Path of Exile is proud to announce Path of Exile: Betrayal! You'll help Jun Ortoi investigate and take down a mysterious organisation known as the Immortal Syndicate. Betrayal features new masters, end-game maps, unified hideouts, streamlined mastercrafting, powerful new items, new and revamped skill gems and much more. Today MmoGah (a professional PoE Trade site) will share more details with PoE fans.
Path of Exile: Betrayal
In Path of Exile: Betrayal, Jun Ortoi is investigating a mysterious organisation known as the Immortal Syndicate. Help her to manipulate their ranks, reveal the identities of their members, uncover their safehouses and take down their mastermind.
Immortal Syndicate Encounters
The Immortal Syndicate has four divisions, each with its own goals: Fortification, Transportation, Research and Intervention. In each area, you will encounter a Syndicate member. Other members can show up to aid their friends or sabotage their enemies. When the battle is complete, you must decide how to continue your investigation.
Manipulate the Syndicate
There are eighteen Syndicate members, each with their own personalities, friendships and rivalries that change as you manipulate the organisation. You will need to bargain, execute, interrogate and even induce them to betray each other in order to further the investigation.
Raid Syndicate Safehouses
Your goal is to gain intelligence leading to the captains of each division. Raid their safehouses to pillage their supplies and uncover the ultimate identity of the Immortal Syndicate's mastermind.
Each Syndicate member stores different item types in the safehouse. High-ranked members will have better items. Each division has a different twist on item rewards. Manipulate the Syndicate, maneuvering certain members into positions that are going to be the most rewarding for you.
Members of the Immortal Syndicate can drop items with new Veiled Modifiers. Take these to Jun to Unveil the item and pick from one of three properties for the item to receive. As you Unveil specific modifiers, you learn the ability to craft these onto other items and can work towards unlocking higher-level versions of these properties.
New Masters, Familiar Faces
As the Immortal Syndicate ascended in power, the old cohort of Forsaken Masters mysteriously vanished. In their absence, Einhar, Alva, Niko, Jun and Zana have risen as a new group of Masters to aid you. Their league content, including Delve and Incursion, has been added as core Path of Exile content. Bestiary has been reimagined and simplified; Einhar will handle the nets as you focus on hunting the beasts.
PoE has revamped the entire process of Mastercrafting, from the user interface to the way you acquire new crafting options. Individual Mastercrafting options are now unlocked by completing specific content, such as Incursion rooms or Delve encounters, rather than by grinding Master levels.
Unified Hideout System
Hideouts, favour and decorations are now shared across all leagues. You can load and save your hideout templates and share them with other community members.
New End-game Maps
PoE has added four new maps to the Atlas of Worlds. These new maps are fleshed-out versions of fan-favourite tilesets from deep in Delve's Azurite Mine. The entire Atlas of Worlds has been rearranged.
New and Revamped Skills
Alongside other balance improvements, Betrayal introduces ten new or revamped skills across three core character archetypes. These include several completely new types of skills, such as Brands and Banners.
Powerful New Items
Many of the 15 new unique items in Betrayal have Veiled mods, allowing you to customise the item more than ever before. Betrayal also includes five new Divination Cards, designed by our supporters.
Betrayal Supporter Packs
PoE is also launching two sets of Supporter Packs alongside Betrayal - the Undertaker and Soulstealer Packs. There are two price points available for each and they feature masses of points alongside new Armour Sets and other exclusive cosmetic microtransactions!
Path of Exile: Betrayal will launch on December 7th (PST) on PC, December 10 on Xbox One and mid-December on PlayStation 4
Here is another news post summarises some of the changes PoE has made.
Previously, you had a hideout per league and had to re-grind for favour/decorations in each league and customise a new hideout from scratch. This meant that people's amazing creations were soon relegated to the Standard leagues and only a few players continued to make high-effort hideouts league after league.
With the new system, your hideouts, favour and decorations are shared across all leagues. Because these systems are entirely cosmetic and provide no gameplay advantage, there is no competitive advantage to starting a new league with an incredibly detailed-looking hideout. It will, however, save you a lot of time setting a new one up.
You can have a different hideout set up for each tileset, and can swap between them at will.
Saving and Sharing Hideout Templates
In Path of Exile: Betrayal, you can export your hideout to a file on your computer, and import it later. This system can be used as a way to either save your work before doing something experimental with your hideout, or as a way to share hideouts with other community members.
When you attempt to load a hideout from an exported file, it will only restore the decorations that you have available on your account. In a later update, PoE will look into features that let you automatically purchase (with favour or, if they are from the store, microtransaction points) missing decorations.
(Note that this won't work on console. PoE is still assessing whether or not PoE will be able to make this possible in future.)
Hideout Sizes and Master Limits Removed
In the old system, hideouts would upgrade from one size to another as you levelled the Masters up. This would unlock specific parts of the hideout that were previously inaccessible. You also gained more slots to hold masters, and had to level the hideout up to maximum size to have all the Masters in your hideout at once.
In the new system, each hideout is fully available at maximum size as soon as it's unlocked. The sizes do vary from tileset to tileset as appropriate for the theme of the area. There are now no limits to how many Masters can be in your hideout at once.
New Tilesets and Decorations
In addition to new decorations, there are also plenty of new hideout tilesets available for you to choose from. These new tilesets can be encountered in the world and are unlocked on your account forever (not just in this league) once you full-clear them of the monsters inside. Certain tilesets will be rarer than others. Hideouts often contain some on-theme decorations that are unlocked alongside them. PoE also plan to add some premium hideout tilesets to the microtransaction store in the future.
While there's no need to grind Master levels to unlock gameplay systems (such as crafting or vendor options), Masters have Favour Levels which unlock more decorations as you do more missions for them. Like with other hideout progress, these Favour Levels are shared between leagues, so you don't need to grind them from scratch in a new league.
PoE has also made some small quality-of-life improvements to the process of editing hideouts. For example, you now purchase hideout decorations directly from the decoration stash without having to go and talk to the individual Master who granted that decoration.
