SWTOR: Roadmap Timing Update and Game Update 5.2.2

By Helen Keller2017-05-10

Yesterday SWTOR Producer Keith explained why it took longer to provide an update on his first Producer Roadmap and introduced an update on Game Update 5.2.2 coming Mid June at the same time. Mmogah will show you the detailed contents:

“Hey everyone,

Wanted to provide an update on my first Producer Roadmap, but getting it published is taking longer than I anticipated. Partly my own fault, as my Dad came to visit and I took a few days off over the past couple of weeks to spend time with him. This ultimately slowed my progress but I am back in full swing now and pushing to get the roadmap completed.

I honestly thought I would have had the roadmap done and communicated already, but, I realistically need more time to finalize it. Translated: That means end of this month, but with full intention of delivering it sooner. This is not something I wanted to tell you, but I promised to keep you up-to-date on what’s happening.

While you continue to wait, here’s a few highlights of Game Update 5.2.2 scheduled for mid-June (yes, in 2017):

a. The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife event returns with old and some awesome new rewards

b. New Character Perks to increase your speeder piloting speed to 120% and 130%

c. Companions will gain influence through standard crew skill missions

d. Full Tier 1 gear available from existing Fleet vendors using Command Tokens – this means you can obtain a full bonus gear set for under 800 Command Tokens. You will be able to choose the type of gear you want to purchase (DPS, Tank, or Healer).

f. We made a variety of changes to Galactic Starfighter – primarily aimed at reducing the cost, increasing requisition rewards, and offering all players a Gunship and Bomber as standard ships (available in your hangar).

I will continue to pass on roadmap updates as I have them. We do have an exciting year ahead of us and I look forward to sharing it you.

---Keith”

Here are some hot discussions about this:

“I’ve been playing since launch, and this is the most open and communicative I’ve seen a producer from Bioware Austin to date. I’m not saying this is the answer to all the games problems, but I think giving credit for positive steps matters. And Keith’s forthrightness and willingness to communicate with us is a huge step in the right direction, even if it is only a first one and the proof is truly in the pudding.

But, as I said, credit for right steps is important, too. If they start doing something right (i.e. communicating, even if it’s just ‘This thing is delayed because x. Apologies and here’s when we should expect it going forward’), but we as players are still guarded and wary and pissed and don’t give them an indication that this is a far better way to handle things and interact with us, there’s no reason to believe they’ll change. But if we show them that we appreciate the change and the effort, it’ll go a long way to making sure things stay this way.

While I’m not going to sit here and say that the game’s perfect or that everything’s coming up roses, I will say Keith’s forthrightness coupled with the fact that he’s a known regular player do give me hope that he can and will fix the issues that are plaguing the game. I will also say that I do completely understand people who are wary. I just prefer to be optimistic.”-writen by galleywinter

“I for one am glad to see he’s making an effort. A lot of people would take what they were given and just keep rolling with it. But Keith is actively trying to take the steaming shit train he was handed, take it 180 and push it back up the hill. He’s got a lot to contend with in terms of the giant pile of Hutt shit Irving left him with. Along with all the angry openly QQing players that refuse to be happy no matter what steps in the right direction are taken. Here’s hoping he can latch onto to what good support people can give him and keep pushing things back to where they need to be. Even if it takes time.”-Lennik

“Love the reduced barriers to entry for new GSF players that’re coming, plus that the companion influence grind will be able to be managed through crafting skills rather than splurging on gifts.”-ApostleCorp
