Kith’ix is a new encounter arriving in WoW Patch 12.1.5, featuring two phases with different mechanics on Normal and Heroic difficulty. The fight requires coordinated add control, careful positioning, timely defensive cooldowns, and efficient damage dealing. This guide, shared by Tactyks on his YouTube channel, covers the key abilities in both phases, explains the differences between Normal and Heroic, and provides practical strategies to help your raid defeat Kith’ix and obtain the new Cantrip gear.

Preparing for challenging raid encounters like Kith’ix involves more than learning boss mechanics. If you need extra Gold to help cover your in-game expenses and prepare for upcoming content, MmoGah offers WoW Gold to help you manage your gold needs while focusing on raid progression.

WoW 12.1.5 Kith’ix Normal & Heroic Boss Guide: All Mechanics and Strategies

Phase 1: Manage Adds and Survive the Mechanics

Phase 1 repeats until Kith’ix reaches 25% health. During this phase, the raid must handle three types of adds while dealing with the boss's damage abilities. On Heroic, additional mechanics make add management and positioning even more important.

1. Void Swarm: Control the Three Types of Adds

Each ability rotation begins with Void Swarm, which deals periodic damage to the raid and summons three types of adds. All adds must be moved away from Kith’ix because his Commanding Presence aura reduces the damage taken by nearby mobs by 75% within 25 yards.

Venomous Hulk

The Venomous Hulk should be picked up by the tank who is not currently tanking Kith’ix. Its main ability is Venom Roar, a frontal attack that deals heavy damage to the current tank and causes significant knockback. Recommended strategies include:

  • Face Venom Roar away from the raid.
  • Use knockback prevention or mobility abilities to handle the knockback when possible.
  • If necessary, use external abilities such as Life Grip or Rescue after the knockback.
  • Position the Hulk near the Voidweavers to maximize cleave damage.

On Heroic, the Hulk also gains Incubation. When it dies, it drops four Mindstinger Eggs. These eggs must be destroyed quickly before they hatch into dangerous Mindstingers.

Voidweavers

Voidweavers spawn in pairs and should be the primary DPS target during the add phase. Their Nightfall ability deals area damage that becomes increasingly dangerous the longer the Voidweavers remain alive. They can also apply Voidweave to random players, dealing additional damage. Recommended strategies include:

  • Focus damage on the Voidweavers to eliminate their escalating raid damage.
  • Watch your health if you are targeted by Voidweave, especially when it overlaps with other abilities.
  • Use defensive cooldowns when necessary.
  • Have the tank handling the Hulk drag it over one Voidweaver, then move it toward the second Voidweaver after the first dies to maximize cleave.

Voidweavers are stationary, so the tank's positioning is important for efficient damage. On Heroic, Voidweavers also gain Incubation, dropping two Mindstinger Eggs each when they die. These eggs should be cleaved down immediately. Mindstingers that hatch apply a damage-over-time effect to random targets and repeatedly cast a five-second stun. Kith’ix's 75% damage reduction aura does not affect the eggs, so the Hulk can be positioned over them to help destroy them, provided no other dangerous adds remain.

Bomber Beetles

Bomber Beetles spawn in groups of three and fixate random players for 30 seconds or until they contact a player. Contact causes them to explode through Gut Reaction, applying a stacking damage-over-time effect lasting four seconds to the raid. These adds can be crowd-controlled, making it possible to handle them one at a time rather than allowing multiple explosions to overlap.

Recommended strategy:

  • Use crowd control to keep the beetles under control.
  • Death Knight grips are particularly useful because gripping a beetle to a player can trigger its explosion.
  • If the raid does not have a Death Knight, assign a player to step on the beetles one at a time.

The goal is to prevent multiple explosions from creating excessive raid damage.

2. Extinguish: Use the Light Orbs

Extinguish deals a massive amount of Shadow damage when its cast completes. During this ability, the allied NPC throws out several Light's Embrace orbs near an enemy. Players who run over an orb receive 90% reduced Shadow damage taken for eight seconds, allowing them to survive Extinguish without needing an additional defensive cooldown.

Recommended strategy:

  • Pick up an orb before Extinguish resolves.
  • If you cannot reach an orb, use a defensive cooldown instead.
  • Be aware of your positioning so that you can collect an orb without unnecessarily disrupting the raid.

This mechanic applies on both Normal and Heroic difficulty.

3. Unspeakable Horrors: Spread Before Dispel

Several players are targeted by Unspeakable Horrors, which applies a magical fear after a delay of approximately six seconds. When the effect expires or is dispelled, it deals area damage that decreases with distance.

Recommended strategy:

  • Targeted players move away from the raid.
  • Healers dispel the fear after the affected players have moved out.
  • Avoid dispelling multiple targets simultaneously unless the raid is at full health.
  • A useful approach is to dispel one target first, allow healers to restore the raid after the resulting damage, and then dispel the next target. This reduces the risk of overlapping damage overwhelming the group.

4. Twisted Appendages: Dodge the Frontal Attacks

Throughout the encounter, Kith’ix summons Twisted Appendages that aim a short frontal attack toward a random player. Everyone should watch for these attacks and move out of their path. Staying alert is particularly important when dodging them overlaps with other mechanics.

5. Dark Devastation: Tank Swap and Positioning

Dark Devastation is the primary source of tank damage during Phase 1. It deals mixed Shadow and Physical damage in a 15-yard area around the tank and increases the target's damage taken from both types by 150% for 25 seconds.

Recommended strategy:

  • Move the affected tank away from the raid to prevent cleaving other players.
  • Swap tanks after each hit when possible.
  • Coordinate the swap with the Venomous Hulk's position and the other active mechanics.

On Heroic, Dark Devastation also creates a Void Scar beneath the tank. These puddles initially serve as area denial, but they become especially important during Suffocating Darkness.

6. Suffocating Darkness: Stay Inside the Protective Barrier

When Kith’ix reaches 100 energy, he casts Suffocating Darkness. This fills most of the arena with darkness, dealing heavy damage to players caught inside and enraging any remaining adds. Defeating the adds before this ability begins is essential. The allied NPC creates a protective barrier in the center of the arena. Players inside take only light damage from the darkness, but the available space becomes more limited. During this mechanic, the raid must continue handling the usual Phase 1 abilities, including Extinguish, Unspeakable Horrors, Twisted Appendages, and Dark Devastation.

Shortly after Suffocating Darkness begins, players are also targeted by Abyssal Grasp, which attempts to pull them into the darkness while applying a healing absorb. Healers must remove these absorbs quickly. If an absorb remains for eight seconds, the affected player is thrown into the darkness.

Heroic: Soak the Eclipse Fragments

On Heroic, the Void Scars created by Dark Devastation gain an additional function during Suffocating Darkness. Approximately every eight seconds, the scars fire Eclipse Fragments toward the protective barrier, with five total spawns. If a fragment reaches the allied NPC, it reduces the size of the barrier, leaving the raid with less room to maneuver. Players must intercept the fragments before they reach the barrier. Soaking a fragment applies a stacking damage-over-time effect lasting six seconds to the soaker and anyone within three yards. There are two main ways to handle this mechanic.

Strategy A: Cluster the Void Scars

Have tanks place two to four Void Scars close together so that the fragments spawn near one another. A tank can then move across the area and soak multiple fragments. The tank without the Dark Devastation damage-taken debuff is generally the better choice because the soaking damage is Shadow damage, which is amplified by that debuff.

Strategy B: Assign Individual Soakers

If Phase 1 lasts longer, additional Void Scars accumulate. Three are created per Phase 1 rotation, so the number can eventually become too high for the tanks to handle alone. In this situation, spread the scars around the room and assign one player to soak each fragment individually.

Choose the approach that best fits the number of active Void Scars and the raid's ability to handle the incoming damage. Once the allied NPC reaches full energy, Suffocating Darkness ends and the encounter returns to the Void Swarm rotation.

Exhaustion Makes Repeated Rotations More Dangerous

Each time the allied NPC completes a Suffocating Darkness cycle, she gains a stack of Exhausted. Each stack weakens her Light's Embrace orbs, reduces the size of her protective barrier, and increases the damage of future Suffocating Darkness casts by 10%. This means that the longer the raid spends in Phase 1, the more difficult subsequent rotations become. Efficient add kills and consistent boss damage are essential.

Phase 2: Defeat Kith’ix Before the Timer Expires

Phase 2 begins when Kith’ix reaches 25% health. Any remaining adds are immediately destroyed, so the raid does not need to coordinate a special add-clearing push. This phase is primarily a damage race. Bloodlust is generally recommended here, although using it in Phase 1 may be a reasonable alternative if it helps the group skip a particularly dangerous part of the earlier phase and the Phase 2 damage check is manageable without it.

1. Eightfold Eclipse: Beat the Final Damage Check

At the start of Phase 2, the raid is stunned briefly during the transition. Kith’ix then begins casting Eightfold Eclipse, the phase's primary source of damage and its timer. Each orb spawn deals damage. When the eighth spawn occurs, the raid dies immediately, leaving approximately one minute to deal the remaining 25% of Kith’ix's health. The allied NPC helps the raid one final time by granting Luminous Grace, which increases damage and healing by 50%.

2. Null Gate: Manage Targeted Players and Projectile Patterns

The main new mechanic in Phase 2 is Null Gate. One random ranged player, one healer, and one melee player are targeted. After a short delay, each target takes damage in a five-yard area and leaves a Null Gate at their location. Players hit by the mechanic also receive a stack of Nullify. Nullify deals increasing damage over time as stacks accumulate and eventually kills the affected player. The lethal threshold is six stacks on Normal and five on Heroic, making it important to avoid unnecessary hits. Null Gates continue firing Null Shard orbs for the rest of the phase. These projectiles can also apply Nullify stacks, so players must pay close attention to their trajectories. There are two main strategies for positioning Null Gates.

Strategy A: Rotate Around the Room

The entire raid moves around the room while targeted players drop their Null Gates behind the group.

Advantages:

  • Most projectiles come from the same direction, making their trajectories easier to track.
  • The raid can create distance from the gates it has already placed.

Disadvantages:

  • The strategy requires frequent raid-wide movement.
  • Targeted players face more demanding positioning.

Strategy B: Assign Fixed Drop-Off Positions

Keep Kith’ix stationary and assign drop-off locations according to the role of the targeted player:

  • Melee: Drop the Null Gate near the boss.
  • Healers: Drop it one quadrant counterclockwise from the boss.
  • Ranged: Drop it one quadrant clockwise from the boss.

This approach causes projectiles to come from multiple directions, so players must remain alert and dodge carefully. However, players who are not targeted can largely remain in position and focus on dealing damage.

The fixed-position strategy is generally the preferred option if your group can handle the projectile patterns. It reduces unnecessary movement and helps maintain damage uptime. If it proves too difficult, use the rotation strategy instead.

3. Negation: Tanks Must Clear Null Gates

In Phase 2, tanks must handle Negation, which increases their Physical damage taken by 100%. Tanks should swap promptly to avoid taking empowered melee attacks. Negation also increases the affected tank's movement speed by 100% and makes them immune to Null Shards. However, the tank dies immediately after eight seconds unless they run into a Null Gate. Entering a gate triggers Explosive Restabilization, which deals heavy damage to the tank and destroys Null Gates and Null Shards within ten yards.

Recommended strategy:

  • Swap tanks promptly when Negation is applied.
  • Activate a defensive cooldown before entering a Null Gate.
  • Use the explosion to remove a nearby gate that is restricting the raid's movement.
  • Avoid hitting nearby melee DPS with the explosion.

The ten-yard clearing radius is smaller than it may appear, so do not rely on a single explosion to remove several gates. Focus on clearing a nearby threat, such as a gate positioned near the melee group.
