With World of Warcraft Patch 12.1 just around the corner, players are running out of time to wrap up Season 1 objectives. This transition is bringing a massive reset, including the removal of limited-time rewards, achievements, and progression systems. If you want to enter Season 2 fully prepared—and without regrets—here’s a complete breakdown of what you should prioritize before the patch goes live. The content is from Kelani’s YouTube channel.

WoW Patch 12.1 Prep Guide: Everything You Must Do Before Season 2 Begins

Complete the Patch 12.0.7 Campaign Quests First

One of the most important tasks right now is finishing the new story quests introduced in Patch 12.0.7. You can begin this questline by speaking with Orweyna in Silvermoon City. Look for the quest “Hagar’s Invitation”, which starts the chain. These quests dive deeper into the lore of the Amani Trolls and uncover hidden horrors from the past. However, they’re not just optional storytelling—they are actually the first chapter of the Patch 12.1 campaign. If you skip them now, you’ll be forced to complete them later before accessing the new zone and its content. Finishing them early ensures that you can jump straight into Season 2 content the moment it launches.

Unlock All Omnium Folio Talent Rows

No matter your playstyle, completing the Omnium Folio quests is essential. This system unlocks talent rows that provide passive bonuses to damage or healing. While the power gains may seem modest, there are critical reasons to prioritize this:

  • These bonuses persist beyond Season 1
  • They remain active throughout the expansion
  • They provide free power that cannot be obtained elsewhere

New quests unlock weekly, allowing you to gradually open all talent rows. Whether you complete them week-by-week or all at once, the key takeaway is simple: don’t skip them.

Additionally, once completed on one character, the benefits carry over to your alts, saving you time in the long run. Future updates may also expand this system with new runes or talents, making early completion even more valuable.

Secure Limited-Time Seasonal Rewards

Season 1 is packed with rewards that will disappear once Patch 12.1 arrives. If you’ve had your eye on any cosmetics, mounts, or achievements, now is your last chance.

Delve Seasonal Journey Track

The Delve seasonal track will reset completely in Season 2. This means your progress will be wiped and unclaimed rewards will be lost permanently. Review your current progress and farm delves if needed to unlock desired rewards. Some items require purchase from vendors after reaching specific renown levels, so make sure to grab them before prices increase or availability changes. It’s also wise to check all delve vendors and pick up anything valuable before the reset.

Level Up Valeera for Season 2

Preparing for Season 2 isn’t just about rewards—it’s also about efficiency. Leveling Valeera to the Season 1 cap (level 60) is one of the best ways to get ahead. A higher-level Valeera will:

  • Make early Season 2 delves easier
  • Help you push higher tiers faster
  • Accelerate your gear progression

To level her efficiently, take advantage of the daily bonus from your first delve run. Spreading your runs across multiple days can significantly speed up the process.

What You Can Ignore

Valeera’s curios are not worth worrying about right now. They will reset entirely in Season 2, so there’s no benefit in maxing them out before the patch.

Finish Season 1 Nemesis Achievements

All Season 1 Nemesis-related achievements will become unobtainable after the patch. These include:

  • My Shady Nemesis: Defeating Nullaeus for transmog rewards
  • Lighting The Dark: Completing higher difficulty challenges for exclusive titles
  • Let me Solo Him: Nullaeus: Soloing the Nemesis for a unique mount reward

As your gear improves late in the season, these encounters become significantly easier—making now the ideal time to finish them. If you want these rare cosmetics and mounts, don’t delay.

Complete Raid Achievements Before They’re Gone

Raiders should pay close attention—Season 1 raid achievements are also time-limited. You’ll need to defeat final bosses in the Voidspire, Dreamrift and March on Quel'Danas raids to earn Ahead of the Curve achievement (Heroic difficulty) and Cutting Edge achievement (Mythic difficulty). These achievements are only available during Season 1, meaning Patch 12.1 is your final deadline.

Don’t Miss Sporefall Raid Rewards

The Sporefall raid, introduced in Patch 12.0.7, also includes special rewards. Simply clearing a raid on any difficulty grants you a Delicious Sporesnack. With four of them combined, you can get a Luminous Sporeglider mount. If you haven’t explored this raid yet, now is the perfect time to do so before its rewards become harder to obtain or are removed entirely.

Mythic+ Achievements and Rewards You Shouldn’t Miss

Season 1 offers one of the most reward-heavy Mythic+ systems to date, with multiple milestones tied to rating thresholds.

  • 1,500 Rating – Keystone Conqueror achievement + the title “the Umbral”
  • 2,000 Rating – Keystone Master + seasonal mount “Calamitous Carrion”
  • 2,500 Rating – Keystone Hero + “Light of the Party” achievement reward” Gleaming Suunmote” (cosmetic effect item for class sets)
  • 3,000 Rating – Keystone Legend + another mount reward ”Convalescent Carrion”
  • 3,400+ Rating – Keystone Myth achievement + “The Umbral Contender” title + Time-Lost Saddle

The Time-Lost Saddle is especially valuable, as it can be exchanged for mounts from previous Keystone seasons—making it a long-term collectible reward.

Top 1% Competitive Rewards

For high-end players, even more prestigious rewards are available:

  • Top 1% of players earn the Umbral Champion achievement and a unique mount” Umbral Ashes”
  • Top 0.1% unlock the Umbral Hero title and achievement

Dungeon Teleports: Easy but Valuable Rewards

Even if you’re not pushing high Mythic+ ratings, there’s still something extremely useful to grab. Completing each dungeon at Mythic+10 or higher unlocks a teleport spell to that dungeon. While these teleports are less critical once a dungeon leaves the seasonal rotation, they remain incredibly useful for:

  • Fast world travel
  • Future dungeon rotations
  • General convenience across expansions

Since +10 keys are relatively manageable this season, unlocking all dungeon teleports is highly recommended.

Prepare for Season 2 Dungeon Rotation

Season 2 introduces a refreshed Mythic+ dungeon pool, including:

  • Den of Nalorakk
  • Murder Row
  • The Blinding Vale
  • Voidscar Arena
  • Kings’ Rest
  • Ruby Life Pools
  • Temple of Sethraliss
  • New dungeon: Altar of Fangs

If you haven’t played some of these in a while, now is a great time to:

  • Relearn boss mechanics
  • Identify dangerous trash mobs
  • Understand dungeon pacing

For extra preparation, you can also test the new dungeon on the PTR to get a head start before Season 2 begins.

PvP Season 1 Rewards and Deadlines

PvP players also face strict deadlines before Patch 12.1 arrives.

Key Rewards to Secure

  • Gladiator Achievement & Mount – Only available during Season 1
  • Vicious Snaplizard Mounts – Earned through rated PvP wins
  • Elite PvP Transmog Set – Requires 1800 rating
  • Galaxy Weapon Illusion – Unlocks at 1950 rating

All of these rewards are season-exclusive, meaning they will become unobtainable once Season 2 begins.

Prey System Changes in Season 2

Unlike many other systems, the Prey feature will largely carry over into Season 2—with improvements.

  • All hunt targets remain available
  • Killing higher difficulty targets will also grant lower-tier achievements
  • Vendor rewards will still exist, but renown requirements are removed

This means you don’t need to rush Prey-related content now, as it will actually become easier to complete later.

Spend Your Seasonal Currencies Before They Reset

A major reset is coming with Patch 12.1, and many Season 1 currencies will be wiped. Currencies you should spend now include:

  • Crests (replaced by new Myth Crests in Season 2)
  • Restored Coffer Keys and Key Shards
  • Dawnlight Manaflux
  • Likely: Nebulous Voidcores (due to system overlap)

There is no benefit to saving these, so convert them into upgrades, gear, or rewards before they disappear.

Use the Catalyst Trick to Unlock Tier Set Transmog Easily

One of the most overlooked strategies involves the Catalyst system and your remaining Season 1 gear.

When Season 2 begins:

  • All unused Catalyst charges will be removed
  • However, Season 1 gear can be converted for free

This creates a valuable opportunity. Instead of spending charges now, you can:

  • Save your Season 1 gear pieces
  • Convert them for free in Season 2
  • Unlock missing tier set transmogs much more easily

Important Limitation

There’s one critical catch: Season 1 gear cannot be upgraded in Season 2. This matters if you want higher-tier appearances (like Mythic transmogs). These are only unlocked when gear is upgraded to its maximum level (e.g., 6/6). For example, upgrading Hero gear to max level can unlock Mythic appearances. This is especially important if you don’t run Mythic raids or high Mythic+. So if you want those higher-difficulty visuals, you must upgrade your gear before Patch 12.1 launches.

Turbulent Timeways Event: Mounts, Rewards, and Deadlines

The Turbulent Timeways event is currently active and packed with valuable rewards—but it’s also time-limited.

How to Get the Spawn of Vyranoth Mount

To earn the exclusive mount, you must complete the “Master of the Turbulent Timeways V” achievement, which requires you to gain the Mastery of Timeways buff across 4 separate weeks. You earn the buff by completing 4 Timewalking dungeons in four weeks. Since there are only a limited number of weeks remaining, you’ll need to stay consistent or risk missing the mount entirely.

Timewalking Vendors and Exclusive Rewards

The event also introduces Dragonflight Timewalking, bringing a wide variety of items:

  • New mounts
  • Dragonflight Transmog sets and ensembles
  • Toys and pets
  • Dragonriding customizations
  • Previously released Timeways mounts

These rewards are purchased using Timewarped Badges and may not return for months. Some Timewalking events rotate infrequently, meaning you could wait 6 months or more for specific vendors to return and certain items may only be available during this event window. If anything catches your eye, it’s best to buy it now.

Easy Gear from Weekly Timewalking Quests

Each week during the event, you can complete a Timewalking quest that rewards a cache containing Hero-tier gear. If you’re already running dungeons for badges or achievements, this is essentially free gear—especially useful for alts or undergeared characters.

Best Time to Level Alts Before Season 2

The Turbulent Timeways event also makes this one of the best leveling periods in recent memory.

Why It’s So Effective

  • Continuous Timewalking dungeon availability
  • Up to 30% bonus experience from the stacking buff
  • Faster leveling across all content

Even if Timewalking isn’t the absolute fastest method, it’s easy, low-effort, consistent and reliable.

Why You Should Level Alts

Having multiple max-level characters provides several benefits:

  • Access to different classes and roles
  • Easier farming of currencies and achievements
  • Better profession coverage
  • More flexibility in Season 2 content

If you’ve been putting off leveling, now is the perfect time.

Should You Gear Up Before Patch 12.1?

A common question at the end of every season is whether gearing still matters.

What Changes in Season 2

Season 2 introduces significantly higher item levels:

  • Veteran Gear: Starts at 279 → upgrades to 296
  • Champion Gear: Starts at 292 → upgrades to 309

Additionally, all Season 2 gear has been increased further, making it noticeably stronger than anything from Season 1.

Is It Worth It?

The answer depends on your goals:

Yes, if you want to:

  • Push final achievements
  • Unlock transmog appearances
  • Finish difficult content before it disappears

No, if you:

  • Plan to replace gear quickly in Season 2
  • Don’t care about end-of-season progression

In most cases, gearing now is more about finishing goals rather than long-term power.

Set Up Your Professions for Easy Gear Upgrades

One of the smartest long-term decisions you can make is properly setting up your professions. In Season 2, players will gain access to a new crafting material: Spark of Tides. This item allows you to:

  • Craft or upgrade gear up to item level 305
  • Further enhance gear using:
    • Hero Crests → up to item level 318
    • Myth Crests → up to item level 331

How the System Works

You’ll receive one Spark per week, and crafting or upgrading an item requires 2 to 4 Sparks. This means you can secure a major gear upgrade roughly every two weeks.

Why Professions Matter

If you don’t have your own crafting setup:

  • You’ll rely on trade chat or crafting orders
  • Costs can be high and inconsistent
  • The process can be inconvenient and time-consuming

By contrast, setting up your own professions allows you to:

  • Craft your own high-quality (Rank 5) gear
  • Save large amounts of WoW gold over time
  • Be fully self-sufficient in future seasons

Plan ahead:

  • Decide which gear pieces you want first
  • Invest your knowledge points into those crafting paths
  • Use alts to cover multiple professions and maximize efficiency

Stock Up on Consumables Before Prices Rise

Another easy but effective preparation step is stocking up on Consumables. For Patch 12.1, no major new consumables are expected, and existing items (potions, flasks, weapon buffs) will remain relevant.

Why Buy Now?

  • Current prices are very low late in the season
  • Demand will spike at the start of Season 2
  • Prices are likely to increase significantly

What to Stockpile: Flasks, combat potions, Health potions, and Weapon oils or enhancements.

Having a reserve means:

  • No need to constantly restock
  • More uninterrupted gameplay during raids or Mythic+

Clean Up Your Inventory and Storage

Preparation isn’t just about power—it’s also about organization.

Declutter Your Bags

By the end of a season, inventories tend to fill up with old gear, unused items and random currencies or tokens.

Before Patch 12.1:

  • Store important items in your bank
  • Sell or discard unnecessary gear
  • Free up as much bag space as possible

This ensures you’re ready for the flood of new items in Season 2.

Organize Your Quest Log

A cluttered quest log can slow you down when new content arrives.

What to Do

  • Complete any meaningful side quests
  • Finish important storylines
  • Abandon outdated daily/weekly quests

Starting the new patch with a clean quest log helps you quickly identify new content, and stay focused on relevant objectives.

Update & Optimize Your Add-ons

Add-ons are essential for many players, but they can become outdated between patches.

Before Patch 12.1

  • Remove broken or unused add-ons
  • Update essential ones
  • Test your UI setup

If you plan to adjust your interface, now is the best time. Fixing add-ons during active gameplay (like Mythic+ runs) can be frustrating and disruptive.

Extra Tip: Explore Lore Content If You Have Time

If you’ve completed all your major goals and still have time before the patch, consider diving into lore-focused content.

The Lorewalking quests offer:

  • Insight into Troll history and culture
  • Background for the upcoming Patch 12.1 storyline
  • A deeper understanding of key narrative elements

With the next patch heavily centered around Troll themes, brushing up on this lore can enhance your overall experience.

By tackling these priorities now, you’ll enter WoW Patch 12.1 fully prepared, with no missed opportunities holding you back.
