If your saddlebag in Final Fantasy XIV looks anything like most players', it's probably overflowing with dyes—and that's before even considering all the gear you want to glam. Fortunately, Patch 7.5 is bringing a long-awaited quality-of-life upgrade: the Consolidated Dye System.

Revealed during the 91st Live Letter by Naoki Yoshida, this system aims to streamline dye management, reduce inventory clutter, and modernize one of the game's more outdated features.

FFXIV Patch 7.5: Consolidated Dye System Explained

What Is the Consolidated Dye System?

Currently, players must collect and store hundreds of individual dyes, each tied to a specific color. This makes inventory management frustrating, especially for glamour enthusiasts. Starting in Patch 7.5, dyes will be simplified into three main categories:

  • Type A Dye – Covers classic base-game colors (from 2.x patches, 85 dyes)
  • Type B Dye – Includes dyes from the Ishgardian Restoration (9 dyes)
  • Type C Dye – Contains newer dyes from Cosmic Exploration (11 dyes)

Instead of hoarding individual colors, owning just one dye from a category unlocks access to all colors within that group. For example:

  • With Type A, you can freely use colors like Dalamud Red or Snow White
  • With Type C, you can access newer shades like Cobalt Green or Metallic Ruby Red

This dramatically reduces the need for storage space while giving players more flexibility when customizing gear.

Important Exceptions

Not all dyes are included in this new system. Premium dyes from the Online Store will remain separate and still require storage, like Pure White, Jet Black, Metallic series dyes, Pastel, and Dark series dyes. So while the system greatly reduces clutter, you'll still need to manage some high-value dyes manually.

What Happens to Your Current Dyes?

Once Patch 7.5 launches (scheduled for April 28, 2026), your existing dyes will no longer function in their current form. Instead, you can exchange them for the new system by visiting a Calamity Salvager NPC in starting cities like Limsa Lominsa.

Market Board Impact & Smart Preparation Tips

This overhaul will significantly affect the in-game economy:

  • The Market Board will shift from hundreds of dye listings to just three categories
  • Type C dyes are expected to become the most valuable
  • Prices may fluctuate heavily right after launch

Pro Tip: Stock up on cheap dyes now before the patch. After conversion, you may gain access to more valuable colors within the same category—essentially upgrading your dye collection at a low cost.

Need More Gil for Patch 7.5?

Major system changes like this often create new market opportunities—but they also require gil to take full advantage of them.

If you're planning to invest in dyes, gear, or Market Board flips, having enough currency is key. Many players choose to save time by using reliable services like MmoGah, where you can safely buy FFXIV Gil with fast delivery and competitive prices. This can help you stay ahead of the market and fully enjoy the new dye system without grinding for hours.

A Much-Needed Modern Upgrade

The Consolidated Dye System is one of the most player-friendly updates coming in Patch 7.5. It not only frees up valuable inventory space (meaning more room for gear) but also aligns FFXIV with modern MMO standards. With more system improvements hinted at for upcoming Fan Festivals, it's clear that Square Enix is committed to refining older mechanics and improving the overall player experience.
