EverQuest Legends has been available for about a month, and many players have already progressed deep into the game. As more players approach the endgame, the biggest question is naturally: What comes next for EverQuest Legends?

The development roadmap already gives us a good idea of what is ahead. From revamped zones and brand-new custom areas to reincarnation, new races, and future expansions, EverQuest Legends appears to have a long-term plan for keeping players engaged. Here is everything currently known about the future of EverQuest Legends and what players can expect from upcoming content. The content is from Redbeardflynn’s YouTube video.

EverQuest Legends Roadmap: New Zones, Expansions and Future Content

More Revamped Zones Are Coming

One of the main parts of the EverQuest Legends development plan is the continued revamp of existing zones. Before launch, several classic zones, including Befallen, Blackburrow, and Splitpaw, were revamped with new named enemies and new loot. Since launch, additional mid-level zones such as Mistmoore and Unrest have also received updates. The upcoming revamps are expected to move toward higher-level content. Permafrost is one of the zones confirmed for a future revamp, with plans to turn it into a higher-tier area that can provide an alternative to Soul B.

More zones may also receive similar treatment in future patches. Some of these updates could be announced relatively close to their release, meaning the roadmap may still contain surprises. While revamped zones bring new enemies, loot, and encounters, the more exciting part of the roadmap may be the completely new zones being developed specifically for EverQuest Legends.

New Custom Zones Will Expand the Leveling Experience

EverQuest Legends is also preparing several custom zones that will provide players with new places to level and explore.

Rujarkian Hills

Rujarkian Hills is planned as an open-world zone designed for players around the mid-30s through level 50. The zone should provide additional leveling options and give players more reasons to explore areas outside the traditional progression path.

Nektropos Castle

Another major addition is Nektropos Castle, expected in the fall. This city-type zone will also include leveling opportunities and is particularly interesting because it reimagines a famous EverQuest 2 location within the EverQuest setting. However, EverQuest Legends has its own timeline, which differs from both EverQuest and EverQuest 2. As a result, the developers have the freedom to reinterpret existing locations and lore rather than simply reproducing the original versions.

Nektropos Castle is also expected to introduce a new playable race. The exact race has not yet been confirmed, although there has been speculation that it could be vampire-related because suitable models already exist in the game. For players who have already reached level 50, the new race should provide another reason to start a new character and experience the game from a different perspective.

A Major Winter Content Update and Future Expansion Plans

A major content update is planned for the winter. Depending on the development schedule, this could arrive toward the end of the year or in early 2027. At that point, Kunark is expected to become part of the expansion progression, with changes to the content similar to the way Classic content has been adapted.

One important difference is that players will be charged a fee for Kunark and Velious. This has already generated mixed reactions. On one hand, developing new content requires resources, and expansion revenue could help fund future development and potentially allow the EverQuest Legends team to grow. On the other hand, many players coming from EverQuest progression servers may be accustomed to a different model where expansions were generally included as part of the progression experience. According to the current plans, the paid expansion model will apply to Kunark and Velious, while the development direction after that is expected to change.

Reincarnation Will Give Max-Level Players a New Progression System

One of the most interesting features on the roadmap is Reincarnation, which is also planned for the winter. The system will allow players to take their current three classes and race back to level 1. In effect, much of the character's normal progression will be reset. However, important long-term progression such as AA levels and other permanent elements will remain.

The major reward comes from the character's stat progression. During the first reincarnation, existing hard stat caps will become soft caps. Each subsequent reincarnation can increase those caps further, allowing characters to become progressively more powerful.

This creates a progression loop similar to systems found in many action RPGs:

  • Reach the end of your current progression.
  • Reincarnate and return to level 1.
  • Level your character again using your accumulated advantages.
  • Gain higher stat caps and additional power.
  • Repeat the process for further progression.

The system may appeal particularly strongly to hardcore players who enjoy continuously improving their characters. For more casual players, repeatedly leveling from 1 may be less attractive. However, the process should become easier thanks to previously acquired gear and AA progression. It would also be interesting if future versions of the system included additional rewards such as titles or cosmetic items, giving players something more than raw statistical power to work toward.

Prepare for Reincarnation

Reincarnation will give players a reason to level again, making resources increasingly important for long-term progression. EverQuest Legends Platinum can help support your next character journey, allowing you to spend less time farming currency and more time leveling, gearing, and exploring new content.

Group Experience Has Also Been Improved

Another important change is an adjustment to group experience. The goal is to make grouping more attractive, particularly for players who may have completed earlier progression primarily through solo play. This could be especially useful for players beginning another run through the game, as grouping with friends provides an alternative way to experience familiar content while progressing toward higher levels.

What Happens After Velious?

The long-term expansion plan becomes less certain after Velious. The developers have indicated that future expansions may maintain EverQuest Legends' existing graphical identity while gradually diverging from the original EverQuest. In other words, players should not necessarily expect the traditional progression of Classic → Velious → Luclin → later expansions. Instead, EverQuest Legends may eventually establish its own lore, zones, and content after the confirmed expansion plans. This approach could give the development team considerably more freedom to create original experiences rather than simply recreating decades of existing EverQuest content.

However, creating completely new expansions with the depth and scale of classic EverQuest is a significant challenge. During EverQuest's peak years, the game was one of the largest MMOs in the world, supported by a much larger development environment. Recreating that level of content from scratch would require substantial resources. For that reason, whether EverQuest Legends can eventually produce original expansions with the same depth as classic EverQuest remains an open question.

EverQuest Legends Could Bring Back Meaningful Armor Identity

One particularly exciting possibility is the return of stronger armor identity. Classic EverQuest and Velious were known for armor designs with distinctive textures and visual identities. Different sets could immediately communicate where they came from and what kind of progression they represented. Over time, however, armor design in the original EverQuest became more visually homogenized. The transition to newer graphical models also changed the overall appearance of the game, while many armor designs remained visually similar for years. Cosmetic armor eventually provided more customization, but these cosmetics often function primarily as store-based visual items rather than meaningful representations of progression.

EverQuest Legends has already demonstrated an ability to adapt and create different textures for races and existing assets. That could allow future expansions to introduce armor with much stronger visual identities. This would make gear progression about more than simply asking whether one item has better stats than another. Players could also care about how an armor set looks, where it came from, and what part of the game's progression it represents. That kind of visual progression could become an important part of EverQuest Legends' identity.

More Playable Races and Classes Could Be Added

New races and classes are also possibilities for the future. The game has already demonstrated that new playable races can be introduced. Existing examples include Froglok and Kerran, with Kerran representing a new playable race rather than simply reusing a traditional EverQuest playable-race design. The upcoming Nektropos Castle content is expected to introduce another playable race.

Beyond that, there are numerous NPC models that could potentially be adapted into playable races. Possibilities could include different dwarf variants, Sarnak, or even more unusual creatures. Because the development team has already established a pipeline for adapting models and textures, the range of potential future races is quite large. New classes are also possible, although the current roadmap provides less certainty about when or how they might be introduced.

What Does the Future Look Like for EverQuest Legends?

Overall, the future of EverQuest Legends looks promising, particularly for players who enjoy long-term character progression. The developers appear to be taking an approach that goes beyond simply pushing players toward a single endgame. Instead, the goal is to give players reasons to return to earlier areas, explore revamped zones, level additional characters, experiment with different races and classes, and eventually use systems such as Reincarnation to continue progressing.

The biggest challenge will be keeping older content relevant. Once a player reaches the endgame, returning to a mid-level zone currently offers limited gearing incentives. Players can still gain experience, but a high-level character running through older content with a trio may have little reason to care about the zone's loot. Solving this issue could make the game's long-term progression considerably stronger.

Possible solutions could include rare items, chase rewards, unique gear, or other valuable collectibles that encourage high-level players to explore older areas. The ideal system would give players a reason to return to revamped zones even after reaching the endgame, rather than making them useful only for leveling.

Final Thoughts

EverQuest Legends is still relatively new, but its roadmap suggests that the game is being designed as a long-term MMORPG rather than a short progression experience. The immediate future includes more zone revamps, Rujarkian Hills, Nektropos Castle, a new playable race, and a major winter content update. Further ahead, players can expect Kunark and Velious, while the Reincarnation system could provide a new form of long-term character progression.

The biggest unknown is what comes after Velious. If the developers successfully transition from adapting classic EverQuest content to creating their own zones, lore, races, classes, and expansions, EverQuest Legends could eventually develop an identity of its own. For now, the combination of new content, revamped zones, additional progression systems, and potential future races gives players plenty to look forward to.
