How to Acquire Rare Pokemon like Dragonite in Pokemon Go

By Delia Woolf2016-09-22

As you play Pokemon Go, you'll be preoccupied with three goals; leveling your Trainer as high as you can, evolving and powering up your creatures to attack and defend Gyms, and filling out your Pokedex with new, rare Pokemon. You'll find that all three are connected, as the higher your trainer level, the higher your chances of finding rare Pokemon become, and in many cases, rarer Pokemon tend to be the best in Pokemon Go.

Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Dragonite and even Pikachu are examples of rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Players of these game from around the world are desperately searching for these rare Pokemon in their neighborhood. Here are some of the game's tips and tricks on finding and catching these Pokemon.

Pikachu tops the list of most wanted rare Pokemon. This cute tiny mouse Pokemon has been loved by everyone ever since its debut, and players want to add it to their Pokedex. For first timers, you can acquire Pikachu easily as your starting Pokemon. This famous trick has been used by several players nowadays. Simply by moving away from the three starter Pokemon during selection, a wild Pikachu will appear after 2-5 re-spawns.

For those who just recently started the game, you can start from the beginning by clearing all the data on the Application Manager. This will allow you to use the 'Pikachu trick'. According to the reports from The Bitbag, Pikachu could be possibly found near parks or railway tracks. However, there is no guarantee that you will find Pikachu on these cited places. The 'Pikachu trick' is still your best option.

Dragonite is next on the list. Why? Originally reported from Mobile & Apps, the site said that Dragonite is the strongest Pokemon in the game right now, apart from being considered as a Legendary Pokemon in the original series. If you want a stronger Pokemon in your line up, then no doubt Dragonite gets that spot. There are a number of ways on how to catch this Dragon type Pokemon. Maybe by catching it instantly or find a Dratini and evolve it to Dragonite later or even have one by hatching your lucky eggs but it is just sheer luck.

Dragonite can be mostly found on the streets or forest but it is likely a rare catch. You can perhaps increase your chances by installing lure modules near PokeStops. But the best chance for you to acquire a Dragonite is to catch a Dratini because it is an easier catch. Dratini can be found on areas near bodies of water like rivers and lakes. It will require 125 Dratini candies for the Dragonite evolution, 25 for Dragonair and 100 for Dragonite.

Exeggutor is also a challenging Pokemon to defeat for many players. However, Exeggutor has a double weakness to Bug Type Moves. Bug Bite is better than Fury Cutter, but either will be effective against Exeggutor. For Charge Moves, Megahorn, Bug Buzz and X-Scissor are very effective against Exeggutor.

Pinsir and Scyther are both good against Exeggutor. Although underpowered CP wise, Butterfree is also a great counter to Exeggutor because of its Movesets. Venomoth and Parasect are good choices as well, but you just have to be careful when using Venomoth as it is vulnerable to Exeggutor's Psychic Type Moves.

Vaporeon is an extremely popular defending Pokemon due to its high CP (and it also because it seems like everyone has two or more to spare). When battling Vaporeon you will want to use either a Grass Type Pokemon or an Electric Type, both of which Vaporeon is vulnerable to. Grass Types are usually the better choice as Water Type Moves from Vaporeon are not very effective against Grass.

The one Move you really want to focus on is Solar Beam! This Move deals a considerable amount of damage, especially to Water Type Pokemon such as Vaporeon. While other Grass Type Moves are effective, you should use a Pokemon with Solar Beam just soley based on the Moves' high Damage per Second.

These above are all examples of rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go. Whether you're working towards a powerful team, or are curious to know how elusive that Pokemon you just found is, it pays to know what creatures are rare and how to increase your chances of finding them. How to increase your chances of finding rare Pokemon in Pokemon Go

Eggs are Effective Way

Eggs are perhaps the easiest and most effective way of obtaining some of the more elusive creatures on the list, since you can receive Pokemon that might not naturally occur in your local area - even those exclusive to far away regions. As you can probably guess, 10km Eggs can offer rarer Pokemon than 5km and 2km Eggs, but that's guaranteed - you can still find a Zubat or a Drowzee in a 10km Egg. (Commiserations to you if that happens.)

Certain Pokemon is limited to a Relevant Area

Certain Pokemon Types - such as Steel or Fire - can be found in some places rather than others. This can be mostly down to their real-world Type locations; for example, central Brighton (home of the Eurogamer office) is regularly filled with Steel Pokemon such as Magnemite and Voltorb, while a common complaint by some players is all they can catch are Doduos, which are very difficult to find for others. Areas with monuments and museums seem to attract rarer Pokemon, but in general, it pays to travel and explore new players to increase your chances of seeing something new.

Find and Use the Regular Pattern

Clusters of specific rare Pokemon can reappear in a certain spot over and over again over time in Pokemon nests, so read up to see whether there is one of these near you. They can also spawn individually too; for example, my local golf club seems to spawn Jigglypuff in around the same place fairly frequently. Observe your local area over time and learn where hotspots tend to be.

Candy is Useful

Evolved Pokemon are rarer than their pre-evolved counterparts, but can still be caught in the wild. Some of the more powerful Pokemon in the game have been caught out in the wild by Eurogamer staff, including a Blastoise and a Dragonite. The advantage of catching a fully evolved Pokemon is you save a lot of Candy on each evolution stage, which can be better spent on powering up instead.

It's also important to remember that just because a Pokemon is easy to find doesn't meant it can't be put to good use, as some of the most common creatures in the game - Pidgey, Weedle and Caterpie - can be used for incredibly fast and easy XP gains, which in turn, can help you find rarer Pokemon.
