Monk Boosting Strategy & Preparation

Blizzard has confirmed that monks can be boosted in the Mist of Pandaria, except for Pandaran monks, which must be leveled manually. This significantly changes pre-patch plans, allowing players to streamline their monk progression.

Originally, I planned to level three monks:

Brewmaster (Tank)

Windwalker (DPS)

Mistweaver (Healer)

With boosts available, my plan has shifted—I will boost two monks and manually level the Pandaran monk. To ensure smooth progression, I need to:

Prepare profession kits (Engineering & Scribe for the main monk, Herbalism & Mining for the gatherer monk).

Secure level 85 Bind-on-Equip gear to avoid gearing issues after boosting.

By adjusting my strategy, I can focus on optimizing my monks' setup before launch while making the leveling process more efficient.

Level 85 Boost Options

Blizzard has introduced multiple ways to obtain a level 85 boost for characters, including monks:

Purchase a standalone level 85 boost

Pre-order the upgrade edition, which includes a level 85 boost and other rewards

Kill the first boss in Scarlet Enclave on Season of Discovery

Level 85 Boosts from Season of Discovery

The recent addition of a progressive stacking buff in Season of Discovery makes boosting easier, encouraging Zerg groups to farm Balnazar kills. Every few weeks, a 5% buff to health and damage will be applied, making the fight increasingly manageable. As a result, 40-man Zerg groups will frequently form, offering players a straightforward way to secure level 85 boosts without extensive gearing.

I realized that playing Season of Discovery would be a great way to mix up my experience before the Mist of Pandaria launch.

Some players argue that farming a level 85 boost in Season of Discovery is unnecessary since you could either buy one outright or manually level a character during the pre-patch. However, I see it differently:

Season of Discovery is winding down, and I want to experience its content before it disappears.

Playing Season of Discovery keeps me engaged without burning myself out on the beta.

The investment is small—I can level a character and get boosted within a couple of days.

For those looking to power-level their characters efficiently, securing the Mists of Pandaria Classic boost is a great way to jump into endgame content without grinding for hours!

Pre-Patch Leveling & Profession Adjustments

With boosts now available, my profession strategy requires adjustments. Originally, I planned to use my Rogue for gathering and pickpocketing valuable weapons for my monks. However, for consistency, I've decided to switch my gatherer role to a monk instead.

Profession Kits for Monks

Since I will boost two monks rather than manually leveling them, I need to prepare appropriate profession kits:

Windwalker/Brewmaster Monk – Engineering & Scribe

Mistweaver Monk (Gatherer) – Herbalism & Mining

Although gathering is more efficient on druids, I prefer monks and will enjoy the experience more by sticking to my favorite class.

Leveraging Joyous Journeys XP Buff

Blizzard has reintroduced Joyous Journeys, providing a 50% XP boost. This is a fantastic opportunity to level low-level alts efficiently, particularly:

My level 74 Shaman, which I plan to take to level 80-85

My level 30 Paladin, which I hope to level up for additional professions

This XP boost encourages players to level neglected characters before the expansion drops, maximizing their profession and crafting advantages.

Level 85 Gear & Items

Since two of my monks will now be boosted, I need to acquire level 85 bind-on-equip (BOE) items and vendor gear for them. My main monk is already geared, but my secondary monks will require attention in the coming weeks before launch.

Alternative Leveling Method – Pet Battles

For my Pandaran monk, which cannot be boosted, I'm planning a unique leveling method—pet battles. Since I'm a fan of pet battling, I intend to:

Level to 15 via questing and dungeons.

At level 60, unlock flight and begin battling pet trainers across Azeroth.

Grind pet battles until level 71, at which point I'll equip Niflvar Bearded Axes and resume dungeon runs.

Endgame Preparation & Quest Stacking

Once I've secured my three monks at level 85, my next priority will be:

Maximizing secondary professions on my main monk.

Weekly old raid clears for pet farming.

Following the quest stacking guide from Rested XP to ensure a fast leveling start when Mist of Pandaria officially launches.

This multi-layered preparation will ensure efficiency when the expansion drops. With the new boosts, XP buffs, and quest stacking strategies, I'm confident heading into Mist of Pandaria.

With Mist of Pandaria Classic on the horizon, preparing ahead will give you the best start. Get ready for an epic adventure, stack up your resources, and dive into the mists fully prepared. See you in Pandaria!
