By Nancy G2022-11-18

Dear exiles, exciting news! The fourth PoE expansion of this year will be revealed in just two weeks! Today I will foreshow parts of the balance guide to you. GGG will launch four or five parts about the balance, containing Jewels and Ailment Mitigation, Curses, Eldritch Altar Revamp, Archnemesis, and maybe the fifth. This post shows Jewels and Ailment Mitigation and Archnemesis.

The Forbidden Sanctum Balance Guide

Name and Date

Path of Exile 3.20 league is called The Forbidden Sanctum, and it will be launched on December 9th (PST) on PC and on December 14th (PST) on consoles. More details about the new league will be revealed on December 1st (PST).

Jewels and Ailment Mitigation

Jewels will be more flexible and exciting than before. Jewels with effects that are useful only to a subset of players should still be attainable while moving them out of the way of players who aren't interested in them. They will provide a better source of ailment mitigation than they were in the 3.19 league.

Archnemesis

In the upcoming 3.20 league, Archnemesis will be replaced with a system that is more similar to the way monster mods worked in the past. Let’s see why GGG change the Archnemesis:

- The community hated Archnemesis and wanted it removed.

- Everyone thought this would be the MOST IMPORTANT manifesto, and 93% voted.

- Archnemesis led to limited build diversity and an unhealthy loot goblin meta.

GGG added Archnemesis because the old system was confusing, and players could not easily distinguish what mods were on a rare. There is no denying that Archnemesis did succeed at adding a lot of interesting new mechanics to rares but meanwhile introduced some problems. While creating the new monster mods, they were careful to retain most of the interesting mechanics that Archnemesis introduced, but in a way that doesn't include a grab-bag of other effects and is diluted by many other simpler mods.

The result is a system that is very similar to what monster mods used to be like, but with much more up-to-date content and balance. Mods are simpler and say exactly what they do. While you can certainly still rarely encounter scary combinations of mods that really wake you up, it's a lot rarer than it was under the Archnemesis system. I think the new system is more modern and interesting than the old monster mod/nemesis system and is clearer and easier to understand in the heat of combat than Archnemesis was.

Conclusion

As I mentioned, there will be several other balance manifestos coming out. These will cover topics such as Curses and Eldritch Altars, among other things. Please stay tuned on mmogah.com and pathofexile.com to find more news about the PoE new league.
