Reach level 70 and speak with Mordenai in the Netherwing Fields of Shadowmoon Valley to begin the introductory Netherwing questline.
Expert Riding is enough to complete the opening chain and reach Neutral. The final quest in that chain, Ally of the Netherwing, raises your reputation from Hated to Neutral. However, you need Artisan Riding to continue the reputation campaign beyond Neutral. Since riding training is the main cost barrier, make sure you have enough TBC Anniversary gold before starting the post-Neutral grind.
After reaching Neutral, learn Artisan Riding and complete Mordenai’s follow-up quests until you gain access to Dragonmaw Base Camp and its first set of reputation quests. You can then accept The Great Netherwing Egg Hunt from Yarzill the Merc.

Turning in your first Netherwing Egg completes The Great Netherwing Egg Hunt and awards 350 base Netherwing reputation. Completing the quest then unlocks Accepting All Eggs, a repeatable quest that awards 250 base reputation for every additional egg. Unlike a daily quest, this repeatable turn-in can be completed multiple times on the same day.
Netherwing Eggs bind when picked up, so they cannot be traded, mailed to another character, or purchased from another player. Each character must collect and turn in its own eggs.
Eggs should supplement the normal Netherwing questline rather than replace it. Daily and one-time quests provide guaranteed reputation, while egg availability depends on competition and luck.
📍 Where to Find Netherwing Eggs
Netherwing Eggs can come from four main sources around Netherwing Ledge, the Netherwing Mines, and Dragonmaw Fortress.
Ground Spawns
Clickable eggs can appear around crystal formations, work areas, buildings, rocky edges, smaller floating islands, and inside the Netherwing Mines. These are the easiest eggs to recognize, but they are also the most heavily contested. A player who reaches the object first usually gets the egg, so remaining mobile is more effective than waiting at one location.
You must also leave combat before collecting a ground-spawned egg. Clear nearby enemies or move out of combat before trying to interact with it.
Enemy Drops
Enemies in the Netherwing areas have a small chance to drop an egg. Loot every mob you defeat for daily quests, especially while working inside the mines, but do not remain in one location grinding enemies only for eggs. Their low drop chance makes that strategy unreliable by itself.
Nethercite Deposits
Miners have a small chance to receive a Netherwing Egg while gathering Nethercite Deposits. This gives Mining characters an additional egg source during both mine and outdoor routes.
Netherdust Bushes
Herbalists also have a small chance to receive an egg from Netherdust Bushes. Gather every suitable bush along your normal circuit instead of making long detours solely for one node.
The most efficient approach combines all available sources: check ground spawns, complete daily objectives, loot the mobs you kill, and gather profession nodes during the same route.

Do not camp one coordinate. Use a continuous circuit through the Netherwing Mines, the outer Netherwing Ledge, and Dragonmaw Fortress.
Step 1: Start in the Netherwing Mines
Begin at Dragonmaw Base Camp and enter the Netherwing Mines.
Follow one side of the mine instead of moving randomly between rooms. Check beside crystals, around machinery, along raised edges, inside side passages, and in the deeper areas occupied by slimes and worms.
Kill enemies that block your path or count toward your daily quests, then loot every corpse. Mining characters should also gather every Nethercite Deposit that fits naturally into the route.
The mines can remain productive on crowded realms because one pass offers several types of progress:
- You may find a clickable egg on the ground.
- A defeated mob may drop an egg.
- For Miners, a Nethercite Deposit may contain an egg.
- Your kills and gathered materials may advance daily quests.
When another farmer is directly ahead of you, reverse direction or take a different branch. Following someone through an already-cleared tunnel wastes more time than changing your path.
Step 2: Sweep the Outer Netherwing Ledge
After leaving the mine, make a wide loop around Netherwing Ledge.
Fly in one direction and scan the bases of large crystals, rock shelves, work sites, buildings, and the smaller pieces of land surrounding the main ledge. Keep your camera low enough to inspect the ground while moving.
A known spawn location only shows where an egg may appear. It does not mean an egg is currently available, so avoid stopping at every empty location.
Miners and Herbalists should gather Nethercite Deposits or Netherdust Bushes along the loop. Other characters should focus on visible ground spawns and quest mobs rather than killing every enemy in the area.
Step 3: Finish at Dragonmaw Fortress
Fly from the ledge to Dragonmaw Fortress and check its accessible courtyards, ramps, structures, walls, and nearby crystal formations.
Complete any fortress objectives you still need and loot the enemies you defeat. Eggs can appear at the fortress as ground objects or mob drops, but the area is usually better as part of a full circuit than as a place to camp.
After completing the fortress sweep, return to Dragonmaw Base Camp. Turn in your eggs if they can help you reach a new reputation rank. If competition remains high after one full circuit, return to your daily quests or try the route again during a quieter period.
Adjust the Route to Competition
During busy hours, begin in the mines and change direction whenever another player remains ahead of you. During quieter periods, complete the full mine–ledge–fortress circuit.
If one area is heavily camped, leave immediately and check another. The goal is to keep every minute productive through quests, kills, gathering, or ground checks instead of waiting for one egg to appear.

The Base Reputation column shows the standard values. Human characters gain 10% additional reputation through Diplomacy, increasing the first turn-in from 350 to 385 reputation and each repeatable turn-in from 250 to 275.
The first egg is different. When you have not completed The Great Netherwing Egg Hunt, use:
First-time total for N eggs = 350 + (N − 1) × 250
For Human characters, use 385 + (N − 1) × 275
For example, 35 repeatable eggs provide 8,750 base reputation, or 9,625 for a Human. If those 35 eggs include the first quest egg, the totals are 8,850 and 9,735 respectively.
To calculate how many repeatable eggs you need for the next rank, divide your missing reputation by 250, or by 275 for a Human, and round up:
Non-Human characters:
Eggs needed = Missing reputation ÷ 250, rounded up
Human characters:
Eggs needed = Missing reputation ÷ 275, rounded up
For example, a non-Human character who is 1,100 reputation short needs five eggs, because four eggs provide only 1,000 reputation. A Human needs only four eggs, since four repeatable turn-ins provide exactly 1,100 reputation.

In one older TBC Classic video test, a player collected 35 Netherwing Eggs over 10 hours. That averages 3.5 eggs per hour, equal to 875 base reputation per hour through repeatable turn-ins. Treat this only as a historical case study, not a guaranteed Anniversary farming rate. Current results depend heavily on competition, route familiarity, gathering professions, and layer population.

Friendly, Honored, and Revered unlock additional quests, while Exalted unlocks the final quest chain that rewards your choice of one Netherwing Drake. Eggs are therefore most valuable when they help you cross one of these reputation thresholds.
Before leaving Dragonmaw Base Camp, check how much reputation remains before your next rank. If only a few eggs are required, use the farming circuit to close the gap.
