild, and it's also the way to level up your Companion Guild Lines.

Undaunted Guild

The Undaunted recruiters are located in Davon's watch in Stonefalls, Daggerfall in Glenumbra, and Vulkhel Guard in Auridon. You will also be invited once you reach level 45, and it is highly recommended to take this quest because you will get a free Undaunted key.

The Undaunted Guild is great for people who love tanking or throwing out synergies. There are two Passives that are widely regarded as must-have ones: Undaunted Command and Undaunted Mettle.

Undaunted Command allows you to regain Health, Magicka, and Stamina when activating a synergy ability.

Undaunted Mettle increases your Health, Magicka, and Stamina when wearing different types of armor.

Doing daily pledges is the best way to level up your Undaunted Guild. Completing a normal or veteran mode pledge will reward you with a key while completing a veteran hard mode pledge rewards two keys and more Undaunted experience.

Glirion the Redbeard gives the easiest dungeon task. Maj al-Ragath gives similar but sometimes a little more difficult tasks. As for the Urgarlag Chief-bane, it's not recommended to do his dungeon tasks on hard mode, such as Lair of Maarselok.

Psijic Order

Players can access to Psijic Order Guild via the Summerset Chapter. It is one of the easier guilds to join because all you have to do is to progress the Summerset storyline. This NPC Guild also grants useful skills but is not as necessary as the Fighters Guild. Below are some of the best skills from the Psijic Order skill line:

Temporal Guard is a good skill for PvP as it gives Minor Protection while slotted.

Elemental Weapon is helpful for both PvE and PvP content.

Channeled Acceleration increases Movement Speed by 30%, which is a great skill for Classes that normally don't have a faster speed.

Mend Wounds is good for Healing.

Meditate heals you and restores your Magicka and Stamina.

Even if you have no intention of using any of the Psijic Order skills, it is still highly recommended to activate its Passive skills, such as See the Unseen, Spell Orb, Concentrated Barrier, and Deliberation.

See the Unseen Passive allows you to see Psijic Portals and interact with them.

Spell Orb will be helpful when you use elemental weapons.

Concentrated Barrier is a good PvP back-bar skill, as it gives you access to a free damage shield that recharges after 10 seconds.

Deliberation reduces your damage taken by 30% while you are casting or channeling a Psijic Order ability. So it is also good to use with elemental weapons.

Leveling Psijic Order is not difficult if you follow a guide. But the process is tedious for many people.

Dark Brotherhood

Dark Brotherhood is rated as players' favorite NPC Guild in ESO, and the popular costume, Cadaverous Assassin Polymorph, is also an Achievement reward of the Dark Brotherhood. Most importantly, this guild offers some cool and interesting abilities, such as Blade of Woe – a skill that allows you to assassinate NPC targets and steal from them.

Blade of Woe lets you instantly kill an NPC target

Scales of Pitiless Justice reduces the Bounty and Heat resulting from a witnessed Murder or Assault.

Padomaic Sprint grants Major Expedition, increasing your Movement Speed by 30% for 12 seconds after killing an enemy with Blade of Woe.

Shadowy Supplier causes Brotherhood member, Remains-Silent to appear, and she will provide you with useful items, including the Antiquity lead for the Gaze of Sithis.

Shadow Rider decreases the aggression radius from hostile monsters by 50% while mounted.

Spectral Assassin has a 15% chance to shroud you when using the Blade of Woe, shielding you from being witnessed and receiving a Bounty.

Leveling up Dark Brotherhood Guild is not as horrible as the Mages Guild and Psijic Order. However, it is not a pretty fun process because you still have to do daily quests to level up to the point where you can get a new main story mission, which will be tied to the overworld zone story quest of the Gold Coast.

Thieves Guild

To access the Thieves Guild, you need to own Hew's Bane DLC. The benefit this guild offers can be nice, but you may not need this guild on all of your characters.

Swiftly Forgotten, Clemency, Timely Escape, and Veil of Shadows are worth getting for all your characters because they reduce your Bounty or allow you to escape from guards. But skills like Haggling are not worth spending time on leveling: Halling increases the value of stolen items sold at a fence by 10%. But it is not as useful as the Trafficker skill (Legerdemain skill line), which increases the number of fence interactions you can use each day.

A big reason for having Thieves Guild and its skills is the Heist Board. The Heists are great daily quests that can be a decent money maker in ESO. However, you don't need to do that on multiple characters because the Thieves Guild can be tedious to level up. Although this NPC Guild grants some nice titles and Furnishing items, it's recommended to do it on only one character.

Those are the pros and cons of each NPC Guild of The Elder Scrolls Online. We hope the guide can help you when deciding which guild to join. If you have your own opinion, please leave your comments under Jakeclips's video on YouTube.
