Someone wise once said, “If what you're after is having fun, don't get any stronger.” Well, this build is so strong it's almost no longer fun. Almost. Welcome to Build Showcase. Today we're looking at Alohaa’s Luminary Facebreaker.
It uses the new Scion Ascendancy to hire a cheerleader who turns our fists into the heaviest matter in Wraeclast. The core interaction of this build involves hiring a mercenary with Rallying Cry, a skill that grants a percentage of your weapon’s damage as flat damage to allies. This damage scales off enemy power, meaning it becomes even more effective around higher‑rarity enemies like rares and bosses.
The Core Damage Engine
Let’s look at how Alohaa has maximized this interaction. First, we need to give our buddy a very large piece of equipment—our emotional support axe. When the mercenary uses Rallying Cry, we gain a significant percentage of that weapon’s damage as flat damage. This character is using Facebreakers, friend‑inspired fisticuffs that multiply the flat damage gained from Rallying Cry. With the runegraft improving the numbers up to 12 times, we end up with around 6,000 flat damage.
To further enhance Rallying Cry, Alohaa has “decked” their mercenary—one drink for every comment on my accent—with additional warcry effect. They’re using this anointment, that anointment, and several warcry‑effect mods on their boots and body armour. The helmet also features Soul Crown, which boosts the power value counted by warcries. It’s worth noting that the mercenary doesn’t deal meaningful damage themselves; they exist purely as a walking, screaming axe‑holder providing support and motivation.
Alohaa has also added crit scaling to the interaction. The fractured mod on the helmet grants critical strike chance based on each warcry you’re running—and Alohaa has five warcries set up. To ensure this crit bonus remains active at all times, the passive tree is filled with tattoos that provide warcry recovery, allowing you to cry constantly. With a Runegraft of the Warp, you can cry even longer, which is interesting because tattoos and crying are also my plan for this evening. Alohaa notes that once the rest of the gear is strong enough, you can eventually equip the Seven Teachings unique armour.
Primary Skill Choice
All of this, and we haven’t even mentioned our primary skill yet. Earthshatter is a slam that creates spikes which can be detonated with warcries. You could use several melee skills here, but Alohaa chose Earthshatter specifically for its warcry synergy and the access to crit scaling from the helmet mod.
The Tri‑Jewel Powerhouse
Regarding the skill tree, Alohaa is using a powerful tri‑jewel combo around the Scion start:
- Light of Meaning causes all passive skills in its radius to grant additional physical damage.
- Overlapping that radius is Unnatural Instinct, which grants all bonuses from small passives without allocating them.
- Overlapping both is Might of the Meek, which increases the effect of those passives.
- This combination accounts for nearly half of the build’s total damage.
The rest of the tree focuses on crit, physical damage (with Elegant Hubris helping both damage and attribute requirements), warcry nodes, and block nodes.
Summary of the Playstyle
So in summary, this build involves looking over your buddy’s massive axe, you scream, he screams, and then you punch everything into dust. Of course, staying alive is important—otherwise your buddy will be left alone in the world.
Defensive Layers
Using Forbidden Flesh and Flame, we can pick up the Ascendant Juggernaut passive, which solves accuracy issues and provides valuable immunities and endurance charge bonuses. Shock immunity comes from Tempest Shield, while freeze immunity is crafted onto the boots. This build eats ailments for breakfast—without milk.
The boxing gloves are enchanted with damage reduction based on rage. The angrier you are, the less you feel. Therapy would help, but there’s no room for that when we’re busy min‑maxing our trauma.
Alohaa has also given the mercenary a Kaom’s Binding, converting some incoming enemy damage into fire damage, which is easier to mitigate.
Lastly, if you’ve got more PoE currency, the Svalinn Shield is an excellent option for lucky block chance. Otherwise, the build caps block at 75% and stacks plenty of spell block as well. If you want to look like the particular hero who inspired the build, this MTX setup is the closest match—though we still don’t have a bald MTX, and I think it’s about time.
