WoW Forever significantly expands the role of professions compared with Classic WoW. In addition to crafting and gathering, professions now provide character bonuses and unique perks that can benefit players during leveling, PvE, PvP, and gold making. With more than 600 new recipes reportedly being added across the profession system, choosing the right professions can make a meaningful difference to your character and playstyle. This guide, shared by Hazpataz on his YouTube channel, reviews the main WoW Forever professions and evaluates their usefulness for gold making, leveling, endgame PvE, and PvP.

Choosing a profession is one of the best ways to build a steady income in WoW Forever, but having enough gold on hand can make it easier to level professions, purchase materials, and prepare for endgame content. If you want to save time farming, buy classic+ gold from MmoGah and get the currency you need to support your character progression.

The ratings above reflect each profession's overall utility. Secondary professions are treated differently because they can be learned alongside the main professions.

Mining

Mining is one of the strongest gathering professions in WoW Forever. It provides ores and gems that are commonly used by Blacksmithing and Engineering, while excess materials can be sold directly. Ores and metals are expected to be particularly valuable during the early stages of the game, giving Mining strong gold-making potential. Mining also provides a significant character bonus. At skill level 300, players can gain 5% increased maximum health, making it particularly useful for tanks and PvP-focused melee characters.

Mining Campsite Amenities

Mining provides several Campsite amenities, including:

  • Loadstone: Up to 90 Attack Power at level 60 after spending time at the camp.
  • Rock Garden: Provides a similar Attack Power bonus.
  • Molten Foundry: Provides Attack Power and is required for certain crafts and recipes.

Campsite amenity bonuses scale with character level. Tier 1 amenities can be placed at level 4, Tier 2 at level 28, and Tier 3 at level 60. One thing to notice here is that the Attack Power bonus does not stack with a Paladin's Blessing of Might.

Mining Rating

  • Gold Making: S
  • Leveling: A
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: S

Mining is especially attractive for tanks and melee PvP characters because it combines reliable material income with useful character bonuses.

Blacksmithing

Blacksmithing works naturally alongside Mining and focuses on mail and plate gear, sharpening stones, and other equipment-related crafts. One of its most convenient new features is the ability to repair your own equipment, eliminating the need to visit a vendor. This can be particularly useful while leveling or during raids. Furthermore, Blacksmiths can also craft and install special belt buckles that provide additional stats and bonuses.

Blacksmithing Campsite Amenities

Blacksmithing provides:

  • Sharpening Wheel: Up to 34 Strength at level 60.
  • Anvil: Allows Blacksmithing items to be crafted at the Campsite.
  • Master Forge: Required for certain advanced crafts and recipes.

The Sharpening Wheel bonus does not stack with a Shaman's corresponding totem.

Gold-Making Potential

Blacksmithing has historically required a large amount of ore, and many crafted items may become outdated quickly because players can obtain gear from dungeons. As a result, the profession may require substantial investment before generating meaningful profits, although powerful endgame recipes could change its value later in the game.

Blacksmithing Rating

  • Gold Making: F
  • Leveling: C
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: A

Blacksmithing is particularly suitable for plate-wearing characters who can directly benefit from its equipment and bonuses.

Engineering

Engineering has traditionally been one of the most powerful professions in Classic WoW because of its unique devices, gadgets, and trinkets. WoW Forever continues to support these distinctive Engineering tools, including the Gnomish and Goblin specializations. However, unlike some other professions, Engineering does not receive additional major character buffs.

Engineering Campsite Amenities

Engineering Campsite options include:

  • Reagent Bot: Available at level 4 for purchasing reagents and selling junk.
  • Repair Bot: Available at level 28.
  • Anarchist's Workbench: Available at level 60 and required for certain crafts and recipes.

Engineering can still make money from items such as ammunition, scopes, mechanical devices, and trinkets. However, many Engineering items require Engineering skill to use, limiting the potential customer base.

Engineering Rating

  • Gold Making: C+
  • Leveling: C
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: S

Engineering's value becomes much more obvious at endgame. Items such as Sapper Charges, Rocket Boots, and stun-related devices can provide powerful utility, particularly in PvP.

Herbalism

Herbalism is another gathering profession and provides the raw materials required by Alchemy. At skill level 300, Herbalism provides +10 to all resistances, which can be useful in both raids and PvP. Herbs can also be sold on the Auction House, giving Herbalism consistent gold-making potential.

Herbalism Campsite Amenities

Herbalists can access several useful Campsite features:

  • Incense Candles: Provide up to +25 Intellect at level 60.
  • Greenhouse: Available at level 28 and allows herbs to be planted and harvested.
  • Seed Hybridizer: Available at level 60 and can produce rarer types of herbs from seeds.

The Intellect bonus does not stack with a Mage's corresponding buff.

Herbalism Rating

  • Gold Making: A
  • Leveling: B
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: B

Herbalism is a solid choice for players who want a combination of passive character utility and reliable material income.

Alchemy

Alchemy uses herbs gathered through Herbalism and focuses on potions, elixirs, and flasks. One major benefit is that Alchemists receive increased potency and duration from the same elixirs and flasks compared with non-Alchemists. The Philosopher's Stone is also upgraded into a trinket that grows with the character as they level.

Alchemy Campsite Amenities

Alchemy provides:

  • Mana Well: Available at level 4 and provides up to 29 mana per 5 seconds.
  • Fermenter: Available at level 28 and provides Alchemy-specific reagents and similar mana regeneration.
  • Alchemy Laboratory: Available at level 60 and required for certain crafts such as flasks.

The mana regeneration bonus does not stack with Blessing of Wisdom.

Gold-Making Potential

Alchemy has particularly strong gold-making potential because its products can generally be sold to and used by other players. The profession can also work well on an alt. An Alchemy alt can produce consumables for a main character while the main character takes another profession for its unique bonuses.

Alchemy Rating

  • Gold Making: A+
  • Leveling: A for mana-focused classes; lower for non-mana users
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: D

Alchemy is especially valuable for raiding because of its consumables and increased flask potency and duration. Its value is more limited in PvP, where fights are often short and consumable effects may disappear upon death.

Tailoring

Tailoring and Enchanting are relatively independent professions because neither requires a dedicated gathering profession. Tailors can create special cloak embroideries with stronger effects than standard enchants, although these effects do not stack with regular cloak enchants. Tailors also receive additional cloth from defeated humanoids, making it easier to gather the materials required for Tailoring and First Aid.

Tailoring Campsite Amenities

Tailoring provides:

  • Faction Banner: Available at level 4 and provides up to 32 Spirit at level 60.
  • Spinning Wheel: Available at level 28 and provides Tailoring-specific materials and reagents.
  • Loom: Available at level 60 and required for special cloth and other recipes.

Tailoring also provides access to bags, which are expected to remain in demand, particularly during the early stages of the game.

Tailoring Rating

  • Gold Making: B (bags)
  • Leveling: A
  • Endgame PvE: B
  • PvP: B

The increased Spirit and self-crafted gear make Tailoring a useful option for leveling-focused characters.

Enchanting

Enchanting is one of the most versatile professions in WoW Forever. Enchanters can enchant their own rings with Spell Power, Attack Power, or Health, and only Enchanters can use these ring enchants on their own characters. They can also craft staves and wands and convert a small shard into a large shard once every 20 hours. One of the major changes is that Enchanters can sell enchants through the Auction House, instead of having to enchant another player's gear in person.

Disenchanting and Gold Making

Enchanting can turn unwanted gear into dust and shards, which are valuable crafting materials. This creates several potential income streams:

  • Selling enchants through the Auction House
  • Selling dust and shards
  • Disenchanting unwanted equipment
  • Crafting specialized items

Because Enchanting does not require a dedicated gathering profession, it can also be paired with another independent profession.

Enchanting Campsite Amenities

Enchanters gain:

  • Enchanted Lute: Up to 308 Armor, +13 to all stats, and +22 to all resistances as their Tier 1 Campsite Amenity.
  • Arcane Salvager: Available at level 28 and increases the materials obtained from disenchanting.
  • Arcane Forge: Available at level 60 and required for certain recipes.

The Enchanted Lute buff does not stack with a Druid's Mark of the Wild.

Enchanting Rating

  • Gold Making: S
  • Leveling: S
  • Endgame PvE: A
  • PvP: A

Enchanting combines strong personal bonuses with multiple ways to generate gold, making it one of the most broadly useful professions.

Skinning

Skinning is designed to work with Leatherworking, but its benefits are comparatively limited. The profession provides 5% increased damage against Beasts and Dragonkin. While useful in situations involving those enemy types, this bonus is narrower than the benefits offered by several other professions. Leather materials can also be sold, although their profit margins lower than those of many other raw resources.

Skinning Campsite Amenities

Skinning provides:

  • Camp Chair: 2% Critical Strike at Tier 1.
  • Field Guide: Allows players to track Beasts for one hour.
  • Trapper's Workbench: Available at level 60 and required for certain recipes and crafts.

Skinning Rating

  • Gold Making: C
  • Leveling: C
  • Endgame PvE: D
  • PvP: F

Skinning may still be useful for players who want to gather leather while leveling, but its combat benefits are relatively specialized.

Leatherworking

Leatherworking complements Skinning and focuses on leather armor, armor kits, and related crafts. A major benefit is a permanent mount speed increase of up to 5%, although the bonus does not become available until level 40. Leatherworkers can also create armor kits, including bracer upgrades that provide temporary bonuses and can stack with standard enchants.

Leatherworking Campsite Amenities

Leatherworking Campsite progression includes:

  • Camp Tent: At level 4, provides 5% Rested XP after spending one minute at the camp.
  • Tanning Rack: Available at level 28 and provides Leatherworking reagents.
  • Sewing Machine: Available at level 60 and required for certain crafts.

The Rested XP bonus is relatively small, especially during early leveling, and becomes irrelevant after reaching level 60.

Leatherworking Rating

  • Gold Making: B
  • Leveling: B
  • Endgame PvE: D
  • PvP: D

Leatherworking may become more attractive if future updates increase the strength of its bonuses or add more powerful recipes.

Secondary Professions in WoW Forever

In addition to the main professions, WoW Forever includes three secondary professions:

  • Cooking
  • First Aid
  • Fishing

Unlike the main professions, these can be learned without the same profession-slot restrictions. This makes them highly worthwhile additions to almost any character.

Cooking

Cooking provides food that grants stat bonuses, temporary buffs, and experience-related benefits. One of the notable effects is the Well Fed bonus, which can provide up to 5% additional experience, making Cooking particularly valuable while leveling. Cooking is also fundamental to the Campsite system because its campfires allow players to place other profession amenities.

Cooking Campsite Progression

  • Basic Campfire: Level 4; allows up to three other amenities.
  • Journeyman Campfire: Level 28; allows up to five.
  • Expert Campfire: Level 60; allows up to ten.

Without Cooking, other profession Campsite bonuses cannot be fully utilized.

First Aid

First Aid provides access to health potions, healing items, and anti-venom-related consumables. Its Campsite bonus provides up to +56 Stamina at level 60. The Stamina bonus does not stack with a Priest's Fortitude. First Aid can therefore provide useful additional sustain and survivability, particularly during leveling.

Fishing

Fishing remains a gathering-focused secondary profession, but WoW Forever expands its role with additional fishing content. Players can fish in normal locations as well as lava, using one of two specialized fishing poles. Fishing also includes daily quests and Campsite bonuses.

The Tier 1 fishing upgrade (Fish Bowl) provides 8% increased stats, although this does not stack with a Paladin's Blessing of Kings. Higher-tier upgrades (Fishing Rack & Fishing Hut) allow players to catch uncommon and rare-quality fish, adding additional progression to the profession.

Which WoW Forever Profession Should You Choose?

The best profession combination ultimately depends on your class, playstyle, and goals.

For gold making, gathering professions such as Mining and Herbalism provide direct access to valuable raw materials, while Alchemy and Enchanting offer strong opportunities to turn materials and crafted items into profit.

For leveling, professions with direct combat or resource benefits can provide additional value. Mining, Tailoring, Alchemy, and Enchanting all offer useful bonuses, while Cooking is an important secondary profession because of its food and experience benefits.

For PvE, professions that provide strong combat bonuses, consumables, or powerful endgame items become more valuable. Mining, Blacksmithing, Engineering, Herbalism, Alchemy, and Enchanting all have specific advantages.

For PvP, Engineering and Mining stand out in the assessment, while Enchanting and Herbalism can also provide useful character bonuses.

The Campsite system adds another layer to profession choices. Since different professions provide different amenities and buffs, players may want to consider not only their own profession bonuses but also how their professions fit into a larger group or guild setup.

Final Thoughts

WoW Forever gives professions a much larger role in character progression. Rather than functioning only as crafting and gathering systems, professions now provide personal buffs, Campsite amenities, utility, consumables, and additional progression. Enchanting, Mining, Engineering, Alchemy, and Herbalism all offer different combinations of economic and gameplay benefits, while secondary professions such as Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing can provide additional value without requiring the same profession-slot commitment.

As WoW Forever develops, profession balance may change with new recipes, adjustments, and future patches. For now, understanding the bonuses and Campsite features of each profession is an important part of planning your character's progression.
