1. Understanding the Genus System in Aion 2
If your combat power is lower than that of other players, the Genus system and Stigma skills are two areas worth improving. The Genus system allows you to develop additional stats through different pet families, helping you increase your character's overall combat power.
The Genus system has five wheels, one for each pet family, with each wheel containing 10 rows of stats. When you first unlock the system, only three stat rows are available, meaning the wheel starts at Level 3. Your main goal is to level up the Genus wheels to Level 10 before focusing on rolling for your preferred stats. Once a wheel reaches a higher level, you can continue rerolling its stats and locking the ones you want to keep.
Developing the Genus system requires Genus Crystals and Aion 2 Kina. Since the crystals are limited resources, knowing where to obtain them and which monsters to farm can help you make progress more efficiently. Leonis shared a guide on his YouTube channel, pointing out the locations we should farm in. Let’s dive in.

2. Genus Crystals: Types and How They Work
Each regular pet family has its own corresponding Genus Crystal. These crystals are used to analyze the associated Genus wheel and gain experience toward leveling it up.
The four regular crystal types are:
- Cogni: Blue crystals
- Fera: Red crystals
- Natura: Green crystals
- Varian: Yellow crystals
The fifth family is special because its pets cannot be obtained directly in the game world. Instead, they are available through shops, such as the Season Pass shop. The Swift Lugi pet is one example shown in the game. This distinction is important when managing your crystal supply. Regular crystals can be farmed by defeating the corresponding monsters, but the special family does not have the same in-game monster farming source.
What Are Rainbow Crystals?
Rainbow Crystals are a more flexible resource because they can be used on any of the Genus wheels. When you run out of a wheel's corresponding regular crystals, the system can use Rainbow Crystals instead. However, Rainbow Crystals are relatively rare, so spending them on regular families may not be the best long-term strategy. So, you can save Rainbow Crystals for the special Genus wheel, since its pets cannot be farmed from ordinary monsters in the game world.
How to Get Rainbow Crystals
There are several sources of Rainbow Crystals:
- Hidden Cubes: Find Hidden Cubes on the map and open them for a chance to obtain Rainbow Crystals. A cube can provide 1,000 crystals.
- Shugo Festival Shop: Check the event shop for available Rainbow Crystals.
- Monthly Membership Shop: Rainbow Crystals can be purchased through the membership shop.
- Achievements: Check the Exploration and Shugo Festival achievement sections for crystal rewards.
Check these sources regularly to build up your supply without relying entirely on monster farming.
3. How to Level Up Genus Wheels and Lock Stats
The Genus system has two main stages: leveling up each wheel and rolling for desirable stats.
Step 1: Level Up Your Genus Wheels
Use the corresponding Genus Crystals and Kina to analyze a wheel. Each analysis provides some experience and randomly rerolls the wheel's stat rows.
Step 2: Roll for Your Preferred Stats
Once a wheel has reached a high level, you can start optimizing its stats. Each stat row has a lock option. Locking a stat preserves it during subsequent analyses, allowing you to reroll the remaining unlocked rows without losing the stats you have already secured.
A practical approach is to:
1. Analyze the wheel to roll a new set of stats.
2. Check the available stats and their ranges.
3. Lock the stats that are valuable for your build.
4. Continue analyzing to improve the remaining unlocked rows.
5. Repeat until you are satisfied with the results.
This process requires patience and a steady supply of crystals. Avoid spending your limited Rainbow Crystals too freely, especially if you still need them for the special Genus wheel.
4. How to Farm Genus Crystals Efficiently
Besides obtaining crystals from rewards, you can farm them by defeating monsters associated with each pet family. When you kill monsters from a particular family, you gradually level up your progress against that monster type. Killing approximately 100 monsters brings that type to its maximum level. After the monster type reaches its maximum level, further kills can reward you with crystals instead of additional experience for that type. The key is to focus on one monster type until it reaches its maximum level, then continue farming it for crystals. Choosing a location with many suitable monsters can make this process more efficient while also allowing you to collect Kina and other materials.
5. Best Genus Crystal Farming Locations for Asmodians
Asmodian players can focus on the following locations to farm monsters associated with different Genus families.
|
Genus family |
Recommended location |
Monsters to farm |
|
Cogni |
Immortal Isle, at the shores |
Kerubiel mobs |
|
Fera and Natura |
Shared farming area Spirit Isle |
Kailin, Gravi, Rafflesia, and Water Spirits |
|
Varian |
Dredgion Crash Site |
Congealed Drana and Drana Predators |
Cogni: Immortal Isle
For Cogni progress, head to the shores of Immortal Isle and hunt Kerubiel monsters. Focus on repeatedly killing the same monster type until it reaches its maximum level. You can then continue farming that type for its associated crystals.
Fera and Natura: Shared Farming Area Spirit Isle
Fera and Natura players can use the same general farming area Spirit Isle, targeting Kailin, Gravi, Rafflesia, and Water Spirits. This provides a convenient option when working on these two families. Choose the monster type that best matches the Genus wheel you want to develop.
Varian: Dredgion Crash Site
For Varian crystals, head to the Dredgion Crash Site and farm Congealed Drana and Drana Predators.
6. Best Genus Crystal Farming Locations for Elyos
Elyos players have different recommended farming areas depending on the Genus family they want to develop.

Cogni |
Eastern Tolbas Forest |
Kuru mobs |

Contaminated Sanctum |

Cogni: Eastern Tolbas Forest
If you want to focus on Cogni, visit the Eastern Tolbas Forest and hunt Kuru monsters. Keep farming the same type until its progress reaches the maximum level, then continue killing it to obtain crystals.
Other Genus Families: Contaminated Sanctum
For the remaining families, Contaminated Sanctum is a recommended farming location because it contains a large number of monsters. The high monster density makes it a practical place to farm continuously. Focus on the monster type associated with the family you need, and keep track of its progress so you can move into crystal farming once it reaches the maximum level.
7. Additional Ways to Obtain Pets and Genus Resources
Monster farming is not the only way to support your Genus progression. You can also obtain pets and related resources through weekly rewards, merchants, and daily duties.
Ascension Trial Weekly Rewards
The Ascension Trial offers a weekly reward box that can provide a large number of pets. You can claim the reward up to three times per week per character. If you have multiple characters, check the rewards available to each one to make the most of your weekly opportunities. These rewards can help you expand your pet collection and support your Genus progression.
Abyss Command Merchant
The Command Merchant in the Abyss sells items related to the system, including command scrolls.
These scrolls work similarly to duties and provide another way to obtain useful rewards. Check the merchant's stock when you are in the Abyss.
Daily Duties and Command Scrolls
Daily duties can be another source of Genus-related resources. When selecting duties, look for objectives involving crystals, keys, or energy. If the available choices do not match what you need, refresh the list and look for a more useful task. The main-town Command Merchant also sells 12 scrolls. These function similarly to the scrolls available in the Abyss, but their objectives must be completed in the main world.
Using these options alongside monster farming gives you more ways to collect resources and develop your Genus wheels.
8. Tips for Maximizing Genus Progression
To make your Genus progression more efficient, keep the following priorities in mind:
- Level up your wheels before optimizing stats. Reaching Level 10 gives you more stat rows to work with.
- Save Rainbow Crystals for the special family. Regular families have corresponding crystals that can be obtained through monster farming.
- Lock good stats as you find them. This prevents desirable stats from being rerolled when you continue analyzing a wheel.
- Choose locations with high monster density. Contaminated Sanctum is a useful option for Elyos players working on multiple families.
- Collect weekly and daily rewards. Ascension Trial rewards, merchant scrolls, and daily duties can supplement your farming.
- Manage Kina and crystals together. Repeated analyses require both resources, so make sure you have enough of each before committing to extensive rerolling.
