The best thing for new players to focus on first is quests. Main story quests and side quests will guide you across different regions and provide steady experience and gold rewards. At the same time, start taming Fellows as early as possible — the game teaches you to tame your first mount (the Brakarr Gallant) through the main questline around level 5. Taming points are limited to only 100 per day, so don't waste them. Additionally, gathering resources (ore, herbs) along the way is a good habit — gathering doesn't require a trainer, and there's little competition for resources in the beginner zone.
