With TBC Phase 3 officially launching on August 27, players are starting to prepare their characters, gold reserves, and upgrades for the new raid phase. Gold becomes even more important as players begin replacing gems, enchanting Tier 6 gear, buying raid consumables, preparing resistance sets, and progressing through Black Temple and Mount Hyjal.
However, the best farm is not always the item with the highest Auction House price. A profitable route requires reliable spawns, efficient routes, manageable competition, and items that actually sell on your server.
This guide covers the best Phase 3 gold farming spots, repeatable farming methods, valuable materials, useful classes, and profitable professions to help you earn more gold efficiently.
Estimated Weekly Cost for a Phase 3 Raider
| Player Type | Estimated Weekly Cost | Main Expenses |
| Casual Raider | 200–300G | Basic consumables and repairs |
| Regular Raider | 350–500G | Full consumables, potions and reagents |
| Progression Raider | 600–800G+ | Heavy potion use, engineering items and repairs |
Actual costs vary by server prices, class, raid schedule, and progression speed. Major purchases such as Epic Gems, premium enchants, crafted gear, and BoE upgrades are not included.
1. Farm Primal Fire at the Hand of Gul’dan
Location: Central Shadowmoon Valley
Target: Enraged Fire Spirits and nearby elemental enemies
Main item: Mote of Fire
Primal Fire remains one of the easiest materials to sell because it is used in crafted gear, profession recipes, resistance equipment, and other high-level items.
The Hand of Gul’dan is often more practical than the Elemental Plateau because it can offer a larger spread of fire elementals and does not require you to remain on a small floating area. Fire elementals around this part of Shadowmoon Valley have long been a standard source of Motes of Fire.
Copy This Farming Route
Start near the western side of the Hand of Gul’dan.
Clear every fire elemental while moving clockwise around the volcano.
Kill earth elementals only when they block your route.
Loot all grey items, cloth, greens, and recipes.
Return to your starting point after completing the loop.
Change layer, switch locations, or farm another material if too many players are present.
Combine every 10 Motes of Fire into one Primal Fire unless individual motes sell for more than the completed Primal.
This farm works especially well for Hunters, Warlocks, Shadow Priests, and other classes that can kill continuously with limited drinking or healing downtime.
2. Farm Primal Mana at Kirin’Var Village
Location: Southeastern Netherstorm
Target: Mana creatures around Kirin’Var Village
Main items: Mote of Mana, Netherweave Cloth, and green items
Kirin’Var Village is one of the most convenient Primal Mana farms because the enemies are relatively close together and have reliable respawns. Mana Wraiths, Mage Slayers, and similar enemies in the area can drop Motes of Mana.
Recommended Route
Begin at the northern edge of Kirin’Var Village and move through Wizard Row. Clear mana creatures along the ruins, then loop through the outer buildings before returning to the starting area.
Prioritize enemies that:
Die quickly
Drop Motes of Mana
Also drop Netherweave Cloth
Do not require long pulls or dangerous elite fights
This is an excellent backup farm when Primal Fire locations are overcrowded. It also gives more secondary loot than many pure elemental farms.
3. Farm Primal Air at the Elemental Plateau
Location: Northeastern Nagrand
Requirement: Flying mount
Target: Air elementals
Main item: Mote of Air
The Elemental Plateau remains one of the clearest places to target Motes of Air. It is located west of the Throne of Elements and can only be reached with flying.
Competition is the main weakness of this farm. Do not spend an hour fighting other players for tags.
Use this rule:
Stay when you can maintain continuous kills.
Leave when you spend more time waiting than fighting.
Check nearby fire and water elementals if Primal Air is heavily contested.
Compare Primal Air prices with Primal Fire and Primal Mana before committing.
Players with strong ranged tagging abilities perform best here.
4. Farm Mana Thistle and Nightmare Vine
Phase 3 raid progression increases demand for flasks, elixirs, potions, and other consumables. This makes high-level herbs one of the safest markets for players who prefer gathering instead of combat farming.
Mana Thistle
Best areas: Terokkar Forest, Shadowmoon Valley, and high-level flying-only locations
Required Herbalism: 375
Mana Thistle is used in high-level alchemy recipes and is usually found in limited areas that often require flying. Terokkar Forest and Shadowmoon Valley are among its most useful farming zones.
Do not fly across an entire zone looking only for Mana Thistle. Combine it with other herbs.
A better route is:
Fly through the Skettis and high-elevation areas of Terokkar Forest.
Gather every useful herb on the route.
Check Mana Thistle spawn points.
Continue collecting Terocone and other valuable herbs.
Sell herbs separately unless flask crafting gives a better margin.
Nightmare Vine
Best location: Shadowmoon Valley
Required Herbalism: 365
Nightmare Vine is primarily found in Shadowmoon Valley and is useful for high-level consumable production.
Run a wide circuit around the outer zone instead of repeatedly checking only one small area. This reduces competition and gives you additional chances at Fel Lotus, which can appear as a secondary gather from Outland herbs.
5. Run a Netherstorm Mining Circuit
Best areas: Netherstorm and Shadowmoon Valley
Main materials: Adamantite Ore, Khorium Ore, Eternium Ore and gems
Mining is most effective when you avoid stopping for low-value mobs. Use an epic flying mount when possible and follow the outer terrain, mountain edges, floating islands, and cave entrances where ore nodes commonly appear.
Simple Netherstorm Route
Start at Area 52 and fly toward:
The Heap
Manaforge Coruu
Kirin’Var Village
Manaforge Ultris
The Stormspire
Back toward Area 52
Mine Adamantite and Khorium while killing only enemies that block the node. Deposit or mail your materials when your bags are nearly full.
In Phase 3 raids, Mining gains an additional benefit because Ancient Gem Veins can appear in Mount Hyjal after sections are cleared. These veins can provide Epic Gems and require 375 Mining. Epic Gems may also drop from Black Temple trash.
Raid access makes this an extra source of profit, but it should not replace your normal open-world mining route.
6. Use Daily Quests for Guaranteed Gold
Daily quests are not always the fastest theoretical gold farm, but they provide consistent income without relying on Auction House prices. For players with limited farming time, having enough WoW TBC Anniversary gold can make Phase 3 preparation more efficient.
The Netherwing quest hub becomes available in Phase 3 and offers additional quests as your reputation increases. Progress beyond Neutral requires epic flying, so players planning to use Netherwing dailies should prepare the required riding skill.
Dailies are best for:
Players with only 30–45 minutes
Characters that cannot efficiently AoE farm
Players on highly populated servers
Anyone who wants guaranteed gold instead of waiting for auctions
Complete your daily quests first, then spend the rest of your playtime on a material farm.
7. Farm Dungeons for Raw Gold and Loot
Instance farming avoids open-world competition and gives a repeatable supply of vendor items, cloth, greens, enchanting materials, and raw gold.
Your best dungeon depends on your class and gear.
Protection Paladin
Protection Paladins are strong at large AoE pulls. Choose a dungeon where you can safely group melee enemies, survive the pull, and clear without frequent resets or deaths.
Sell valuable drops and either vendor or disenchant low-value greens.
Mage
Mages can use slows, roots, and Blizzard to control large groups. The best run is not necessarily the biggest pull; it is the largest pull you can complete consistently without dying.
Hunter and Warlock
These classes perform better in smaller, safer pulls. Focus on enemies with valuable cloth, reputation items, recipes, or profession materials rather than trying to copy Paladin-sized pulls.
Always calculate the full value of a dungeon run:
Raw gold + vendor items + cloth + green items + enchanting materials
8. Sell Materials That Phase 3 Players Consume Repeatedly
Prioritize repeatable demand rather than one-time speculative items.
The strongest categories are:
Raid Consumables
Mana Thistle
Nightmare Vine
Terocone
Fel Lotus
Flask materials
Potion materials
Food ingredients
Consumables are repeatedly destroyed through use, creating ongoing demand throughout progression.
Enchanting Materials
Large Prismatic Shard
Greater Planar Essence
Arcane Dust
Every new Tier 6 item needs enchants, making enchanting materials easier to sell than many speculative crafting pieces.
Gems
Epic Gems arrive through Black Temple and Mount Hyjal, while new Jewelcrafting cuts create an early market for Jewelcrafters.
Do not assume all Rare Gems become worthless immediately. Budget players, alts, and temporary gear still create demand. Sell Rare Gems in smaller stacks and avoid holding excessive inventory if prices are steadily falling.
Resistance and Crafted-Gear Materials
Black Temple preparation can increase interest in Shadow Resistance gear, while new raid upgrades create demand for crafted pieces and profession materials. Black Temple includes encounters where resistance preparation may be relevant, including Mother Shahraz.
Only stock these items after checking your server’s active listings and daily sale volume.
Best Classes for Phase 3 Gold Farming
Choose a farm that fits your class instead of forcing your class into an inefficient route.
Protection Paladin: Best for large AoE dungeon and open-world pulls.
Mage: Strong AoE control and instance farming.
Hunter: Fast movement, ranged tagging and low downtime.
Warlock: Strong sustain and efficient solo farming.
Druid: Excellent gathering efficiency through mobility and flexible combat.
Rogue: Useful for stealth-based gathering, chest routes, and targeted dungeon runs.
Gear matters, but consistency matters more. Use a farming set with enough survivability, mana recovery, movement speed, and bag space to reduce downtime. A slightly slower route with no deaths is usually more profitable than an aggressive route that frequently fails.
Best Professions for Phase 3 Gold
Professions support your main farming route rather than replacing it.
Jewelcrafting
Jewelcrafting has strong Phase 3 potential because Epic Gems introduce new cuts and create demand from players upgrading raid gear. However, profit depends on obtaining useful designs and charging enough to cover your recipe investment.
Alchemy
Alchemy benefits from constant consumable demand. Compare the price of finished flasks, elixirs, and potions against the cost of their herbs before crafting.
Herbalism and Mining
These are the easiest professions for direct, repeatable farming. They are best for players who prefer predictable routes and immediate Auction House inventory.
Enchanting
Enchanting turns unwanted green and blue items into more liquid materials. It works particularly well with dungeon farming or frequent gear drops.
Tailoring and Leatherworking
These professions can profit from specialized crafted items, cooldown materials, resistance gear, and raid-related equipment, but they require more market knowledge than gathering professions.
Final Tips
Choose one reliable farm, track what sells on your server, and switch routes when competition or prices change. Consistent farming and smart Auction House timing will usually earn more gold than chasing a single supposedly best spot.
