S Tier Ranged DPS Specs
Arcane Mage
Arcane Mage received some of the biggest improvements in the latest Patch 12.1 PTR tuning pass, especially for single-target damage.

- Arcane Blast damage increased by 20%.
- Spellslinger’s Splintering Orbs bonus damage to Arcane Orb increased to 50%.
- Refractive Images now provides 10% stagger, increasing to 30% during Mirror Image.
Previously, Arcane Mage was already one of the strongest AoE damage specs, but its priority-target damage was not as competitive. These buffs completely solve that weakness, giving Arcane incredible burst damage against bosses and dangerous priority targets.
Combined with exceptional survivability from Refractive Images and Mirror Image, Arcane Mage is currently one of the safest and strongest ranged DPS choices. Massive burst, excellent utility, and powerful single-target pressure place Arcane firmly at the top of the S Tier.
Elemental Shaman
Elemental Shaman received a small adjustment to reduce its cleave power but continues to perform at an extremely high level.
Key Changes:
- Farseer Ancestors Lava Burst and Chain Lightning damage reduced by 20%.
- Maintains previous baseline buffs.
- Benefits greatly from the powerful new tier set.
The new tier set provides free Earth Shocks and Earthquakes, significantly improving sustained damage. Shaman utility remains one of the biggest advantages of the spec. Their ability to provide valuable support, including Curse dispels, will be especially useful in dungeons such as Den of Nalorakk and Murder Row. With strong damage, powerful utility, and reliable performance, Elemental Shaman remains an S Tier ranged DPS spec.
Devourer Demon Hunter
Devourer Demon Hunter continues to be a dominant force despite receiving some targeted nerfs.

- Eradicate secondary-target damage reduced by 15%.
- Annihilator Final Hour buff duration reduced to 6 seconds.
These changes were aimed at reducing their low-target cleave strength, but the spec remains extremely powerful. The Annihilator build still provides excellent overall damage thanks to Chaos Brand, strong defensive tools, two charges of Blur, and Void Metamorphosis leech.
Devourer combines strong damage, exceptional survivability, and valuable raid utility. In Mythic+, their ability to survive dangerous situations while maintaining high damage makes them one of the strongest ranged DPS options. Devourer Demon Hunter remains an S Tier spec.
A Tier Ranged DPS Specs
Devastation Evoker
Devastation Evoker had one of the biggest improvements in the Patch 12.1 PTR update.
Key Changes:
- Disintegrate damage increased by 40%.
- Living Flame damage increased by 50%.
- Deep Breath damage increased by 30%.
- Pyre damage increased by 10%.
The Evoker tier set had an unintended interaction with Scintillation, which Blizzard nerfed. However, Blizzard compensated by massively increasing the damage of the baseline abilities. As a result, Devastation’s damage outside of Dragonrage is no longer a major weakness. Their consistent damage profile has improved dramatically, turning them from a struggling spec into a serious high-tier competitor. Devastation Evoker is now an A Tier ranged DPS choice.
Demonology Warlock
Demonology Warlock received significant single-target buffs that greatly increased its damage potential.
Key Changes:
- Shadow Bolt damage increased by 45%.
- Demonbolt damage increased by 55%.
- Summon Gloomhound damage increased by 35%.
These changes address the damage ceiling created by previous Diabolist nerfs. Demonology’s consistent ramping gameplay and extended Demon Cycle now provide much stronger boss damage. Affliction Warlock
Affliction Warlock continues to perform well thanks to powerful priority damage and strong survivability.
Key Changes: Haunt damage amplification increased to 16% for 18 seconds.
Combined with previous priority damage improvements from Impetuous Wrath and the healing benefits from Hedonic Gorging, Affliction has excellent sustain and survivability. The spec excels at melting important targets while its damage-over-time effects continue spreading pressure across entire groups. With strong defensive tools and reliable damage, Affliction Warlock remains a solid A Tier ranged DPS spec.
Augmentation Evoker
Augmentation Evoker avoided major nerfs in the latest tuning pass and remains a valuable support DPS option.
Key Strengths:
- Keeps the 3% overall damage buff.
- Retains Wingleader cooldown reduction improvements from previous changes.
- Provides powerful group amplification through Ebon Might and Prescience.
Although Augmentation may slightly trail behind Arcane Mage for the Bloodlust role, its ability to increase overall group performance remains extremely valuable. With excellent utility and strong group contribution, Augmentation Evoker remains an A Tier spec.
B Tier Ranged DPS Specs
Marksmanship Hunter
Marksmanship Hunter had a difficult time in the latest PTR update after previously showing incredible potential.

- Lost the previous 5% damage aura buff.
- Explosive Shot damage reduced by 33%.
- Bug fixes reduced previous performance advantages.
The guaranteed Lock and Load procs from Incendiary Ammunition still feel strong, but the spec lost the explosive burst damage that allowed it to instantly destroy dangerous packs. The heavy tuning adjustments significantly reduced Marksmanship’s dominance. It remains playable, but its previous top-tier status has disappeared. Marksmanship Hunter drops to B Tier.
Shadow Priest
Shadow Priest received major nerfs to its burst and cleave potential.

C Tier Ranged DPS Specs
Balance Druid
Balance Druid suffered one of the largest nerfs in the Patch 12.1 PTR update.

- Starsurge
- Starfall
- Meteorites
Balance previously dominated AoE damage and offered excellent utility, but these sweeping nerfs significantly reduce its overall output. Although Mark of the Wild, Battle Resurrection, and poison dispels remain valuable, the damage loss makes the spec difficult to justify compared with stronger alternatives. Balance Druid drops to C Tier.
Frost Mage
Frost Mage received heavy cleave and tier set nerfs.

Arms Warrior
Arms Warrior remains the strongest melee DPS spec heading into Season 2, even after targeted nerfs.

With consistent burst damage and unmatched durability, Frost Death Knight remains a top-tier melee option in S Tier.
A Tier Melee DPS Specs
Outlaw Rogue
Outlaw Rogue has become one of the strongest and smoothest melee specs after multiple buffs.
Key Changes:
- Additional 6% flat damage increase.
- Improved gameplay flow from Killing Spree redesign.
- Adrenaline Rush now speeds up Killing Spree execution by 20%.
The spec now feels fluid and responsive, with high APM burst windows that are both rewarding and effective. Combined with strong aura buffs, Outlaw is emerging as a “sleeper pick” that slightly outperforms many other melee specs. Outlaw Rogue is firmly placed in A Tier.
Devourer Demon Hunter
