ESO Latest Community Spotlight for Halloween – Boris' Haunted Mansion

By John Ryan2017-10-30

Get into the spirit of the spooky season by checking out Boris' haunted mansion, furnished in The Elder Scrolls Online with the housing editor. In this latest Community Spotlight, we talk to Boris about his creepy creation – completed just in time for the Witches Festival and Halloween.

To get ready for the latest Community Spotlight, maybe you want to buy some Elder Scrolls Online Gold beforehand. In that case, I recommend you a safe and efficient ESO Gold seller, MmoGah.com. MmoGah is ranked No. 1 during searching “ESO Gold” or “buy ESO Gold” in Google. Why not just have a try?

What inspired you to build a haunted mansion in ESO?

I was talking with my guildmates about what we can do with the torture-themed items from the luxury vendor, and someone suggested I build a torture room. I'm also a big fan of old horror movies and games, so that in turn inspired me to transform the whole place into a haunted mansion.

Why did you decide to build it with the Velothi Reverie home, and how did you go about planning to build a haunted mansion of this size?

The main reason for using the Velothi Reverie was the unique fireplace – a simple green item you can't find anywhere else that I actually wanted for a completely different project. In addition to this, the fact that you can place up to 400 items in the Velothi Reverie with ESO Plus helps!

In the beginning, there was just a torture room in the basement, but eventually I started playing around with the blood fountain, and from then on the mansion got creepier every day. As I was decorating, I found that I had a lot of fun just experimenting and testing out different items in order to get the space to look scary, especially in the courtyard.

To be a strong hero in the game, you do not only need to have the most powerful skills but also need to equip your class with the excellent items, such as armor and weapons. To save your time and have more fun in the game, maybe you also need to buy some Elder Scrolls Online Items in advance to enjoy the game more in the future. Do you still spend much time and energy on good armor and weapons? Why not just choose an easy way to get more fun from the game and a better life?

Did you have all the necessary furnishings from the start, or did you need to acquire new ones as you went?

Oh, no! It took me a while to get all the furnishings I needed. I browsed many Guild Stores and completed many master writs to get what I needed. I also made sure to visit the Coldharbour luxury vendor every weekend.

How long did it take to completely furnish the mansion?

It took me about a month to complete, as I only had a few hours a day to decorate.

Did you have friends or guildmates “test" the mansion out? What did they think?

Haha of course. J The feedback I received varied from “cool" to “scary" (mostly scary), but the funniest feedback I received from a fellow guild member was simply "What's wrong with you?!"

When you step out into the courtyard, it's as if you've entered a completely alien world. What was the inspiration for such a bizarre environment, and how did you go about creating the fleshy walls?

I played many horror games over the last few years, but the last one was DOOM and that was the biggest inspiration for the courtyard.

For the walls, I used the giant mushrooms you can buy on Vvardenfell. The idea came to me while I was joking around with a mushroom. A guildmate was running around in the courtyard, so I moved the mushroom and placed it directly in front of us. I then noticed its flesh-like texture and was inspired to use it.

I also used the glass crystals that you can buy on Vvardenfell to add the “slime “to the ground. Like the giant mushrooms, I bought them to create a completely different thing (a room made of crystals) but when using the editor, I discovered that the underside of them looked like slime. What better fit for a room made of meat?

Do you have any plans for additional “themed" homes in the future?

Oh, yes I have! I plan to do some lore- and holiday-themed homes, and I hope that Sicilliana and SCOTTISH BOOM will continue to release my player housing videos on their YouTube channel.

Do you have any advice for others who are looking to create their own haunted house for the Witches Festival?

ESO Plus membership helps a lot (even if the extra space is often not enough). Don't miss the Witches Festival event items as they'll also help to you achieve that creepy style.

In the home itself, set candles, torches, and fireplaces at night, and don't forget to visit the furnishing vendors in all zones. Some of them got a nice inventory update with one of the most-recent patches.

I have to say that because it can be expensive to buy all the houses and furnishing items, I need to give a big “thank you" to all the people who bought me stuff from the Guild Store. Thank you!

We love seeing the community come up with creative uses for the housing editor, and Boris' haunted mansion is certainly one of the spookiest we've ever found. Thank you for sharing your story with us, Boris!
