World of Warcraft isn't just relying on dungeons and raids to keep players engaged for its next expansion - Patch 8.0 Battle for Azeroth that will begin on August 14. Heart of Azeroth, dubbed Island Expeditions, Warfronts, class changes, pet changes, profession skill changes are being added to give players some variety in their progression and endgame experience.
Battle for Azeroth - Heart of Azeroth
Heart of Azeroth will be your character progression’s a critical part. It is an artifact-grade neck piece entrusted to each hero by Magni Bronzebeard. The pendant absorbs Azerite, a rock-like mineral that crystallizes around fissures in the ground, and it’s the very lifeblood of Azeroth made stone.
This is a Fantastic new feature, which incorporates a mix of classic dungeons and Diablo rifts, and players will get a taste of both elements combined.
Island Expeditions are three-player scenarios that are designed for any type of team composition - feel free to head in as tanks or healers’ a trio, though it may not be so efficient. It will take under 20 minutes to finish your goal that is to obtain some Azerite for both you and your faction.
Essentially they’re mini plundering missions, but with a key difference to typical WoW activities: it’s all created on the fly. It’s not quite random or procedural generation.
They’re also time pressured. The enemy faction will dispatch a champion team to hunt that precious Azerite. Those champions can be AI controlled in normal, heroic, mythic difficulties or real players in the PvP version. There is a significant AI boost with actual intelligence in the NPC version.
Battle for Azeroth AI
New patch brings a new AI system, specifically for use in Island Expeditions. The plan is for the enemy team to play much more intelligently than your average mob.
These enemies will consider far more options. Equally, if they think the fight isn’t in their favor for them or there are better ways to finish objectives in the scenario, they may avoid combat altogether.
Battle for Azeroth Warfronts
Warfronts are an RTS-like cooperative experience similar to a battleground, but with more building establishment, territory capture, defense and resource control.
Head to the frontlines and take part in a large-scale 20-player cooperative Warfront to claim a key strategic location.
The mode sees each faction build a base, develop an army and attempt to defeat the enemy in battle.
They're only PvE, and are part of the ongoing battles between the Alliance and Horde. They're longer than Island expeditions, expected to take 40+ minutes more akin to a full dungeon.
Battle for Azeroth class changes
The new expansion makes every class in the game feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Battle for Azeroth has a huge list of changes. For more details you can click Wowhead’s extensive data.
Battle for Azeroth pet changes
Be ready for some big changes to your pets if you are a hunter: the idea of tank or DPS creatures is being scrapped completely. Instead pets will be divided into both Ferocity and Tenacity, allowing them to fulfil all forms of pet duties, no matter their family. Every pet will have all offensive and defensive passive abilities by default.
Battle Res for pets is being completely removed, eliminating pet resurrection from a Hunter’s tool kit, while Bloodlust will be available to a third of pet families rather than just two.
Battle for Azeroth profession skill changes
The new expansion is squishing profession skills. Each profession’s difficulty level is being reduced right down to 100. This means that the maximum potential skill level will be 100.
