Gold can disappear surprisingly quickly in No Rest for the Wicked. Between repairing damaged equipment, upgrading weapons, and paying for useful services, even a decent pile of coins may not last long.

If you're short on money, you don't necessarily need to spend hours killing the same enemies. Some of the better ways to earn gold fit naturally into normal progression, while others become more useful once you've unlocked endgame activities.

Here are four methods worth trying, along with a few things you should avoid selling or spending your gold on.

No Rest for the Wicked Gold Farming Guide: Best Ways to Earn Gold

1. Sell Unwanted Equipment for Extra Gold

Selling equipment is one of the easiest ways to turn the loot you collect into spendable currency. Enemies and containers can provide weapons, armor, and other items that you may not need for your current build.

Before selling something, check its stats and enchantments. A weapon that looks weaker at first might suit a different build, while an item with a useful effect could be worth keeping for later.

I would start with duplicate equipment and pieces you've already replaced. There's little reason to keep several items you'll never use when you could turn them into gold for repairs or other expenses.

A few things are worth checking before you sell:

  • Weapons and armor: Keep the pieces that fit your build or offer useful alternatives. Sell the ones you've outgrown.

  • Crafting materials: Check whether you need them for an upcoming recipe or upgrade before selling them.

  • Rare resources: Don't sell these just because you need quick cash. Some materials have important uses beyond their vendor value.

The advantage of this method is that you don't need a dedicated farming route. You can collect loot during normal exploration and sell the excess when your inventory starts filling up.

2. Complete Captain Randolph's Bounties and Challenges

If you're looking for something more structured than wandering around for loot, visit Captain Randolph in Sacrament.

Randolph offers rotating daily bounties and weekly challenges. These can involve defeating particular enemies or completing other objectives, giving you another reason to revisit areas and fight enemies you might otherwise ignore.

To get more value from these activities, check the available objectives before heading out. If a bounty matches the enemies or area you're already planning to visit, you can work toward both goals during the same trip.

For example, if an objective requires defeating a particular enemy type, try to complete it while exploring the relevant area rather than making a separate journey just for the bounty.

Keep these points in mind:

  • Check your objectives first. Choose tasks that fit your current progression and combat ability.

  • Combine bounties with exploration. You can collect loot and materials while working toward the objective.

  • Don't assume every task is equally worthwhile. Consider the reward, travel time, and difficulty before committing to a more demanding challenge.

Randolph's activities aren't just about gold. They can also support your wider progression, making them worth checking regularly instead of relying entirely on random drops.

3. Farm Enemies While Exploring Isola Sacra

Fighting enemies is an obvious way to collect loot, but repeatedly clearing a difficult area isn't always the best use of your time.

If you're still progressing through the game, focus on areas you can handle comfortably. Defeating enemies along your normal route lets you collect equipment and other drops without taking unnecessary detours.

Exploration also gives you a chance to find containers and materials that you might miss if you rush straight toward your next objective.

Here's how I'd approach a farming session:

  1. Pick an area where you can defeat most enemies without using too many healing supplies.

  2. Explore side paths and check containers as you move through the area.

  3. Collect useful equipment and materials instead of focusing only on currency.

  4. Return to Sacrament when you have enough loot to sort through.

  5. Sell unwanted equipment and keep the items needed for your next upgrade.

The important part is knowing when to stop. If an area is taking too long to clear or you're spending too much on equipment repairs, move on to something more manageable.

You can also revisit previously explored areas, but don't assume every location will provide the same rewards or that repeating a route will always be profitable. Your results depend on the enemies you encounter, the items you collect, and the time you spend.

4. Earn Gold Through Cerim Crucible in the Endgame

Once you reach the appropriate stage of progression, Cerim Crucible offers another way to earn rewards.

The Crucible is a roguelite combat activity built around a sequence of chambers containing enemies and increasingly challenging encounters. Your performance determines how far you progress, so your build and survival matter as much as your damage output.

During a run, you can collect Traces and use them for temporary benefits within the Crucible. Gloamseeds serve a different purpose: unlocking permanent Crucible-related services and upgrades.

Don't confuse either resource with ordinary spendable gold.

For gold farming, the main benefit comes from the equipment and loot you earn from successful runs. You can then sell unwanted rewards, while useful pieces may improve your build and make later runs easier.

Before making the Crucible your main farming activity, consider the following:

  • Make sure your build is ready. If you struggle against the enemies, improving your equipment first may be more productive.

  • Choose temporary upgrades carefully. Favor effects that help your build survive and deal consistent damage.

  • Evaluate the rewards after each run. Keep useful gear and sell items that don't contribute to your setup.

  • Account for repair costs. A difficult run isn't automatically worthwhile if the time and expenses outweigh the rewards.

Cerim Crucible suits players who are comfortable with the combat system. If you're still working through the main progression, selling unwanted loot and completing bounties are more accessible starting points.
