Diablo 4's Season 8 has introduced a challenging loot system, making rare items harder to come by. Whether you're hunting for Ancestrals, Mythics, or Legendary Runes, P4wnyhof's guide will help you maximize your chances of success.

Source for Ancestral Legendary Items

1. Greater Collection

To guarantee Ancestral Legendary items, go to your Seasonal Journey - Seasnal Blessing and invest Ashes into the Urn of Ancestral Whispers. This boosts the chance of an Ancestral Cache appearing when turning in Whispers to 100%. Doing this allows you to get a Greater Collection, which grants valuable items, including Ancestral Legendary items, and the Infernal Compass keys, another excellent source for Ancestral Legendary items.

2. The Infernal Compass

The Infernal Compass is the key item needed to enter the Infernal Hordes. The Infernal Hordes provide two main benefits:

1. The 200-Aether Cache gives a substantial amount of Ancestral Legendaries.

2. You can also earn Reputation. By choosing The Teaming Masses, each Aether Lord you kill on Torment 4 grants 3,600 Reputation.

Head to Tarsarak, and you'll continue to gain Reputation even after completing the board. This trick not only fast-tracks you to the Resplendent Cache for crafting a Mythic or obtaining a random Mythic cache, but it also consistently provides Mystery Greater Archetype Caches. These are character-bound and specific, and each cache grants an Ancestral Legendary and an Ancestral Unique.

Additional Tips

Infernal Hord Keys can be obtained from The Tree of Whispers, Helltides, and Belial. If you manage to acquire Betrayer's Husk, you're guaranteed an Infernal Compass as well.

3. Purveyor of Curiosities

Another source of Ancestral and Unique items is Purveyor of Curiosities. By gambling your Murmuring Obols, you are almost guaranteed to obtain a Greater-Affix item, even with a minimal investment. The chances of getting Unique items are significantly higher as well. So, if you want the Banished Lords Talisman or the Eyes in the Dark, achieving this with a full amount of Obols is quite possible.

The Pit is the best place to grind for Obols, especially since you'll be there for your glyph grinding. When farming Obols, remember to put four Ashes into the Urn of Glyphs. This will give you a chance to earn an extra upgrade when improving glyphs, allowing you to receive five upgrades instead of four at the end of your run. That's a substantial benefit!

If you're working on Reputation grinding, make sure to put four Ashes into the Urn of Oaths. This provides a 20% extra Reputation when you're in an Infernal Horde and taking down various Bosses.

4. The Den and the Undercity

There are two additional methods for acquiring Ancestral items: The Den and the Undercity.

The Den

In The Den, you can spend Pale Marks, which you earn by having Mercenaries. Approach the vendor, and she'll offer you items. Her goods may include a Greater-Affix item, along with a Salvaged Material cache. Her Aspect caches can also contain Greater-Affix items. While it's less likely, it is still possible, so don't overlook them, especially if you're missing any Aspects, Prisms, Gem Fragments, and Runes.

The Undercity

Entering the Undercity is not recommended unless you have a Tribute to use. The relevant Tributes include Tribute of Titans, Tribute of Harmony, Tribute of Refinement, and Tribute of Ascendance. You obtain these Tributes by defeating Bosses, which will drop either the Titans, the Refinement, or the Harmony. They can also drop from Infernal Hordes.

As for the Tribute of Ascendance, while it's unlikely, it can yield a Mythic item from the Tree of Whisper dungeon key cache.

When putting a Tribute in, you can also go for a Bargain, where you will want to avoid Core Stats, Primary Resource, or Resistance. Instead, focus on the bottom four options: Chaotic Uniques, More Weapons, More Armor, and More Jewelry. Doing this allows you to receive more weapons, armor, and jewelry on top of your regular loot. For example, the chest could yield Masterworking Materials, Boss materials, or Runes, along with 1-3 additional weapons, armor pieces, or jewelry. These can be Mythic or Unique, serving as bonuses to your existing loot.

As a final note regarding Ancestral Legendaries, you can still visit the Blood Maiden, but be aware that her drops have been significantly nerfed, resulting in minimal rewards.

How to Get Ancestrals, Mythics, and Legendary Runes in Season 8 Diablo 4

Source for Mythics and Ancestral Uniques

What about Mythics and Ancestral Uniques? The drop chance for these items remains the same across all Tournament tiers—1, 2, 3, or 4—when defeating bosses. So, which boss should you target? Duriel, Harbinger of Hatred, and Andariel each have a drop chance of 1.5%. Currently, the highest drop chance is from Belial in the Palace of the Deceiver. However, to face Belial, you'll need Betrayer's Husks, which you can only obtain by defeating a Mini Belial that ambushes you.

You can also purchase Betrayer's Husks from other players using gold. But how can you accumulate 1.5 billion gold? One way is by selling a Greater-Affix item. For example, Beastfall Boots with a Greater Affix in Resource or Eyes in the Dark with a Greater Affix to Aftermath can sell for around one billion gold each.

How likely is it to obtain a Mythic from Betrayer's Husks? The drop chance for a Mythic item is 3%, which is relatively low. However, this is not the only reward from Belial.

If you want to defeat Belial in the Palace of the Deceiver, consider using a Death Trap Rogue or a Blood Wave Necromancer, as such a build makes it easy. Once you defeat him, you can choose your loot: Andariel, Duriel, Grigoire, or whatever you prefer. The loot you select has a significantly higher chance of containing an Ancestral Unique or a Mythic.

For instance, after choosing the Andariel, the box can contain Greater-Affix items, the Infernal Compass, the Tribute, and Runes. The downside is that the Runes are likely to be Magic or Rare, and rarely Legendary. The box primarily drops Ancestral Uniques. While you can get these from other Bosses, you typically need to defeat 10 to 15 of them to secure an Ancestral Unique.

In Season 8, the drop rates have changed significantly. Previously, you could obtain a Greater-Affix Unique item every second or third boss kill. Now, unless you're fighting Belial, your chances are slim.

Source for Legendary Runes

If you're looking to craft a specific Mythic item, gathering enough Legendary Runes is essential. However, relying on a random Mythic Unique cache with just two Runes can lead to disappointing results unless luck is on your side. Crafting a Unique item demands six Legendary Runes, which means you may often find yourself short on these valuable resources. In Season 8, the drop rate for Legendary Runes is particularly low. Whether you're engaging in activities like costing the Tributes, running Torment levels from 1 to 4, defeating Bosses, or venturing into The Den, you might find yourself feeling disappointed. Therefore, the most effective way to acquire Runes right now is to farm Unique items, sell them on diablo.trade, and then buy the Runes you need.

To make Mythic Uniques, your best bet is to craft a random Mythic. If it doesn't meet your expectations, you can disenchant it to obtain another Resplendent Spark. You can still earn Resplendent Sparks through your Seasonal Journey by defeating Lilith on Torment 1 and by earning Reputation in Tarsarak.

Easy Mythics

There is an easy method to earn Resplendent Sparks: level a character to 60 quickly using the eye-beam leveling method, and then jump into an Infernal Horde to kill Bosses and complete the Unveiler's Oath Reputation for Resplendent caches.

For example, you can create another Rogue in under 2 hours using Belial's Eye Beam or the Wandering Death's Chest Beam. Once you hit level 60, equip your new Rogue with the gear from the current one. Just like that, you can dive into Torment 4 Infernal Horde, boost Reputation in one or two runs, and within 3 hours, you would have another Resplendent Spark.

Honestly, spending 3 hours farming just for a spark is not an excellent method. However, it might actually be faster than trying to fight against Belial for the same amount of time, especially if you have the necessary Boss Materials bought from sellers in the game to acquire Mythics.

But here's the kicker: you don't even need Mythics! Your character is strong enough without a single Greater Unique item. A Rogue can absolutely dominate and clear up to tier 100 with just a few tweaks.

Final Thoughts

Season 8's loot system is undeniably challenging, with lower drop rates and increased grind requirements. However, with strategic planning and efficient farming methods, you can still acquire powerful gear to dominate Diablo 4's toughest encounters—even without Mythics!
