ESO's Homestead Guide: Furnishing Crafting & Master Writs

By Delia Woolf2017-02-16

If you own a home in Tamriel as an ESO player, you'll need to furnish your newfound space with furniture. One way to get the furniture you so desire is to craft it yourself! Read on to learn the basics of Furnishing Crafting, a new system available in our latest update, Homestead.

What is Furnishing Crafting?

Furnishing Crafting allows you to craft furniture to place in your home, or to sell to other players for a profit. Furnishing Crafting is an extension of the six primary tradeskills: Blacksmithing, Clothier, Woodworking, Enchanting, Alchemy, and Provisioning.

Who can participate in Furnishing Crafting?

Anyone! You don't actually need to own a home to craft furnishings and some furnishings can be made with the most fundamental skills so it's easy to get started.

Where do I go to craft some furnishings?

You can craft furnishings at any crafting station. When used, you'll find a new tab for Furnishing plans related to that station's tradeskill.

Where do I get Furnishing Crafting plans?

Much as with conventional food recipes, furnishing plans can be found stashed in buildings, backpacks, or within pockets of NPCs throughout the world. Occasionally, you can even find some in ruins or dungeons. If you're stealing furnishing plans, though, try not to get caught!

What are the names for plans within each tradeskill?

   •Blacksmithing: Diagrams

   •Woodworking: Blueprints

   •Clothier: Patterns

   •Provisioning: Designs

   •Enchanting: Praxes

   •Alchemy: Formulae

What materials does each tradeskill use for Furnishing Crafting?

In addition to various conventional materials, like style materials such as Adamantite, Manganese, or Nickel, and tiering materials, such as Dreugh Wax or Dwarven Oil, furnishers use new materials that have no level associated with them.

   •Blacksmithing: Regulus

   •Woodworking: Heartwood

   •Clothier: Bast and Clean Pelts

   •Provisioning: Decorative Wax

   •Enchanting: Mundane Runes

   •Alchemy: Alchemical Resin

Why would I want to do Furnishing Crafting? What kinds of things can I create?

If you have a home, Furnishing Crafting is a great way to acquire new decorations to place in your home. If you don't own a home, though, you can sell those furnishings to other players. And if you're still making your way to the peak of your crafting skill, furnishings are another way to gain more Inspiration toward that journey.

You can make all kinds of things! Tables, chairs, lanterns, treasure chests, coffins, thrones, and more are all possible.

Are there any really cool, unique items that are only available via Furnishing Crafting?

Yes! As an example, you can craft enchanted humanoid Target Skeletons to practice your combat abilities and check your damage potential. There are two varieties you can craft with one hardier than the other (these look different than the Argonian and Khajiit versions found in the Housing Editor purchase tab). There are also lots of other decorative items exclusive to Furnishing Crafting, too.

What can I do with the things I create with Furnishing Crafting?

In most cases, you can place them in your home or trade them with other players. In some cases, they do something a bit special. For example, the skeleton mentioned above is a furnishing you can craft and then fight.

Will we be adding to Furnishing Crafting in future updates?

Absolutely. We are always striving to add new and interesting things for you to create for your homes. New zones or dungeons will typically introduce new plans, themed for the zone or content.

You're a crafter that's created everything that can be made. What's there to do now beyond making items for your guildmates and friends? Master Writs are for you, and you can learn more about these exclusive contracts in our latest Homestead guide!

What are Master Writs?

Master Writs are mysterious, exclusive contracts for high-quality and very specific equipment, or very specific alchemical substances, enchantments, or provisions.

Where do I get Master Writs from?

Master Writs can occasionally be found in the rewards from finishing a maximum tier, regular crafting Writ.

Who can do Master Writs?

Not just anyone! Master Writs are meant specifically for masters – they require specific sets, or specific crafting styles, that not everyone has access to. Further, Master Writs are only awarded to players completing the hardest normal crafting Writs, and are more common when you have a lot of dedication. For example, Blacksmithing, Woodworking, and Clothier Master Writs are more common if you've done a lot of difficult research; Provisioning Master Writs are more common when you've learned a lot of difficult recipes; Enchanting Master Writs are more common when you've translated a lot of runes; and Alchemy Master Writs are more common when you've fully identified a lot of herbs. The more you've done in that tradeskill, the better your odds on each normal Writ you complete.

How do I complete Master Writs?

Pay close attention to the requested items. You'll need to make the item yourself, on the character that has the Master Writ quest. Requested items cannot be traded between characters to satisfy these, and the items cannot be bound.

How many can I do per day?

As many as you have the invitations for. There is no daily limit or cooldown on Master Writs.

Additionally, you can trade Master Writs around to people who are more likely or able to complete them. You could even get them on your alts and trade them back to your 'main crafter' if you have one, or host a festival with friends to trade Master Writs all day.

What are Master Writ Vouchers? What can I buy with them?

Writ Vouchers are a type of currency that Rolis Hlaalu, the Mastercraft Mediator that arrives after you've started the journey of Master Writs, pays master crafters in for their work. Rolis is a very rare merchant, and sells a very specific and select roster of goods. He accepts Writ Vouchers in exchange for his goods such as the Ebony crafting motif, Target Skeletons for practicing combat skills, epic and legendary furnishing plans, or the recipe for high-quality bonus experience drinks.

Can Master Writ Vouchers themselves be traded/sold?

No. Writ Vouchers are personal, for you and you alone to spend.

Can the items I get from turning in Master Writs be traded/sold?

Yes, they can. If you no longer need or want anything from Rolis Hlaalu's store, you can use your own vouchers to buy things for others, or to resell on the Guild Trader network for profit.

What can I do with the items I get for completing Master Writs?

You can sell them if you want, or use them yourself. You could outfit all of your characters in the very stylish Ebony motif. You could fill all of your homes with crafting stations attuned to every craftable item set in Tamriel, just to be able to craft anything at home. You could build a wall of Target Skeletons right inside the door to your home. You could make improved experience drinks – Aetherial Ambrosia – for yourself and your friends and guild. Or you could sell that Ambrosia for fun and profit.

Will you be adding to the Master Writ system in future updates?

As we add new motifs, traits, and crafted sets, we do plan to eventually add them to the Master Writ rotation of requested goods. And, as we add new features, tools and décor to the player housing system, you can expect Rolis Hlaalu's inventory to grow and change.

Please enjoy the Master Writ system! We've worked hard to introduce challenges for the crafter who has everything, and introduce substantial rewards to match these challenges. If you've never considered crafting before, now is a great time to start!
