Professions in MoP Classic are more important than ever, thanks to their role in gear progression, gold-making, and daily cooldown crafting. With changes to how items are made, the value of Spirits of Harmony, and powerful crafted epics, this guide covers everything you need to know about each crafting profession.

Spirits of Harmony: The New Essential Currency

Spirits of Harmony are at the core of nearly every profession. These bind-on-pickup materials are used to bypass daily cooldowns, craft powerful items, and research recipes faster. They can be acquired from mobs, chests, or through your personal farm in the Valley of the Four Winds. Efficient players will rely on a large number of alts to collect and use Spirits of Harmony daily, making it one of the smartest ways to farm MoP Classic gold consistently.

Inscription: The King of Alts

Inscription is a top-tier profession in MoP Classic due to the strength of Darkmoon trinkets. These trinkets—especially the Caster, Healer, and Agility/Strength versions—are incredibly powerful and retain high value for a long time.

However, each Darkmoon card requires a Scroll of Wisdom, which is a once-per-day cooldown per character. To maximize deck crafting speed and gold output, players are encouraged to have multiple alts with Inscription. One player reported using seven Scribes and still needing a long time to complete a single deck.

In addition to Darkmoon cards, Scribes can use Scrolls of Wisdom to craft bind-on-account (BoA) 476-level epic staves (Intellect and Agility versions), shoulder enchants (now sellable as BoEs due to the removal of reputation requirements), and tomes like the Tome of the Clear Mind.

Highlights:

1 Scroll of Wisdom per day per character.

BoA epic staff costs 20 Scrolls + mats.

Weekly quest for 1 extra Scroll (costs 5–6 Spirits of Harmony).

Shoulder enchants are now crafted and sellable (no rep required).

Blacksmithing: Upgradeable Weapons and Easy Leveling

Blacksmithing follows a progressive model where crafted weapons can be upgraded across phases. Starting in Phase 3, daily cooldowns become relevant to craft powerful items. Early on, the biggest benefit remains the extra two gem sockets for wrists and gloves.

Leveling Blacksmithing is relatively simple—players can use only MoP materials (Ghost Iron Bars) all the way to 600 skill. Though expensive, this avoids the need to go back to older content.

Highlights:

Two extra sockets = key combat bonus.

Upgradeable weapons start in Phase 3.

Can level to 600 with MoP-only mats.

Engineering: Mobility, Utility, and Mount RNG

Engineering remains a utility powerhouse, with key tinkers like:

Synapse Springs (stat boost for gloves),

Goblin Glider (cape escape),

Rocket Belt (movement burst).

You must know the Cataclysm version of Synapse Springs before learning the MoP version. While classes in MoP are more mobile, reducing some of Engineering’s edge, utility like portable anvils and Blingtron still adds value.

Blingtron is a daily-use robot that anyone can access for free gifts, with a chance at mounts and pets.

Highlights:

Synapse Springs & Rocket Belt are still strong.

Portable anvils and Blingtron are available for convenience and rewards.

Tinkers are still valuable but slightly reduced due to increased baseline mobility.

Enchanting: More Control Over Your Mats

Enchanting has two major perks:

You can convert materials up and down tiers (Dust ⇌ Essence ⇌ Shard ⇌ Crystal).

A daily cooldown transforms blue shards into epic crystals, used for top enchants like Dancing Steel or weapon enchants with procs.

Real PPM (Procs Per Minute) mechanics replace internal cooldowns. Haste increases the chance for procs to occur, making enchants more dynamic and unpredictable.

You’ll still get exclusive ring enchants for personal DPS or healing bonuses.

Highlights:

Enchant mats can be upgraded/downgraded.

Daily CD for epic Sha Crystals.

Real PPM mechanics = proc frequency scales with haste.

Jewelcrafting: Self-Sufficient and Lucrative

Jewelcrafting lets you research new cuts daily (1 recipe per day), and you can spend Spirits of Harmony to accelerate learning.

One big change: You can now craft your own Primal Diamonds (meta gems), removing reliance on Alchemists. These recipes drop from the open world.

Jewelcrafters can also craft pets and make a unique mount for profit, which makes the profession attractive in the long term.

Highlights:

Daily recipe research (boostable via Spirits of Harmony).

Self-crafting meta gems (Primal Diamonds).

Craftable mounts and pets for Auction House sales.

Tailoring: Slow But Valuable

Tailoring’s primary function revolves around the daily creation of Imperial Silk, which is used for epic gloves, chests, leg enchants, and a 28-slot bag. Imperial Silk creation also has a chance to grant a pet.

Early on, these epics will sell well since raids won’t be available immediately. With 4–6 days required to make a single item, stocking up early gives a big gold advantage.

Tailors can use three Spirits of Harmony to create additional Imperial Silk per day.

Highlights:

Daily CD: Imperial Silk (used in epics, bags, leg enchants).

Chance to obtain pets.

Extra Imperial Silk via Spirits of Harmony.

Leatherworking: The Grind Pays Off

Leatherworking is one of the strongest gold-makers—if you like grinding. Magnificent Hide is a rare material used in all high-end crafts and is obtainable via:

Daily cooldown (20 Exotic Leather or Prismatic Scales),

50 Exotic Leather (no cooldown or Spirits needed),

Random drops while skinning mobs.

Magnificent Hide is used in epic gear, leg armors, and later phases for Hardened Magnificent Hide. It will hold its value well into the expansion.

Highlights:

Daily CD: 1 Magnificent Hide.

No-CD option via 50 Exotic Leather.

Used for leg enchants, gloves, chests, and future crafts.

Alchemy: Transmute Mastery and Early Flask Profits

Alchemy remains one of the best professions for gold and progression. You can still choose between Potion, Elixir, and Transmute Masteries. The key daily cooldown is Living Steel, which is vital for:

Belt buckles (every player needs one),

High-end Blacksmithing crafts.

Living Steel is made from Trillium Bars (requires 2x Black Trillium and 2x White Trillium Ore). Since Trillium is rare and RNG-based, Living Steel maintains a high price.

Alchemy is also the only way to make the incredibly strong Alchemist-exclusive trinket, once known as the best choice for Challenge Modes.

There are no cauldrons in MoP Classic, so every raider will need individual flasks—good news for potion and flask sellers.

Highlights:

Daily CD: Living Steel (core crafting material).

Must smelt White + Black Trillium into bars.

Powerful Alchemist trinket available.

Huge flask and potion demand, no cauldrons.

Final Thoughts: Optimize Your Profession Strategy

In MoP Classic, nearly every profession has a daily cooldown tied to its most valuable output. To get ahead:

Create an “alt army” with duplicate professions (especially Scribes, Alchemists, and Jewelcrafters).

Invest early in Spirits of Harmony by farming or using the personal farm.

Take advantage of high early-phase demand (Darkmoon cards, epic gear, Living Steel, enchants).

Whether your goal is to raid at peak performance or build your fortune on the Auction House, MoP Classic professions offer more flexibility and long-term value than ever before.
