Final Fantasy XIV at Gamescom 2025: Yoshi-P Talks Beastmaster, Level Cap, and Future Collaborations

Level Cap Beyond 100?

With Dawntrail pushing the game’s jobs to a clean level 100, players have speculated whether future expansions will continue the traditional +10 level increase. Yoshida confirmed that the development team has already decided on the “next direction,” but emphasized that the focus is not on the number itself:

“The important thing is not the level itself. It’s providing that sensation of steady growth to the player.”

While Yoshida didn’t confirm details, many expect the level cap to reach 110 in 8.0. However, he stressed that the team is still evaluating long-term solutions to keep progression engaging.

Job Evolution at Level 100

Many jobs now feature powerful finishing abilities and traits that enhance shared role actions. Yoshida acknowledged this and hinted at “big plans for jobs moving forward”, though he reassured players that the team won’t implement radical changes that would disrupt the current gameplay experience. The goal is to make jobs more interesting without overwhelming players or disrupting established systems.

Beastmaster: A New Limited Job

One of the most exciting reveals is the upcoming Beastmaster, scheduled for the 7.5 series. Like Blue Mage, it will be a limited job with its own unique progression system. Yoshida described the concept:

“You ally yourself with monsters, and those monsters grow so that they can join you in dedicated battle content. This is something completely different from anything we’ve done before.”

There will also be lore connections to the Save the Queen questline from Shadowbringers, though Yoshida declined to confirm whether characters from that story will reappear. The team has invested significant resources into Beastmaster, and Yoshida expressed confidence that it will feel fresh and substantial compared to Blue Mage.

Collaborations: From Monster Hunter to… Tekken?

The upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds collaboration is set to be the next big crossover event in FFXIV. Yoshida also shared his personal dream collaborations, citing One Piece, Evangelion, Gundam, and Diablo as franchises he would love to see represented in the game.

Interestingly, when asked what collaboration he would like, the interviewer suggested Tekken, to which Yoshida responded enthusiastically, referencing FFXVI’s Clive appearing in Tekken 8. This playful exchange leaves the door open for future crossover surprises.

Story Themes and the Road Ahead

Yoshida also reflected on the thematic progression of Endwalker and Dawntrail. Endwalker dealt with hope at the end of a long saga, while Dawntrail explored death and the meaning of legacy. Looking forward, Yoshida hinted at future story arcs, confirming that Meracydia will appear eventually—though still far off—while many players speculate it could feature icy, winter-themed settings.

Closing Thoughts

From speculation about the level cap to bold new ideas like Beastmaster and potential crossovers, Final Fantasy XIV continues to evolve in unexpected ways. While Yoshida kept some details vague, the passion behind his words suggests that big changes are still on the horizon.

As always, players will have to wait and see — but the excitement for what lies ahead in 7.x and beyond is stronger than ever.
