The Elder Scrolls Online's Update 51 is shaping up to be one of the most player-focused updates the game has received in years. While it may not introduce an entirely new chapter or massive expansion, it delivers something many long-time players have been requesting for ages—meaningful quality-of-life improvements, smarter progression systems, exciting solo content, and a brand-new activity that breaks away from ESO's traditional gameplay formula.

From customizable HUDs and achievement tracking to overhauled Antiquities and the mysterious Nowhere Vault, Update 51 aims to improve nearly every aspect of the player experience.

Update 51 PTS Delayed

The first major announcement is that the Public Test Server (PTS) launch has been delayed.

Originally scheduled for July 6, the Update 51 PTS will now begin on July 27. While this delays community testing and the usual datamining that accompanies each PTS cycle, it does not affect the launch of Season 1, which remains on schedule for July 8.

Although the delay is disappointing for players eager to preview the update, it likely gives the developers additional time to polish some of the larger systems being introduced.

A Strong Focus on Veteran Players

One of the most interesting takeaways from the developer stream is that Update 51 isn't just about helping newcomers.

The development team specifically mentioned that they're working on long-requested features aimed at dedicated, long-term players. Even more exciting is the tease that several larger projects are already in development, although they're not ready to reveal them yet.

This suggests that Update 51 is only the beginning of a broader initiative to modernize ESO.

Favorite Homes Finally Become Easier to Access

Housing enthusiasts are getting a surprisingly useful upgrade.

Instead of scrolling through dozens—or even hundreds—of owned homes every time you fast travel, the game will now place:

• Your Primary Residence at the very top

• Your Favorite Homes immediately underneath

It's a simple improvement, but one that removes a surprising amount of friction for players who frequently travel between homes.

Greymoor Joins the Base Game

Perhaps one of the biggest announcements is that the Greymoor Chapter is officially becoming part of the ESO base game.

This means every player will gain access to:

• Antiquities

• Scrying

• Excavation

• Greymoor questline

For many players, Antiquities has become one of ESO's best side progression systems, and making it available to everyone significantly increases the value of the base game.

Antiquities Receive Major Improvements

With Antiquities becoming available to all players, ZeniMax is also making the system significantly easier to learn and progress through.

Several improvements include:

Easier Onboarding

New players can now obtain the Antiquities starter quest directly from the Crown Store, making it much more obvious how to begin the system.

Faster Early Progression

One of the biggest frustrations with Antiquities has always been leveling.

Update 51 dramatically reduces the grind.

Lead requirements have been reduced by:

• Approximately 50% for Green leads

• Roughly 33% for Blue and Purple leads

This means players will reach the more exciting Purple Antiquities much faster than before.

Better Guidance at Dig Sites

Many new players never realized how important the Antiquarian's Eye tool was.

Now, whenever players arrive at a dig site, the game will automatically remind them to use the Antiquarian's Eye, making excavation far more intuitive.

Improved Lead Drop Rates

The developers also completed a large audit of older Antiquity lead drop rates.

Many older leads used outdated drop chances that were far less generous than newer content.

Update 51 standardizes these rates, making rare leads significantly easier to obtain.

Additionally, leads will now continue dropping at full rates until players complete their Codex entries, rather than becoming much rarer after the first discovery.

This is a massive improvement for collectors.

Achievement Pinning Finally Arrives

One of the most requested quality-of-life features is finally becoming reality.

Players can now pin achievements directly to their interface.

Pinned achievements display:

• Current objectives

• Progress bars

• Remaining requirements

Initially, only one achievement can be pinned at a time, although achievements containing multiple objectives will still display all of their progress.

The developers have already confirmed they're exploring support for multiple pinned achievements in future updates.

PC Players Receive a New HUD Editor

Arguably one of the most exciting additions is the new HUD Editor, launching first as a beta feature for PC.

Players will finally be able to:

• Drag UI elements anywhere on screen

• Separate trackers

• Rearrange resource bars

• Customize quest tracking

• Access related settings directly from each HUD element

Even better, HUD layouts are now account-wide, meaning players only need to configure their interface once.

Future plans may include:

• Character-specific profiles

• Vertical resource bars

• Additional customization options

Console support is planned later.

Level-Up Rewards Are Being Reworked

ESO's level-up experience is also receiving adjustments.

Some outdated rewards, such as unnecessary respec scrolls, are being removed.

The developers also want to better prepare new players before introducing group dungeons.

While details remain unclear, the intention is to ensure players understand combat mechanics before jumping into multiplayer content.

HUGE Changes Coming to ESO in Update 51 p1

Hybridization Is Finally Complete

ESO's long-running hybridization project reaches its conclusion.

Notable changes include:

• The Warrior Mundus now increases both Weapon and Spell Damage.

• The Apprentice Mundus now grants increased Experience Gain and Crafting Inspiration.

This experience bonus also stacks with:

• Experience scrolls

• Dungeon finder rewards

• Quest rewards

Several new alchemy ingredients are also being added to support upcoming potion combinations.

Companion Helmets Are Finally Here

A small feature, but one players have requested for years.

Companions can now wear helmets.

While cosmetic, it gives players far greater control over companion appearances.

Solo Dungeons Arrive

One of Update 51's largest gameplay additions is Solo Dungeons.

These are redesigned versions of existing dungeons built specifically for solo play.

Players can:

• Experience dungeon stories alone

• Replay dungeon quests repeatedly

• Choose multiple difficulty modifiers

• Earn exclusive rewards

Rather than simply increasing enemy health, difficulty comes from optional challenge modifiers.

Examples include:

• Enemies dealing double damage

• Major debuffs applied to players

• Dungeon-specific challenges

Higher difficulty settings increase reward quality.

Exclusive Monster Masks will also be available only through Solo Dungeons.

Introducing the Nowhere Vault

Previously known as Sage's Vault, the newly renamed Nowhere Vault may be the most creative content ESO has introduced in years.

Unlike traditional dungeons, the Vault mixes:

• Combat

• Stealth

• Platforming

• Puzzle solving

• Exploration

• Traversal challenges

The Vault can be done with anywhere from one to four players, and only one player needs a key to open each run, making group play especially rewarding.

Randomized Wings and Rooms

The Vault launches with three separate wings, and each of these wings features randomized rooms and objectives, ensuring that no two runs feel identical.

Some rooms emphasize:

• Puzzle solving

• Exploration

• Hidden treasures

• Environmental hazards

Others focus entirely on stealth or movement.

Unique Challenge Rooms

Some standout examples include:

Hunt of the Watchers

Players must sneak through an area filled with invulnerable enemies that cannot be defeated.

Instead, success depends entirely on stealth and careful navigation.

Fungal Chasm

Essentially a platforming challenge.

Players dodge poisonous plants, leap across hazards, discover hidden pathways, and utilize movement abilities to reach the exit.

Checkpoints ensure mistakes aren't overly punishing.

Moonlit Isles

Timed bridge puzzles require activating switches before racing across disappearing platforms.

Exploration is just as important as speed.

Sinking Courtyard

Players avoid tornadoes, sinking sand, and environmental hazards while collecting objectives before time runs out.

Hidden Secrets Encourage Exploration

The Vault isn't just about finishing rooms.

Players are encouraged to thoroughly search every area for:

• Hidden treasure chests

• Skyshards

• Secret collectibles

• Special NPC interactions

• Puzzle clues

The randomized nature of each run greatly improves replayability.

Jackpot Rooms

One particularly exciting feature is the addition of extremely rare Jackpot Rooms.

These special rooms can contain:

Resource Rooms

Filled with:

• Mining Resource

• Heavy sacks

• Crafting resources

Treasure Vaults

Packed with:

• Treasure chests

• Gold

• Valuable loot

Finding one feels like winning the lottery inside the Vault.

Exclusive Rewards

The Nowhere Vault offers an impressive collection of rewards.

Players can obtain:

• Mythic item components

• Skill styles

• Collectibles

• Cosmetics

• Unique treasures

Perhaps the most notable reward is an exclusive mount earned by uncovering one of the Vault's hidden mysteries.

Final Thoughts

Update 51 may not be the largest content expansion in ESO's history, but it could become one of its most impactful updates.

Rather than focusing solely on adding new zones or storylines, this update addresses years of player feedback while introducing fresh gameplay systems that push ESO beyond its traditional dungeon formula.

The Antiquities overhaul dramatically reduces unnecessary grinding, HUD customization finally gives PC players the flexibility they've wanted for years, achievement pinning streamlines long-term progression, and Solo Dungeons provide a fresh challenge for players who prefer tackling content alone.

The biggest wildcard, however, is undoubtedly the Nowhere Vault. Its blend of puzzles, stealth, exploration, randomized rooms, and unique rewards feels unlike anything currently available in ESO. If executed well, it could become one of the game's most replayable activities.

Overall, Update 51 represents a thoughtful evolution of The Elder Scrolls Online—one that prioritizes player convenience, experimentation, and long-term replayability. Whether you're a veteran adventurer or someone just stepping into Tamriel for the first time, there's plenty to look forward to when the update finally arrives.
