Diablo 4's fishing system adds a completely different type of activity to Sanctuary. Instead of endless dungeon runs, Helltides, and boss farming, players can slow things down and spend time collecting D4 fish, earning rewards, and hunting for hidden collectibles.

One hidden reward has quickly become one of the biggest reasons many players are suddenly interested in fishing: Trawghll, a secret Murloc-style pet that immediately caught the attention of World of Warcraft fans. Here is everything you need to know about unlocking the fishing system and obtaining the hidden pet.

What Is the Fishing

Fishing is a non-combat activity introduced through the Lord of Hatred expansion. Instead of focusing entirely on combat, players can explore Sanctuary, collect fish, complete collections, and hunt for hidden rewards.

Players can fish in multiple environments:

● Water

● Rivers

● Lakes

● Lava

● Blood pools

● Sand dunes

Some locations also provide different fish pools and rewards.

How Fishing Works

Fishing becomes available through an early expansion questline in the new region of Skovos.

During the quest, players meet the fisherman Shi Yugong, who introduces the fishing mechanic and unlocks the Fishing action for the character. After completing the quest, the Fishing action is added to the emote wheel and can also be assigned to a hotkey.

Once unlocked, the system is very simple to use:

1. Walk near a fishable location

2. Open the Action/Emote Wheel

3. Select Cast Fishing Line

4. Wait for a bite

5. Press any skill button when the fish icon appears to reel it in

If the game says the location is unsuitable, simply move closer to the fishing spot and try again.

What Is Trawghll

Trawghll is a hidden companion pet in Diablo 4. For World of Warcraft players, it will immediately feel familiar because it looks almost identical to a classic Murloc.

The pet carries:

● A tiny backpack

● A fishing rod

● Fish sticking out of the bag

Like other Diablo 4 pets, it automatically collects D4 Items:

● Gold

● Materials

● Gems

● Other collectible resources

Outside of its pickup function, it is mainly a cosmetic collectible. Still, for many players: "It's a Murloc." That alone is enough.

How to Get Trawghll

Trawghll is obtained through a very rare fishing drop and is not tied to quests, achievements, or completing the full fishing collection.

Trawghll comes from a Mythic-rarity item called Gurgling Bag of Rubbish. Opening this item has a chance to unlock the pet.

The difficult part is not knowing how to get it. The difficult part is surviving the grind.

One of the earliest reported Trawghll drops came from player BullanBarman. Based on the shared information, the pet dropped in Kehjistan on Torment 8 difficulty after roughly five hours of fishing.

Interestingly, the player had only completed three regional fish collections and had not finished the full collection at the time. This indicates that completing every fish collection is not required for Trawghll to drop.

Current observations show:

● No fishing location has been confirmed to provide a higher Trawghll drop chance

● There is currently no confirmed best farming spot

● Difficulty may affect Trawghll drop rates, but this has not been verified

Even if Trawghll does not drop immediately, fishing still offers plenty of additional progression and rewards beyond the hidden pet.

Fishing Collections and Rewards

Fishing is not just about random catches. Diablo 4 includes a collection system where players can discover new fish species, unlock achievements, and chase hidden rewards. Players interested in collecting fishing-related rewards and rare collectibles can also explore additional Diablo 4 Fishing collections.

● Discover new fish species

● Complete regional collections

● Earn achievement progress

● Unlock titles

Possible fishing rewards include:

● Common fish

● Rare fish

● Mythic fish

● Materials

● Valuable items

● Junk items

● Hidden collectibles

● Secret cosmetic rewards

Useful Tips While Fishing Trawghll

Lava Pools, Blood Pools, and Sand Dunes always reward Mythic fish, making them popular farming choices while hunting for Trawghll.

Common locations include:

● Volcano areas near Horadric routes

● Sand dunes north of the Tarsarak waypoint in Kehjistan

While these locations do not increase Trawghll's drop chance, they still provide useful rewards during long farming sessions. Mythic fish from volcano areas can sell for around 2,000 Gold each, allowing players to earn an amount Diablo 4 gold while farming.
