By Shirley Huang2019-01-15

We have introduced wow gathering professions last month. Today mmogah will talk about what to do with the materials you have gathered: Crafting.

Crafting include eight professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, Tailoring, Jewelcrafting & Inscription, and a crafter has lots of options to choose the best professions.

Alchemy

Alchemy is mostly used to create your own potions, elixirs and flasks, which can provide a temporary power increase to whoever consumes them. An alchemist's most skills providing buffs for anyone using his brews:

Potions provide an immediate benefit (such as restoring your health);

Elixirs provide buffs for an extended period of time;

Flasks provide buffs that last through death.

Alchemist’s main material is Herb that gathered from Herbalism profession. If you have Alchemy profession but have not Herbalism, you should purchase or receive your herbs from other sources.

Blacksmithing

Blacksmithing is mostly used to create Plate armor for Paladins, Death Knights and Warriors.

You can still create Plate armor to sell if your character is a different class, but you can’t able to equip it.

Blacksmithing is best paired with Mining. If you have Blacksmithing profession but have not Mining, you should purchase or obtain your ore from other sources.

Blacksmithing can help you create your own armor as you advance through the game if you're a plate-wearing class, including some decent gears can give you a good raiding start. But you will get few benefit if you don't wear plate armor.

Enchanting

Enchanting is mostly used to enhance gear’s pieces to provide extra attributes.

Enchanters use Shards and Dust (the main material) to enchant items. Shards and dust are obtain when disenchanting a piece of gear and destroying it.

Enchanting doesn't need any particular gathering profession, but many players combine it with Tailoring and Disenchant the goods they craft.

You'll need a Runed Copper Rod that you can craft by yourself to enchant items, and then you'll use various items to enchant.

Both enchanting and disenchanting can be in high demand at high levels, since players look for enchanters to enchant their own gears or disenchant their unneeded items. Additionally, disenchanted items are valuable on the auction house for making money.

Engineering

Engineering is the most entertaining profession in the game.

It can create random items, such as portable mailboxes, portable repair bots, and teleportation devices. Engineers can enhance items to provide various effects, such as speed boosts and invisibility.

Engineers’ primary materials are ore and stones that obtained from Mining to create items. If you have Engineering profession but have not Mining, you should purchase or obtain the primary materials from other sources.

Leatherworking

Leatherworking is mostly used to create leather and mail armor out of animal skins, used by Druids, Monks, Rogues, Shamans and Hunters. If you wear leather or mail armor, then leatherworking will be a useful way to create your own gear as you level up. Some gears will give you a good start on doing dungeons and raids at higher levels.

Leatherworker’s primary material is leather that obtained from Skinning. If you have Leatherworking profession but have not Skinning, you should purchase or obtain the leather from other sources.

Tailoring

Tailoring is used to create cloth armor for Mages, Warlocks and Priests. Cloth armors are bags, magic carpets and other cloth items. If you're a cloth-wearer, this is a good profession to help gear yourself up as you advance. You can take it with a gathering profession to make some extra cash, it requires no particular companion profession.

Tailor’s primary material is cloth. Cloth can be found from looting many types of enemy monsters.

Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafting is mostly used to create gems, necklaces and rings. Some weapons or pieces of armor have a gem socket. Gems created by a Jewel crafter can be inserted into the gem sockets to provide increased power.

Cut gems are useful to socket your own gear but can also be worth selling to others or giving to friends or guild mates. Additionally, the trinkets and gems can be a nice buff.

The primary materials used by Jewel crafters are ore and stones obtained from Mining. If you have Jewelcrafting profession but have not Mining, you should purchase or obtain your ore and stones from other sources.

Inscription

Inscription is used to create glyphs. Glyphs can provide extra abilities, or enhancements to existing abilities to players.

Anybody can use glyphs, but only those who have learned Inscription are able to create glyphs. Scribes turn herbs into inks which are used to craft scrolls, glyphs, Darkmoon cards and epic items.

Inscription’s primary material is herb obtained from Herbalism.

You should consider the factors in choosing professions

Check your character’s race has any natural Profession Bonuses. You can see it in your spellbook, if your character’s race grants a profession bonus. Press P, and you will see a list of abilities on your screen.

All eligible races automatically have the bonus, and you no need to activate it.

The races have profession bonuses as below.

Draenei - Jewelcrafting

Gnome - Engineering

Worgen - Skinning

Blood Elf - Enchanting

Goblin - Alchemy

Tauren - Herbalism

Pandaren - Cooking

Humans, Night Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Trolls and Undead do not have any racial profession bonuses.

All the racial bonuses are for primary professions, except for Pandaren.

Consider the Armor type used by your character’s class. Most of the professions produce items or gather materials that support all classes equally.

There are 4 types of armor in the game: Cloth, Leather, Mail and Plate. Each class has a preferred type of armor. If you are leveling a profession to create gears for yourself, you could choose the profession that supports your character’s class.

It is important to choose the best professions, so this guide is fit for you.
